PES instead of FIFA for Christmas

I've been playing Fifa since forever, but FIFA 11 is simply horrible.

I've been thinking about getting Pes 2011 instead of Fifa 11 for Christmas.

However, I do have some concerns. I was told on a Fifa forum that I wouldn't get all the teams in PES.

Is this true?

Another concern I had is how different are the controls?

Will it be hard to adapt to PES?

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

What they mean is that you'll get some unlicensed teams in PES. One example will be Arsenal, which is called North London in PES because Konami has not acquired the license for the team. You'll also get unlicensed player names as well because of that. This phenomenon mainly affects the Premier League teams and some national teams as well.

The remedy, however, is simple. Just go download an option file (which contains the correct club kits, player names...etc) and overwrite existing game data. Which option file to get can be tricky and depends on your personal preference as well as what console you are playing the game on.

Personally, I recommend a PC version and using the PESedit patch, although some people have complained that PESedit has fiddled a bit with player stats, making the game too easy. Also, with the PC version, you can install more than just option files. One prime example is the recently released voice commentary port from FIFA World Cup 2010 to PES 2011, which replaces the crappy and repetitive PES commentary with the excellent one from FIFA.

Some places to get your option files:

PC (PES 2011), PESedit:
www.pesedit.com

PS3 (PES 2011),WENB:

(Take care, you need to install the right patch for the right region)

PS3 (WE 2011), Greyfox:

XBox 360 (PES 2011), Dragonskin:

Of course, there are others, and it's really up to your personal preference which one you get.

Another concern I had is how different are the controls?

I had a hard time adapting to the new passing system in PES 2011 (which is the main thing to get used to), even though I played the heck out of PES 2010. I assume FIFA players will find it even harder. Most players 'click' after around 20 games or so though, and I don't think it'll be any different for you.

Anyway, have fun :D

So is there any way to get a better commentary for the 360 version?

I don't want to play PC games...**** that.

And do the option files give you all the teams that Fifa has?

Do you know what the main concerns with PES 2011 are?

LOL's response is accurate and fair.

PES has been famous for its unique editing feature. You can actually add teams if you like but most option files already does that.

If you are looking to play PES, then you have to also realize it will be different from Fifa. Most of the popular teams are shared between both games...the leagues and other core features are where they differ.

Controls on PES is also editable just as in Fifa. You can choose which button does what. So basically you can edit the button config to play just like you do in Fifa and vice versa.

As LOL stated, PES is different ...period. The passing system is what you will have to get used to and it takes many new players 20 to 30
full games to get the feel.

Getting the option files onto you console may require a bit of research also. PS3 is easy but Xbox360 needs a bit more "know how".

That should be it!

Let us know your feedback on PES

Peace

No. PC only (There is no way to replace the core .img files for the XBox or PS3 versions).

I am not kidding when I suggested the PC version. The abundance of option files available, as well as tons of other mods (commentary port, team chant port, stadium pack, anti-scripting patches...etc) can make the game even more fun than what it originally was. Couple that with insanely fast loading times compared to the console versions, and you have a killer (although online mode might let you down).

And do the option files give you all the teams that Fifa has?

Again, that depends on what option file you choose to install. Some, like most of the console-based option files, only patches the English Premier League and unlicensed national teams because those are the primary concern (you don't want to see unlicensed names and kits in your load-out screen, right?). Others, like some PC-based option files, strive to add entire leagues into the game.

What you'd definitely get in the game (mostly 1st Division teams of major European leagues):
- English Premier League
- Italian Serie A
- Spanish Primera Division
- French Ligue 1
- Dutch Eredivisie
- Some teams from other European leagues (e.g. German, Greek, Portuguese...etc)
- Copa Santander Libertadores teams (South America, not in Exhibition mode AFAIK)

Other teams you can get from PC-based option files (of course, there are more, these are just the ones I use):
- German Bundesliga (Link)
- English NPower Championship (Link)

Of course it won't cover everything FIFA 11 has, but most of the major teams/leagues are in the game.

Do you know what the main concerns with PES 2011 are?

For a newbie, I think adapting to the passing system would be your first major concern. After that, you can worry about AI scripting and cheating. The other area of concern will be the online experience, assuming you play online.
