FIFA 12 Discussion

Not that impressed, and I dont get the hype regarding this ''impact engine'', yeah, its a good idea, but how does it stop fifa being souless crap where there are little differences between players, thats argueably the biggest flaw in the game for me.

Also in the video players are crunching each other with career ending tackles and the ref is allowing it, hopefully the game will penalise players who mis time tackles.

Some people played FIFA 12 yesterday and here a tweets from them:

First of all new intro to the game. First clip shows select player celebrating and warming up, then shows teams in tunnel.

Friggen hell, new graphical look is mighty impressive! Day time that is, night time not so much #FIFA12

Emirates Stadium has a lower swinging camera compared to Stamford Bridge, very nice

First OMG moment! Player down injured. Ref stops play AFTER a few seconds. Sub him off. Restart, drop ball, and player kicks back to keeper!

OMG! Seamless throwin’s! No cutscene! ball goes out, you chase it, pick up and throw! Even throw from way behind the line

Dribbling = Win. Very similar to PES in terms of close control. Massive difference from FIFA 11. Impressive animation! Messi = God!

defense system is takin time getting used to. X/A is contain, stops you from tackling. O/B is now the tackle button. not intuitive

Good news for me is that impact engine isn’t as in your face as it could have been. Looks so good, but needs some tweaks

Wow to the shooting! Brand new ball physics guys! Finally…low hard crackers!

Dribbling is so different, and so many context animations too. Love it.

Van Persie new face!

Just seen Walcott pulling up with hamstring injury, when @dave979and @tem1985 were playing!

So played single player. Early build, but nothing great right now. New dribbling means you can evade more, but still samey

Yeh, day time graphics are special. really impressed with the new filter

Player individuality is improved to an extent, but more in dribbling now. Saying that, just got ripped apart by Terry v AI..

Really unsure about defensive system. Similar to PES 2011, in everything including where it needed improving.

Biggest thing to say is that the game is still FIFA. I mean no revolution. Key awesome improvements in areas, but it’s still FIFA.

player rating screens after the game have real life pictures of players! Nice touch!

My fave player in this build if Nasri. Awesome dribbling skills!

Seeing some ugly moments with impact engine. Like players reacting like a bomb has gone off over little things. Still early though

Tricks are the same, maybe more powerful as no one can defend proper lol

Had my first game with @Suffwan (won 2-0). Some very noticeable improvements. Menus are lovely and TV style presentation is lovely

Just saw a great example of the impact engine. Walcott pulled up randomly after taking some knocks throughout the game

Passing feels a little lethargic at times, hmm

Happy to say though, a lot less physical…more realistic than FIFA11.

Seamless play is the order of the day, impressed by that

Dribbling is much improved, more precise. Movement feels more natural

Passing is a bit lethargic at times, but you get moments where some passes will wow you

Lofted through balls are a bit powerful at the moment. Majority of the time the striker will win out.

Game time! Playing a “Pre-Alpha” build. Very early!

Haha players now kick the ball back to the opposition after fouls/injuries. Lovely cosmetic touc

Shooting is much heavier now. Which I for one love. Power bar now divided in to four chambers instead of 3

There are problems though, it’s far from “perfect” saving that detail for my full impressions though

Getting to grips with the Tactical Defending takes time. Where and when to use it is the key

Impact Engine is wonderful when it works but there some glaring issues at times. Obviously early but needs a mention

The pacing of the gameplay is better, much more reserved and controlled. Lots of time of the ball in tight areas. #FIFA12 on normal setting

My biggest issue with the AI is the off the ball movement. Can be quite static at times.

the new default camera is brilliant. Much flatter and a little more zoomed in. Gives a TV feel.

My biggest #FIFA12 highlight so far has to be Precision Dribble. Powerful but wonderful at the same time. Has contextual bits too

the match day experience has changed a lot. Menus are very slick and the Pre-match stuff is loads better.

dribbling is a much more powerful tool though seems inconsistent, early build though

CPU still insanely pressurising on Legendary! :(

Lunch break - #FIFA12 morning assessment – definitely moving in the right direction with new concepts – lots more work to do but good WIP

First thought, Shooting feels WAY better

Loads of stopping to view replays. Mostly for good reasons

Few impact engine problems, especially with off the ball collisions.

Overall, it’s early. Happy with most things, not about others. AI seems less aggressive aside from legendary

Defending much better. AI, momentum/inertia… still really problematic.

In regards to pacey players.. feels similar. Walcott isn’t being caught, nor getting away

It’s.. different but similar. Currently it’s not enough change to satisfy me.

I’ll do a full write up tonight/tomorrow. There are big positives, but too many negatives

I will believe it when I see it like tech said because fanboys from both sides HYPE THE GAME WAYYYYYY TO MUCH.

I mean how can they make all this sudden change in dribbling from fifa 11? I don't think so because t was way to stupid as you were required to use the trick stick. I can't see all this change in close control in fifa 12 when the current fifa engine is based around physicality ONLY.

But I'll see the demos again and then judge. But it seems the same thing. Gloss that blinds people. But again, I'll hold my judgement.

No you can't. This is a fact, try dribbling like Messi with Messi and the defence will outpower him because fifa revolves around strength and physicality only.

Same here, trick stick is a bit poo and most of the time a bit random, so I never use it and still manage to beat players.

Actually. I am a liar. I use the trick stick to knock the ball infront of my player sometimes. Scored a nice goal earlier with M. Pjanic. Took it in and out of 5 players inside a crowded box and slotted it in. I was tempted to save it.

I don't claim to be amazing at the game, but seriously people shouldn't be struggling to take players on after the game has been out this long?

Oh everyone does that. I thought by trick stick, he meant actually using tricks to take players on and score. Everyone is guilty of the long knock on thing.

I'm wondering if he ever uses the close control button to try and go round players. That can work well if you learn how to use it and when.

Are you on PS3 or XBOX Dale?:ninja:

You're obviously shit at the game? It's easy to take players on. I never use the trick stick.

And you're trying to tell me that in ffia you can do messi dribbling?
I'll save you all the talks, NO YOU CAN'T. The game revolves around strength so Messi dribbling is restrictive and always requires tricks.

When you dribble without tricks you may beat defenders, but TO A CERTAIN POINT, you cannot leave the defender wondering behind you, because the close control in fifa is beyond repair. That's the game's core and it cannot just change. And no I wasn't struggling, I was merely pointing out a fact.

If so, how do you explain the fifa boys for fifa 12 saying WOW DRIBBLING IS LIKE PES NOW WHERE YOU CAN ACTUALLY TAKE ON PALYERS WITH CLOSE CONTROL.
This shows that you couldn't do it effectively in fifa 11. Seriously it's a game's fault not the individual's lack of skill. Your player has to be strong to beat players too because every time you try to take on a defender, a battle of strength starts. The game's close control doesn't exist because there's no individuality in close control.

If some cannot accept this, then go play fifa and enjoy it.

What's a Palyer?

I was at work so don't b**ch about the hand writing or typing because it gets annoying. And was that necessary? I mean seriously, this is meant to be a discussion not a composition full of neat and perfect handwriting/ typing.

Waiting....
If the players is good enough, such as Messi, then you can dribble past players without the trick stick, including not needing to knock it ahead of you. I'm not saying it's easy, but it's definitely not impossible. You can dribble with close control by holding the sprint and close control button (R1+R2 for me), or just the close control button. It's a lot slower, but can work. You can even dribble past people without this. Just hold sprint and run, then press the jostle button when someone comes close. This is a lot easier than the close control, obviously.

A person shaggin your mom.

A tasteful contribution, there. :)

I never use the trick-stick, but have no problem beating players.

I guess it's easy for PES fans to be all "but you can't dribble like Messi on FIFA!!!" when the only reason you can do so in PES is because the animations used are Messi himself.

Baddar: You see, you're totally wrong there. Pes has millions of stupid things that I hate, but close control and individuality are far, far superior to fifa. There's a difference between Robben's close control and for example Ribery. In fifa there's none. There's huge difference between Menez and Totti in dribbling in pes.
It's not just for messi. But messi is special in pes, then again, even in reality, he is special because no one can dribble like him. I hate fanboys from both sides not admitting FAULTS.
Yes pes 11 has many faults and I admit that it has and I am ashamed of them but Fifa has stupid things that are irreparable aswell.

It's the way the game is built and close control is ruined because there isn't any difference between players so this argument falls here. I used to think it's beneficial, the R2 thing for close control but I realised that it's useless because there's no difference between players and the only difference you can find between players are the physical attributes. This shows you that fifa revolves around physicality ONLY.
BTW I am talking about vs the AI not human players.
