Can't train Playstyle cards. You have to add them in Edit. I've always updated ML players as they've developed stats that are associated with certain styles of play or special abilities.

Also look for transfer listed players and/or players in the final contract year with Advanced Search. They're usually pretty open to negotiations, especially if they're at teams with low overall rankings and/or they aren't getting games.

I created a guy a few days ago and he showed up immediately in my 2014/15 ML, so you shouldn't need to start a new game. :^) But yeah, they'll be in: "Negotiations > Search by Group > Other > Edit Players".
