Dribbling past defenders in PES3...

Have you tried using any of the skills? Obviously, it's going to be different from the easier (and less realistic) PES2.

Try changes of speed and direction too (use R2).

One thing that is annoying, however, is not being able to speed past defenders with players who have high acceleration stats. Konami probably had to strike a balance, however, otherwise the game would be too easy, really.

What a load of bull. Even I (a newbie and crap at PES) can dribble past defenders on a 3 star level. The way that I do it is run at them and just before I get to them (at 3/4 pace) I change direction sharply and I can go past them most of the time. It's all about timing IMO, I don't even know any skill moves. Sometimes at full pace I can get past defenders as well by changing the direction slightly to which I'm moving.

The skills are really hard to use, since the R2 button was completely useless. I used skill 1 or 2 times in PES3 and the guy dribbles like he's sleeping.

The annoying thing I really think is that the opponent flies past your defenders and there is nothing you can do about it. Applying pressure is wrecked also.

This game is definately harder than PES2. I can't score in 3 stars, I wonder what will happen with 4-5 stars.. But it's been less than a day since I bought it. So it'll get better- i hope

just gotta practice at it, diagonal runs help alot, the emphasis on this version is to beat the defence by passing and so on you gotta work out your chances on this one PES2 was too easy to dribble

I dont know what your talking about. On 3* I can usually speed my wingers down the side by drawing players away and then passing quickly. By the time they catch up I've already got in a cross or something.

I can dribble pass defender... it's hard in pes3 but it's not impossible. we used to pes2 xo/\[] pad rather than L3 (analog stick) because its easier to control players. But in pes3 i recommended L3, with L3 we can move freely. Its hard to control at first, but when u master with it... u can expect to move everywhere u want, dribble pass defender is not a problem and its even more beautiful than pes2.

I firstly press R2 speed up the dribble (and L3 of cos) and then u see defender like 3 feet infront of u, release the R2 (less than 1 seconds) and then move from them by pressing R2 back. tra lala... u can see the defender behind u already. i think it is easier if we try to pass defender from left side, because in pes3 defenders tend to tackle u with left foot.

Does anyone understand what i'm trying to say here? i'm confusing myself. THAT IS PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER... we can't explain what we know in the game. It's a game with feeling. LOL

dribbling past defenders in pes3

Trust me, dribbling past defenders is exceptionally hard but not impossible. In fact it becomes quite a skill once masetered and all your frustration will be gone when you do master it. It is so satisfying, if that's the right word to use.

The trick is in my opinion to start out using sidesteps. They are key. From a sidestep you can go forward, diagonally forward, or drag back like Roberto Carlos. You can roll and drag like Veron also. If you get the timing right and you are in control of a half decent player you should get quite a nice success rate of going past people. That is until you get onto five star against good teams, then it is about variety of tricks, just like real football. For beginners, go into free training mode and just practise the different tricks using R2. There is a tricks list on a pro evo website somewhere.

As for going past them using R1 it is twice as hard. If they commit themselves to the tackle you can time a change in movement just right to go past them. If they jockey you slightly they will intercept or bundle you over if you start changing the direction of your run.

The best thing to do is like real football, get a yard on them and plough straight ahead using R1. Honestly, your player will hold them off the way they hold you off when you are chasing them. If you are slightly ahead of them in proportion to the angle they are running at you this will work. I know it sounds complicated but it is simple, it just takes practise.

Once all this is mastered you can master all kinds of ball trickery. The 360 is solid to perform but done right it can be lethal, I am still learning. Pulled it off a few times though.

Also, last tip, sorry to rattle on. If you want to keep possession in their half and they keep hounding you just keep changing direction quickly without using any buttons. Obviously if they get close to stealing the ball away you can use R2 to get an extra yard from them. And playing into strikers feet, I have not mastered this yet but by trapping the ball with R1 your striker more times than most will hold the defender off allowing him to lay the ball off when a team mate is available. Only works for a short time though.

Hope some of this helps someone.

Dribbling is not very hard. It just takes practice - and to stop playing like you did in PES2. With a little effort in the training pitch and using the right players, you can be very slippery.

Also, you should let us know which camera view you are using as using one too close will not give you enough time to react. Default Long is quite a good one to use to improve dribbling.

NAY WE ARE BUT MEN. ROCK.
try running at the defenses at an angle, a good CF will hold the defenders off and fun into the area shoot first time and score! Super and much more exciting than PES2.

I must admit having played PES 1 & 2, whan I played this title I got a bit confused. One pre-review in a magazine even stated that they were not sure about the new game. They then said that after playing for a while they grew to love it. I am in the same opinion. PES3 was like playing PES but not feeling like a PES title. Afterplaying for a few days, I played PES1 (bunch of shite). It was like a totally new game. The way I dribble is like realfootball. Pass regulary to players with a bit of space. If you have the ball and you have the space, run at the opponents. When confronted by the opposing player, you can, if your lucky like PES2 change direction. I find that it is easier to slow down. Use the R2 button and either side step or a quick change in direction then full pelt again. THIS IS DEFINITLY THE BEST FOOTBALL GAME EVER PRODUCED. I have not played FIFA 2004 and I have heard it is a very good game! But I have found that unike last year, where I bought both PES2 and FIFA 2003. That I have found the best game. I do not need to look elsewhere!
