Reasons to still be optimistic

Ok so a fair few reviews have not been heaping the praise on PES 2010 but I'm still holding out hope. After all, these reviews are only one persons opinion and if you compare IGN's review to Eurogamers it's like they're talking about a different game!

I've been on metacritic as I was curious as to how the reviews compare to last year. While I was on there I looked at PES 2008 and I couldn't believe my eyes!!! Now, for me, PES 2008 was the low point of the whole series for Konami. It was too fast, far too easy and just seem to be lazily put together.

Here's a few reviews on PES 2008:

94% - Games Master UK- "Quite simply a footy fans' dream come true."

92% - Xbox World 360 Magazine UK- "PES 2008 remains far more than a yearly update; it's the first true next gen iteration of Xbox World's most played game."

90% - VideoGamer- "PES fans can forgive the poor graphics, the God-awful music, the embarrassing presentation and lack of licensed teams because the core of the game is so mind-bogglingly brilliant."

Now I'm not saying that the critics will have got their PES 2010 reviews wrong, I just think that the above review show that they can jump to conclusions. They obviously thought PES 2008 was great at first but didn't realise all the problems it had.

I'm hoping that PES 2010 is like PES 5 and only reveals its hidden depth after a few weeks of play :)

so what your inferring is that despite pes 2008 receiving decent reviews and being pretty parp, that PES10 has much worse reviews but will be so much better?

i think your logic got borked.

when PES08 came out, fifa 09 had not yet been realised.

theres a thing called 'moving goalposts' - what may be considered good 2 years ago in the face of paltry competition wouldnt necessarily score the same now with entirely different competition.

that pes10 is basically PES08 and PES09 but with some tweaks hither and thither to me is a failure.

You've just proven not to trust the opinion of half these jerks. Thats exactly what the guys at Winning Eleven blog have been saying their is a depth to the game you just have to sit down with it and give it time.

I'm just saying that reviews can often be very, very wrong! For instance Eurogamer gave IL2: Sturmovik a 7/10 and I've bought the game and think it's great!

I'm not saying PES 2010 is gonna be great, and I'll be annoyed as everyone if its a polished PES 2009, but I'm just taking these reviews with a pinch of salt.

Fifa 09 got rave reviews and was supposed to be the best footy game ever, which made me buy it, and after 8 weeks I was bored and realised how repetitive it was. I'm hearing a lot of people say the same about Fifa 10 already!!!

hm i played the IL2 demo, i think i shot down something like 29 enemies (without dying, having not played it since the original release on the PC).. i had to simply quit out of boredom.

i havent read the IL2 reviews but if they say its pretty boring, then id agree. its not an inspiration game, infact its a bit of a flop, hence why a lot of stores have it on offer for low price.

sure gives PES time and you might be able to look past some of the flaws... but really... should the same flaws really be apparent in a game for 3 consecutive releases? im talking - goalkeepers, player momentum, headed goals.

I bet if we looked back at this forum last year I bet there was the same weak defence of the game flaws for 2009

Agreed with OP. Afterall reviewers are people like us. They probably didn;'t give both fifa and pes a try in depth and for me, they are not to trust. It's better to hve someone, a member on a forum that you can ask as he plays is everyday and so he can give better reviews than most others as he is playing it in depth.

Francis doesn't visit this forum often but he is eligible to what i am saying. But there are others that write in the forums like ceysin or some guys at pesfan. Some at WENB aswell. They are eligible aswell and many are saying that the game is great.

ok mate - one of the main probs is that it doesn't seem to matter what the press or the sites say there are some players that will try and extract fun from the game regardless.

I mean , where do you draw the line. How bad does the game have to be for some PES players before they switch/not buy it.

It’s frustrating because I want a true next gen PES game – i used to be the biggest fan of the series.

so why trust the folks at a PES dedicated site like WENB?
