PES 2008, Excellent, But Also a Pile of Dog Shit

I think one of the biggest issues with football games is that players suffer from diminishing returns.
At the beginning of the day/session, we tend to perform amazing goals, the games are fluid and very rarely frustrating.
The problem comes when you've been playing for a few hours and fatigue has begun to set in (controller cramp ftl). The PES AI has always seemed to strive to highlight that you're tired and generally sucking by seizing the opportunity to drive you nuts. Of course, you push yourself harder to draw level and the AI seems to always adapt to your desperation with perfect passing, perfect reaction/placement and laughs at your human condition by the fact you can and will very easily pass the ball to no one when you wanted to shoot instead. The AI will never do this of course - because the AI in PES is too good.
AI that is too good is not smart AI. Smart AI is AI that makes mistakes, gets frustrated and is also prone to throwing virtual gamepads about. When we see AI that does that, we've perfected AI.

how can you learn to be a better player at controlling players 20 yards outside the box when defending a corner?
if the game won't let you control a defender inside the box what the fuck am i supposed to do?

FIFA 08 has flaws too. BioShock does. GTA does. Neverwinter Nights 2 does. The NWN 2 expansion pack made a cardinal mistake. Even Unreal Tournament is never perfect.
If you don't like a game, don't buy it. Typing for minute after minute and hour after hour on a forum about how shit a game is concerns me greatly about the individual.

Well, I dunno. It seems that some interesting/amusing discussion has ensued.....
all PES forums seem to be full of people either criticising the game or praising it......Both pursuits at the end of the day being utterly pointless......but we all do it anyway....
AND IF WE DIDNT, places like this would be dead.
The flaw with Unreal tournament made was ever being released in the first place.....Same can be said of Bioshock.....grossly overated.

With my first game on PES'08 I was let down, but after playing around 6 more games it's starting to really grow on me. It just feels right once you know what you're doing. Keepers seem harder to beat and I don't find it as easy to score rockets from 30 yards. I'm pretty happy with it at the moment and I'm looking forward to playing a mate or playing some one online to really test my skills.

That's the funniest thing I've read on here in a long time. Your lack of taste really needs to be addressed. As for this site being dead if we discuss the game, I clearly stated that there's a difference between giving an opinion (which is fine, along with having a "discussion") and sitting on here for hours typing the same stuff over and over using different words.

Look through the forums.....count the amount of different posts saying the same things time and time again be it positive or negative....add em all up.

When the fuck do I ever complain about features not being in the game or even do the opposite? Get your facts straight first. Very rarely do I discuss the game on here because I have more sense.

But not EVERYBODY will be happy, people will complain every year, for whatever reason. A few people have mentioned their disappointment at the omition of the player cam...personally i think it was fucking shite. But there you go, different opinions all the time, we still get a fantastic game.

Whilst FIFA certainly has its strongpoints FIFA 08 is NOT the answer to any PES problems.
Yeah...its still an excellent game. Upon first playing it seems like just a better looking crisper PES6 but as u play more the game opens up more etc etc....
But ken whit....ave no been playin it tonight......I am actually a wee bit bored by it already....cos essentially, it is the same freakin gameplay as it has been for 6 years...not to mention all the newly introduced aggravating features I spoke about in the start of this thread. Was sitting playing with Italy in the Euro Cup but I switched it off mid-game and played Zelda on the Wii on instead
True, it's quite easy, but not that easy. I'd say it's PES-5 easy, which means it's still simple to pull off after you've played the game for a few months. At least that's what it seems like for now.
Well, these ARE PES-5 easy. Besides the CPU scoring a lot, I'm getting the hang of it now and of the last 5 I got, I've scored 3 from medium distance. In PES 5 the maximum I got was 5 FK goals in one game, from various distances, while in PES 6 I must have scored 10 during the whole year. Needless to say, neither of the two games was well balanced in that area. Let's see if I can beat my PES 5 mark this year...
Actually, programming a keeper must be incredibly hard, as they almost never feel quite real. If my mind doesn't trick me, the best keepers were those of PES 2, which didn't have as many animations but seemed to be better balanced. I guess trying to add new animations and more complicated situations (complex rebounds, different reactions to different situations, etc) must be hard to pull off. Especially the part about the additions looking realistic in every possible situation.
I've already stated my opinion on this.
Call me naive, but I don't think it's done on purpose... which means that they have some important flaws in their planification and INNOVATION procedures. The developer team is too small, and they are so used to the game that it feels like they don't really know what to do with the gameplay anymore... hence we now get beautiful graphics and improved ML, but there's nothing new in the game's most important and revered department. They really need some fresh brains now.
