Just signed Yashin, Adu, Duffy and Nedved.
First impressions:
Yashin (1 start; 0 sub appearances): Excellent, for an 18 with seemingly poor stats. Made a string of fingertip brilliant saves in his only game so far, and helped enormously to the 1-0 scoreline.
Adu (1 start; 0 sub appearances): Pretty good, good in the air given his height, and can beat people, needs work on finishing and crossing though, but at 24 is an excellent prospect.
Duffy (0 starts; 2 sub appearences): Contrasting games really. His first appearence, in the league, he came on around 60mins and got sent off harshly for a nontheless rash challenge 25mins later. Was generally quiet in that game til then. In the other game, he still went in for a lot of sliding tackles, but timed every one to perfection and ran the show for the last 30mins, stopping Real Madrid from getting back from 1-0 down. His only mishap during the game was a collision with the referee, and even then he won the ball back with a great tackle. He already has great stats and will only get better.
Nedved (0 starts, 1 sub appearance): I didn't really get a good look at him in the 20mins he played against Manchester City, but he passed alright and didn't lose it once. His stats are very high for a 21 year old too, if he grows into the same player he did for me on PES5, he'll be immense. Actually I had Torres and Duffy in that team too.

Impressions at the end of the season:
Yashin: a good shot stopper, generally, not amazing, but only 19 now and hasn't made any huge blunders.
Adu: pretty poor, cannot finish and his dribbling isn't in the same league as Walcott and Lennon, and lacks strength.
Duffy: not looking amazing, too weak for DMC and can't shoot. However, he is very versatille and otherwise decent, so he makes a good reserve.
Nedved: by far the best buy I made that window. Excellent at shooting, can hold the ball and has good pace. And is only around 20, really promising, perfect age to take over from Reo-Coker too.

Anyway, my new signings in the summer:
Huddlestone. So powerful, wish I'd just got him earlier, like a monster in the midfield. Haven't really got a chance to try his long shooting out yet though, but he's already got three goals (2 games into season)
Schmidt. Excellent in the air, but he is weaker than Agger, Hobbs and Jackson, but he'll get better, for sure.
Kaiser. I used to have him, but didn't find him too good and let him go, but I didn't realise his age (and therefore is potential) so I snapped him up again. Good, not amazing, but a good solid worker and perfect for a backup DMC. Doubt HUddlestone will allow him too many chances to get into the team.
Shaw. Again, I had him the same season as Shaw, but he was too weak. Giving him another go, but he is so weak it's really hard to put up with him, his finishing and crossing is good though.
Hamann. Basically my favourite player ever, so I am hoping he'll grow into the amazing player he used to be for Liverpool and Germany.

Play Huddlestone as DMF, Kaiser as a playmaking CMF or DMF just in front of Tom, and they're capable of stopping pretty much any opponent in midfield, as well as creating and/or scoring tons of goals.

The problem with that, is that Lucas and Reo-Coker are so much better than Kaiser, who really I've yet to be impressed by (hence why I let him go) so he's as an understudy to Huddlestone. When Gerrard retires I might move Kaiser to understudy to Lucas then bring in a DMF.

Second half of the third season is already underway. I have off-loaded every single default cunt and have now what i deem a respectable squad.

I released both Macco and Burchet and i signed a young SMF that goes by the name of David Degen. I picked him because he's young and he's got useful Specials. He is very aggressive. He likes to take shots from a distance. He scored one from way outside the box just the other day.

I was able to sign Cuellar and consequently dropped Baumann. I also sold Modric and signed Nasri. I bought Jansen as well. I needed a natural LB, you see. I traded Larsson for Santa Cruz - which wasn't a very smart move - because Larsson was already ageing, so i thought i was better off letting go of him, though even at his age he was better than most strikers. Oh well. I released Castolo and signed Oliveira. The Brazilian is an improvement but he won't do at all either. I'll sell him or Santa Cruz and i will sign a young striker. I'm not sure who yet.

Surprisingly, Manchester United agreed to sell Anderson to me. I hope he developes into something worth all the cash i had to pay to secure his services.

So, this is how my squad looks like now, in 2009:

-------------------------------Gomes(1)-----------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Nelson(2)---------Da Costa(4)--------Bruno Alves(14)-------Jansen(3)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------Kompany(5)----------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------Moutinho(10)-------------------------------------
--------------------------------------Van der Vaart(7)--------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Nicolita(17)--------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------Castillo(19)
----------------------------Santa Cruz(9)---------------------------

Subs: Ivarov(23), Cuellar(24), Fucile(13), Miguel Veloso(6), Nasri(11), Anderson(8), David Degen(22), Oliveria (12).

:smug:

My best players, so far, are Da Costa, Kompany, Veloso, Gomes, Nicolita and VdV.

Castillo was shit hot when i got him, but he's not having a particulary good season.

Next order of bussiness is to get either Essien or Yaya Toure, and secure a good young striker with proper Specials.

He's pretty incredible, but takes a long, long time to get to that point. If he's still really young, he's worth loaning out for a couple of seasons, if you can.

Won't that hinder his growth and decrease his popularity?

Almost every young player I've loaned has come back a little bit better in terms of growth. Popularity, I don't really pay any attention, so I don't know there.

I think the key is to loan players to teams where they are better than (or at least fairly close to) their positional competition, so the computer will actually "play" them. The one time I loaned a player out to Juventus, he didn't get any experience, because, as an AMF, being in a team with Nedved and Del Piero in the squad meant no play time for the little guy.

I can't loan out players... there's not a loan list you can put them on is there?

You're pretty much at the mercy of the CPU. I usually get at least one loan offer per window, though it's not always for players I've made available for transfer.

I've bought Dos Santos just a moment ago as well :)
Seems to become a very good player.

I am very curious if I can get Walcott already as well.

Also I missed out on a very very good defender from the looks of it. He was a rooky but he had pretty good stats for a 17 year old and he had marking, sliding, dline and covering abilities!
Next maldini if you ask me. I'll get his name in a sec. Some asian guy probably.

I have won the league, at the very last day as well. We were one point behind the leaders -Chelsea - and they had to play aginst Liverpool. We had to face West Ham.

Amazingly enough, we crushed them 0-6! I allow the COM to play the games, so it actually gives me a greater sense of 'achievement' to have gotten that result. We scored three during the second half, after some spot-on substitutions. Chelsea drew in their match so it was truly a glorious ending to the season. I enjoyed how the commentators were talking about how crucial the match was going to be and that everything was resting on the outcome.

Anyway, the team is quite good now, but i want to swap Cuellar for a better CB and i need someone to play in midfield. I want to sign a young striker and someone to replace Oliveira as well. He's good, but isn't improving really, as he's already thirty. I have traded him for Tuncay. He's only 27 and has got a good set of Specials. I think he'll be a good sub. The young striker i want, is Ryan Babel. He's got very good specials for a striker and is quite young.

I wanted to sign Quagliarella, as he looks like he's a real menace, but it's proving difficult to sign those two, even though we have achieved S (Super?) Popularity. That's just silly.

There are two midfielders i'm looking into right now. Lucas and Marchisio. I'm assuming it's Claudio Marchisio. They've both got very good Abilities for their age, but i think i'm going to go for the Italian.

We'll see how the negotiations go....

So, basically, you're playing as if it was a manager game, Usul? :)
Yep. With the previous versions it was not possible, as the AI was nightmarishly frustrating, but PES2008's AI is quite good actually.

This way you feel how the new signings make a difference, and each player has a personality of his own.

It's also more exciting when you are one goal down, or are tied, and there is only a few minutes left on the clock. I love it when i make a last minute substitution and the player i just brought in scores or gives an assist.

Besides, i don't like to play against the COM. I prefer human opponents.

Transfers are boringly predictable for me...

The COM bids for one of my unsaleable players, like Torres, about 2 bids at a time, never a loan offer, and very occasionally a swap deal for someone shit. Then I reject them and 2 weeks later they make the same offer, same player.

Last time I loaned out someone was PES6, in the mid-season window in my first season, I was offered a swap for Ruskin where I recieved Coloccini plus money, then the week later Real offered me loads of money to send him on loan.

So I got rid of a poor ish player, and 6 months later I got Coloccini, with super boosted stats, and got paid loads for it. Deal of the year, as he became my captain, midfield rock and all-time legend.

Marchisio is incredible, I can't recommend him enough. He's 25 in my team now, got him when he was 20, and he's just an absolute beast in centre, defensive or attacking midfield.
He's 95 for pace and technique, with 90+ on all passing and shooting abilities. You might want to edit his appearance though, as his hair's completely different in real life lol.
