Have we finally moved into the "Next Gen" or are we still polishing a turd (graphics wise)

The graphics are similar but the lighting effects (floodlights/sun etc) are spectacular. It really adds to the feel of the game, definitely the best I have seen in a sports game but I haven't seen Fifa 09 yet.

Is this the stunning graphical update seabass was talking about?

Yes. Same as it does in real life.

I'm sure you'd have something to moan about if the pass button didn't work when you get to a certain point in the penalty area.

It's realistic, it happens, therefore it belongs in the game.

It should be there, because it makes it realistic -BUT- with that same Logic, I'd expect Konami to implement a better system for Tackling and Sliding Tackles.

Because that's what makes it Unrealistic, they keep including "Drab Backs", etc, etc.. But the Defensive Play and Features have gone from bad to worse with PES08. Just as in real life, it is very difficult to get past a Defender via a "Drag Back".

And, that's NOT the case with PES08, as in PES08 you can simply run in a straight line and score the same Goal time and time again.. Boring and extremely Unrealistic.

Konami has even included "Diving" into the game.. I don't understand why they still haven't introduced something more Significant, a more dynamic Defensive system perhaps; Different Types of Tackles in Different Situations -instead- of the same exact Tackle and Sliding Tackle regardless of the situation, or position of the players.

It could be.. I mean, that's how Seabass talks.. When he says he's going to produce a "Complete Overhaul in every Aspect" -what- he really means is "I will Tweak the game slightly".

And I guess that when he said that PES09 "had undergone a stunning graphical update" -what- he really meant was "PES09 has undergone some slight Tweaks with the Lighting Effects".

I really don't know what to expect from the Gameplay, more of the same I guess.

Sebass said in an interview "maybe not next year". this could either mean he is working on a new engine (which is still not finished) and KONAMI again is pushing Seabass to release a tweaked game this year. Or Seabass is still working on the same engine and found out the end of the engine has been reached, so the only thing to do is polish up the graphics and add more modes. The last thing also means no freedom for shooting and passing where ever you want, no smart AI, no realistic goalkeepers etc as in the previous version.

Yeah, PES09 is full of uncertainties.. However, the certain thing is that IF it turns out that Konami have reached the end of the road with the Old Gen Game Engine -then- they might be screwed because PES09 is an important one for Konami.

If FIFA has worked on a New game engine -while- Konami hasn't -then- it is Game Over for Konami.. as simple as that.

That said, Seabass said something about "Maybe Not Next Year" -but- then again, he also PROMISED "New Things and a Complete Overhaul in every Aspect". I just don't see How a tweaked version of PES08 -is- a "Complete Overhaul" in every Aspect.

Has Seabass been working on a New game Engine?? Is he still polishing a turd?? Who knows? FACT still is, that if seabass has NOT been working on a new engine -then- it's over for Konami -as- I expect most fans will NOT keep buying touched-up versions of PES08.

At least, I now I won't be buying PES09 again in 2010. That trick might have worked for the past 5 YEARS -as- I basically spent well over 130$ on the same game with updated kits. But I'm NOT falling for that one again.

I'll probably still buy PES09 -because- PES08 is unplayable. But after PES09 if Konami is still polishing the same Old Gen Engine, still using the same Old set of Stats and Special Abilities (without introducing New Player Attributes), still using the same exact Controls with no NEW Features, etc, etc.. IF that's the case again with PES 2010, then I'm not wasting more ca$h on the same game.

We have to keep in mind that programmers always talk shit to hype their games. If this interview turned to be right, and many people say it is from a earlier code then even so it's still not good enough. "overhaul"..That could mean anything. one thing is clear now pes 2008 wasn't finished. So this means they had 2 years to create a game we all would love even people who never played a football game. this may come as a shock for you but i haven't played (allot) any of the ps2 PES games, basically because I demand allot. i have played them but i was not a fan. And never was a fan of FIFA. What i am trying to say is that the PS3 is so powerful you can do almost anything you want. And i mean anything. My brother has shown me stuff on how powerful this machine is. What we see now day's is maybe 60% of what the machine is capable of. Now i know programming on the ps3 is difficult, but with all the money they are making from us they should get at least 2 Sony guy's and more programmers. that's all I am asking.

it seems like we can give you the best but each year you have to buy the upgrade cause we wanna make money out of it.

I see what you're saying, I just meant that one major downfall about PES in the past has been how easy it was to score dragback/cheat/whatever you want to call them...goals.

We've read before every other PES game of the last 3 or 4 years how the defensive side of the AI has vastly improved, and yet, it's still not good enough, or as good as they've made it out to be, at least.

They're saying the AI is going to be much better this time around, but it's something that's said before every PES and Fifa game that's released, so I take it with a pinch of salt.

This is an interview from a media person playing an early code befor PES.

- The are more than 19 stadiums as some of those 19 wont even be in the game as it was just an early code. There will be atleast 25.

- The Champions League should be featuring in the ML mode as they bought Liverpool and Man Utd to atleast have some showing of Prem teams in the competition. They cant have a stand alone mode for it as chelsea and Ars would be licensed so it would look crap.

- Liverpool wont have Carlsberg on their shirts as its beer advertising

- The ML wasnt on this early code of the game so wasnt even seen. Could be revanpt so dont go getting upset over nothing because no1 has even seen it yet.

- If you want to get high quality info on this news go to the WENB

Well, in my opinion FIFA is NOT even about Football, it fails miserably to interpretate Football as it should be.

Although, FIFA 2009 could be something new from EA..

And as for PES, I was a fan of the PS2 versions -however- after playing the same game for 5 YEARS now, I'm just bored of it. That said, I'm very demanding with Football games because I think they have HUGE Potential (as PES5 shows) -but- companies haven't come close to that potential because they keep releasing touched-up-profitable versions.

And with the PS3 I'm even more demanding because the Console is easily capable of producing a game (at the very least) twice as good. I think what we are seeing nowadays, at least in Football Sims, is like 50% of what Next Gen Consoles (PS3, 360) are capable of.

And again, How could anyone justify that the PS2 versions of PES where better than the PS3 versions of PES08??

Honestly, I'm still asking myself; for How Long can Konami keep this going?? It seems PES09 will be what "PES08 should have been" -in- other words, a polished version of PES08 -with- the same Set of Stats and Special Abilities, with the same Controls, Same Gameplay.. it's the same Old game with better Graphics.

Is that the best Konami can manage after 2 YEARS??

Anyways, if PES 2009 is just as good as PES5 -then- at least we have a decent Football Sim for the PS3.

And if the Online Mode works properly -then- it should be enough to satisfy most of their fanbase.

That's the only Positive Point I can consider (until now) about PES09.

I have no doubts that the next PES will be great to play. But You and i are demanding people we want quality games not casual games. That's all

We're just demanding Konami actually do their job properly, and that's to release a PES game that functions correctly. No glitchy/shite AI and a game that is playable online. How hard can it really be ? They had it spot on for PES6, minus the presentation and edit mode.

I wish people would stop calling PES08 unplayable. Its not a great game, certainly not the best in the series, and quite possibly the worst in the series, but it is still a decent game, especially multiplayer-wise.

PES09 will probably be more of the same unfortunately. This is actually the first time since ISS98 that I will be renting the game before I buy it to see if it is worth the investment. One thisng I would love is for random select mode to make a return.

Of course there should be no glitches and the game should act normal. But i think Amateur and i and i know for sure you too are not satisfied with a proper working pes2008.

Pes2009 should have almost everything we ever dreamed of. They had enough time. if this doesn't happen then w'll have to wait for a new engine. As long Seabass listen to their costumers i have no doubts that he will succeed, but it sometimes seems he does only what KONAMI tells them to do and leaves the Fans in the dark.

i mean look at the latest Video's that are released by EA regarding FIFA09. All they talk about is how they went out in the community and actually listened to what customers had to say. Now that's good marketing.
