I've played the demo now non-stop and there are a few things i think Konami should improve on.
One being the thru ball in the air, you're 5 feet past defender, the ball bounces (it's 4 feet high after the bounce and dropping), I hit shoot and I get a lame diving header when i was hoping he'd volley a hole in the net. Now I've gotten the volley to happen as well but the diving header should be added only if the keeper is way close!
My dear Alij, if you press the shoot button just as it is on the height of your chest the player will shoot. Since you press the shoot button while the ball is above the player the game assumes you want to head the ball. The game always reacted in relation to the ball.
I still make the same mistake sometimes
Back to our topic...
A few more days have passed and I have this to say. The more I read around the net and the more I play FIFA, the more I come to the following conclusion. This is only for the Console Versions since PES wins without a fight on the PC.
GRAPHICS: FIFA wins. Just look at the screens.
PRESENTATION/MENUS: FIFA wins. The screens again say it all. Not to mention FIFA’s soundtrack.
HANDLING: FIFA is clearly the winner this year. I enjoy it more than the current PES. But…
AI: PES wins because it has less balancing issues than FIFA. FIFA plays a better game but it’s minor AI glitches ruin the fun. In the long run, these things matter.
MANAGING MODE: PES’ Master League is by far the best here. I don't think they will ruin it this year. On the other hand, poor transfer system, leveling and unrealistic results ruin the FIFA experience. Liverpool first :w00t, with Chelsea at 12th place and Man U. at 16th??? :fplm: Lol.
TOURNAMENTS: PES’ licensing of the UEFA CL is the winner. I don’t understand how they could produce such a presentation for the rest of the game when the UEFA CL is as polished as it should be. UEFA itself couldn’t have done it better. FIFA on the other hand gets all the nice tournaments, but only on the PC version. Too bad.
BE A PRO/LEGEND: PES’ wins here in my book. Just the fact that you have to be good to even be in the starting lineup, not to mention staying in it, is a good enough reason for me to buy the game. FIFA on the other side ruins it by allowing you to be in it from the get go. Also the fact that you have to ‘’control’’ your teammates by encouraging tackles, shots and the like is stupid and missing the point.
ONLINE: Well for this I will have to wait. EA clearly needs to improve reliability. They obviously didn’t expect so many ppl online. Apart from that, it plays almost lag free. Few minor glitches but nothing game ruining. The Adidas Live Seasons are cool but for 5$ each... no thanks. As for PES they have to improve the overall experience from last year, at least on the PS3.
EDITOR: As always the PES community will shine ones again, so no need to tell you who is the best on this one.
So PES 2009 will be better than FIFA 09 in the long run. The whole package is more balanced than the one FIFA 09 offers. PES 2009 isn’t surely the best soccer game out there, nor is FIFA 09. So the question is what matters more to you.
If what you want is, life like controls, slow build up, shiny graphics and the best online mode on a footie game. Then buy FIFA 09.
If what you want is, familiar controls, a fast paced game, a very good managing mode, a more realistic implementation of the Be a Pro/Legend mode. Then buy PES 2009.
Either way, at least this year we get to have 4 great games to play around with.
PES 2009
FIFA 09
Football Manager 2009 (THIS is the best soccer game out there imho)
and
FIFA Manager 09
So everyone should relax and just enjoy the ride, things can only get better.
