Have you set the controls to match Pro Evo too? You can get them perfect, bar the tricks. I feel right at home on it now, and can apply the same tactics i do on Pro Evo. Except in Fifa my teammates are on the same wavelength and make the runs i want them too.

aye i've changed them to pes because its just waht i'm used to its second nature to me the pes controls
same here, really, i wish people would give it a go, not to convert, but just to see what pes could improve on, like the online for example

I was reluctant as anything to believe the hype surrounding Fifa but was convinced to try it because of the 10v10 online. And i'm so glad i did. I'm now working on converting my mates back in England to follow suit. I know my mate Loz (who was the best player along with myself in our group of about 15 lads) would convert if he gave it the chance, problem is they're all so diehard Pro Evo that i've got my work cut out. Luckily they respect my opinion as a footy game fanatic, so i'm sure i'll warm them up to it in time.

You're not really explaining much there mate. The old Fifa's are undoubtedly cack, while 2009 is a completely different kettle of fish. Hence why many old Fifa fans have gone off the new version, it's too deep and Pro Evo like for them to cope with. When i say Pro Evo like, i mean it takes the best parts of Pro Evo and throws out the shit.

What, you want me to explain every bit in detail?

Okay

Tackling: standing tackle was incredibly over-effective, but was only activated by holding O when next to the player (ie if you didn't press the button your player wouldn't be interested in the ball). Slide tackle wasn't very good - often gave away fouls. I also remember on old FIFA's there used to be a special button or button combo that gave away a straight red foul - I used to use it if the opponent had an empty net.

On FIFA 2009 the standing tackle is in fact more effective than ever - get nearly any of your players locked in a barging battle with an opponent and you have a good chance of winning the ball. However, the slide tackles this year have been improved greatly - unlike on any previous PES or FIFA title it really feels like your player is forcibly lunging himself in to win the ball - on other games it feels like they briefly slide, then get up again, with minimal effort. Side note: player reactions to tackles on FIFA deserve an award of their own.

Passing: the X pass on old FIFAs, and also the square pass (long ball/cross) were guided by lasers to the feet of your teammate. However, it has to be said that passing is the majority of a game. In nearly every FIFA the passing is sluggish - the ball travels slowly and one touch passing often didn't work, despite as I previously mentioned, the amount of stupid additions to the game EA made. Crossing into the box was a bit better - FIFA got the early cross down to a tee early on. It opened the game up a bit because it meant you could properly seige the opponent's goal. Through balls... they basically varied from being very nicely guided for the run of the teammate, to being a completely manual pass (depending on direction the player is facing and length held) and didn't react to the teammate at all. This led to problems with the game often switching your control to the wrong player - the one who it was intended for you can't change to.

On FIFA09 one touch passing has been implemented very well. However, I still get the FIFA feeling (and my main reason for disliking all recent FIFA titles) of the ball being sluggish when travelling between players - it slows a lot more than it should and reduces the effect of a quick attacking burst. However, this is less than it was on old FIFA games. Bizarrely, considering how well FIFA did early crosses on old games - it occasionally doesn't work at all on 09, the ball just flying out of play as if you hadn't held L1 (or whatever the early cross button is). Also, the double tap square cross is useless, it never even reaches the near post. Low crosses and normal crosses are alright - but FIFA has appaling shots from heading, so the whole crossing issue is redundant almost. Through balls are very sweet on FIFA - even in my first game I was slicing the gap between the centre back and full back to play in my winger. However, it's incredibly easy to do, and when you combine this with lofted through balls, you are getting several certain chances per match, just like the old lofted through ball on FIFAs used to do.

Shooting: on old FIFAs this has to have been the worst part. Your shot basically only ever went in a straight line perpendicular or 45 degrees to the goalline. So as soon as you were 1 on 1 with the keeper, just get in line with the far post, and you should slot it in every time. Long shots were quite tricky though. On very old FIFAs there wasn't even a power bar - it was as guided as the passing. Shots from headers never worked. Volleys were just normal shots basically - you could hit perfect lobbed shots (lob shots being too easy on FIFA anyway) from a first time volley, very unrealistic.

On 09, I think the close range shooting is ruined by the incredibly easy placed shot. Long shots, 9 out of 10 times will look good, then start taking off to the skies, occasionally they will test the keeper. A massive weak point for FIFA09. Volleys are a good point though, the physics for volleys are very realistic. Headered shots are again awful. Shooting is probably the most changed from old FIFAs.

Dribbling: on old FIFA's, the best players were slightly faster, and otherwise every player was identical. So if you had anyone with an overall rating of over 80 against someone with a rating of below 70, they would beat them every time. The trick stick was a crap addition.

On FIFA09, trick stick is still useless (the only good tricks are very hard to use in a match). They have rectified the dribbling problem by making it an even playing field - thanks to the brilliant tackling, you can't beat anyone with anyone. However, the first touch and knock on controls from the right stick are brilliant, and I miss them in PES.

I hope this is in as much detail as possible for you?

Can you have multiple people playing from one console in a 10v10 game then, or do you all play on seperate consoles? If you can then that's awesome!!!!

Some of you will remember that I gave my own views on fifa 09 and i gave it a 9.8.

Well...the fifa effect has struck again. Like with every fifa it starts off great. But I have been playing this for 4 days now and I have to admit that its starting to get repetetive. The goals really are all the same and you really cannot score outside of the box.

The first few days I mean the game was simply amazing.....but it seems that thats all it had to offer. It doesnt have the lasting appeal of PES.

I will say this tho: FIFA 09 is better then the PES 2009 DEMO. Im in the usa so i have not played the full version yet, so I will not judge it yet. I did like the demo better then the FIFA 09 demo which was not very good.

Id say the game, FIFA 09, is more like a 8.1 now. It still has that ATMOSPHERE, great stadiums and awesome graphics but....it doesnt last long i guess. IDK what seabass and his ppl do to PES that give it that longevity.

btw off topic.....what are scores like in PES 2009? are they high scoring games or low? In master league and exchibition.

Don't tug on Superman's cape.

i played last years fifa for a bit a found it was the case that after a while the game loses its character where is with pes i always feel very involved when doing a master league for example. The action begins to feel stale although fifa 08 was a good game. This year i have enjoyed pes the more i have played it.

Bottom Line?? That is EA Sports, you buy their product "FIFA09", you play it for a Month (maybe) -and- then, that's it, the game becomes Old-Boring-Repetitive very quickly. There's just no Value to it, there's no Depth to it -and- it fails in the Most Accurate Review of all; The Test of Time.

Like any great piece of Music -if- you are truly great, then your songs will stand the Test of Time, take John Lennon's "Imagine" for example, it still sounds fresh Today.

This is why IGN reviews on PES are quite worthless, you need to play it for more than a Week to really start to Feel what it offers -whereas- in FIFA you can Feel what it offers since Day One, that's all you'll get from the game.

This is why FIFA09 still is the Fun Game to play, the Arcade Game with Lack of Depth -because- if there's One Thing that distinguishes Football, it is Depth and Complexity, something PES is slightly ahead of FIFA.

Animations and Movements aside, PES still is the better Football Sim.

Yeah and to be quite honest, animations dont play too big of a role for me when it comes to gameplay. But yeh PES 2009 has pretty good graphics and, from what I read, great gameplay again.

Yeah IGN reviews for PES and FIFA are pointless. PES needs to be played for about 3 weeks and then you may review it. With FIFA you will not want to play it for 3 weeks. I was hoping FIFA 09 would hold me over till pes 2009 but that's out of the question. I will buy FAR CRY 2 ( it might be a more realistic football game then FIFA hehe ).

But yeah nice to hear you agree.

My two cents. I will keep it brief...

Traditionally, I am a staunch PES fan. I hated PES2008, and Fifa 08 was better, so I bought that. Saying that, after two months, I hardly played Fifa.. Anyway.....

This year. Bought Fifa 09 on the back of the wave of great reviews it received. I was enjoying it to be fair. Then PES2009 came out, I was impressed with the rolling demo in Zavvi, having downloaded the demo and HATING IT.

So I took the plunge and bought PES2009. I thought I would give PES a few weeks, to properly play test it against Fifa 09. Now I can say that I love PES2009. What is hasn't got in terms of the bells and whistles, the 10 v 10 online mode etc etc, it more than makes up for it in terms of gameplay.

I was stupid to stray from PES. It completely destroys Fifa imo.

PES has a way of repeatig itself too but still manages to be ahead of FIFA. Only real advantage FIFA has is official player names and kits (But only dorks put that ahead of gameplay).

PES is bull**** because no matter how little they do to improve it, it will always have that extra something to keep you buying it!!

And you dont spit in to the wind.

Frankly only kids care about FIFA vs PES. Anyone who sits down and thinks about it knows that it doesnt matter wtf game you play or what you prefer. The only thing that matters is that you enjoy playing.

I suppose if your between the age of 8 and 10 years old fifa 09 is the one for you.ITS TOO F*****G EASY!!! pes 2009 all the way. I have just finished editing all the kits, names, emblems, teams etc and added some extras, leeds utd, L.A.Galaxy.......... takes some time but it is well worth it. Also pes 2009 have improved the player likeness a great deal, still abit behind fifa 2009.

Pes player likeness is behind fifa 09? You should see comparisons and see that pes is actually far superior in player models and likeness.

Yeah, I always laugh when I hear that "FIFA09 has better player models".. maybe Models, could be -but- the Faces are embarrassing.

It makes FIFA look and feel cheap in my opinion, I just don't like to play as a player who doesn't even looks like himself -plus- the fact that every player feels like an Identical copy.

Players do not look like themselves -and- players do Not feel like themselves.. I think that's Boring and Unrealistic. FIFA09, alike every other FIFA, becomes boring and repetitive quickly.

A good Football Sim should be much more Addictive, like Real Football. I think PES is still ahead in this respect.
