what is your definitive verdict?

I was on here saying Pro Evo has gone downhill whereas Fifa 09 is the game to buy 2 months ago. Many of you thought I was a fanboy, etc. I based by judgement on the demos and videos. Even then, so many of you were in denial that pes is no longer the no.1 football sim.

So I'm back to hear of your thoughts.

PES 2009 is still better than FIFA for Obvious Reasons.. FIFA still feels like a Square.

However, it seems fans of Real Football will always be disappointed, because it seems Konami are more interested in pleasing the Casual gamers, rather than their "hardcore" customers.

New fans of the series will be raving about PES09. On the other hand, Veterans of the series will feel a bit Underwhelmed with the lack of Development in the series, with the lack of Evolution in PES.

Bottom line??

Between the Time where you buy your 1st copy of PES, to when you grow bored with the lack of real progress. Between those 3 or 4 years, Konami are making good business.

The PES Series already has enough Depth to challenge young teenagers, so Konami really doesn't needs to please their hardcore fans.

FIFA or PES?? PES is better.. But really, Who cares? both of them are Hugely Outdated.

well some people are just so stubborn. Either that or they are blind.

If you were to compare PES 5 or PES 6 with fifa 2005, it would be a no brainer that pes was far better.

You are in denial if you stil think that.

firstly fifapro, why should you feel everyone has to agree with you or they are wrong, people play the different games for different reasons, cant you just accept, that actually some like PES more than fifa and some like fifa more than pes

me personally, i feel they have both failed to evolve, and i am hugely dissapointed with both, we all complain but we all still buy them so why would they feel the need to rewrite the whole game, it needs a spark, a new developer, something, its the same tired old game with a few more sparkly bits each version while ignoring the important issues, both games feel more and more scripted

but because i enjoy football games i still buy em , play em and complain about em lol, so i am just as guilty, i do find myself playing PES more, it feels a little more natural and flowing

I prefer PES still simply for the diversity of the goals you can score and the way in which you can use either attacking or defensive play.

When I play FIFA 09, its so slow and laborious, when I break players never pull away from defenders or look like they are busting a gut to get to the byline. It's just too damn slow to be enjoyable.

Thats not really fair isit? you ask us for our opinions and when we give one that is not the same as yours you are not happy.

This is a pro forum and it is likley that the masses will say pro over fifa anyways.

Pro is 100% better than fifa hands down (or up or sideways) again this is my opinion pro still has that autentic football feel which EA'S attempt has not been able to achive.

Fifa is still slow on responsive and very arcade like.

That is a direct answer to your question on, "what is my difinitive verdict"

I prefer Pes 2009 for many reasons. Scoring, shooting, different goals, the feeling of each goal and it feels more real.
Still Fifa 09 is a good game, but PES IS JUST BETTER FOR A REAL FOOTBALL SIM.

Simply:

Fifa is a more realistic football experiance, as in it has a more natural and real feel to it, Pro Evo on the other hand, has a less smooth element to it.

However, Fifa as alwasy, despite being easier on the eye for the casual gamer, after playing about 2 matches i get distinctly bored.

Nothing will ever beat PES Master League :) Its simply incredible :)

i think both fifa and pes are great games....but pes has a better gameplay....i play fifa09(demo)...was good pretty amazing, but u couldnt even dribble past one defender...its like impossible to do....so whats the point of having all those tricks and players like ronaldhino, ronaldo and ohters....????!!!!.....imo, PES09 good game....and a lil better than fifa09

Its all about personal taste really. PES was dominant back in the days of PES3 & 4. Since then the series lacked something and where KONAMI tried to improve it they missed the vital things.

Vetrans on this site will say they prefer FIFA over PES. You can't blame them because they were used to playing PES3 and they enjoyed it. They just feel that the Next Gen versions haven't delivered its full ability yet.

As well as this, FIFA has improved greatly over the years. Its a very very good game no denying that but PES has kept its reputation on becoming the most dominant football game to date.

Im not taking either side of this, but i prefer playing PES2009 purley and simply because of the gameplay. I don't care about licenses really because at the end of the day, in a game you don't look for the small differences you look for the big differences and I think I can speak for many and say PES2009 is the slight better game this year. FIFA is good for a muck around with your friends. Ever since FIFA introduced all them tricks, which I think is pointless, FIFA has become a sort of "Muck around with your friends game". Whereas PES has never changed the skills system. Also 2 modes which has moved "FIFA fans" to PES2009 is the Champions League Mode And Become A Legend. If KONAMI can keep tweaking these then PES201X will dominate for years to come.

My verdict:

PES = Football Simulation
FIFA = Muck around with your friends

I have to admit that when i played pes09 for the first time i was disappointed at the lack of progress made. I expected the game to have come alot further that it has, maybe i was being harsh but it's just because i'm such a fan of the series. Having heard all the good reviews about fifa09 i borrowed a copy and started playing the season mode. Initially i was blown away at how good the game looks, it looks very slick and attractive as all EA games generally do. But after a few games i found it was repetative and boring, and just seemed to be the same old thing over and over again. I noticed the little things like crossing the ball into the box on fifa was pointless as getting a player on the end of it was almost impossible, never mind geting a header on target. Also i found the passing to be slow and un-responsive, and dribbling around opponents was difficult. There were plenty of other things i noticed, but my fingers will get sore typing them all!! It just made me realise that even though there are things that could have been done to improve pes, in my opinion the game play it still far better than that of fifa. Like i said, thats just my opinion and i'll be continuing to play mater league and BAL as for me this is still the best game on the market!!! :D

Having bought both 09 games on the PC and having been a fan of Fifa when i was younger and then PES over the last few years i do think PES is better.

First of they both look excellent and although they could look better i think they do an excellent job but looks are not that important. Having played Fifa 09 quite a lot i find it does improve on previous games and although the gameplay is better than last year but it still lacks. The game also still fells to me like every other fifa game has where by it has a slight arcadey feel to it and i do find that it gets boring after a while and its hard to play through a whole season.

PES09 doesn't seem like its that much different than 08 but i think although the gameplay isn't as good as it could be its still better than fifa and it when playing it seem to make winning matches more about the way you play rather than simply running through the field as in fifa. Also i think the Master league is still way ahead of fifa's season mode and i prefer to actually play through a whole few season on pes where as i'd only play half a season on fifa.

Both games do have parts that are better than others like fifa having better commentary but i think overall pes is the better game.

For me pes is allways about the gameplay, it's just got it in spades. I just never get tired of it, there is allways something that happens that i think WOW i have not seen that before. It's got it's faults but it still the best damn representation of soccer on a console that there is period.

How anyone can say that PES is still a football simulation is beyond me. Also PESFan92 PES previously used to the right analogue stick to perform more difficult tricks, this has been changed to accomodate casual gamers and allow 'pick up and play controls'. Some of the comments suggesting that Fifa 09 is an arcade game are nothing short of ludicrous I'm afraid.

I noticed the little things like crossing the ball into the box on fifa was pointless as getting a player on the end of it was almost impossible, never mind geting a header on target. Also i found the passing to be slow and un-responsive, and dribbling around opponents was difficult.

These are all things PES fans have continually criticised the Fifa franchise for not being. The mantra of PES gamers over the past seven or eight years has been that Fifa was far too easy and aimed at gamers who didn't want to be challenged. It seems that PES is now the game for those who want instant gratification. The reason the passing was slow and unresponsive was because you couldn't play the game and failed to take the time to learn. Dribbling around an opponent should be difficult, this is why in real football taking players on is an impressive feat... if it was difficult nobody would be impressed. Crossing is extremely difficult, and perhaps too difficult, however I prefer any aspect of the game to be too hard than too easy.
