My review on the demo
I played the PES 2010 demo a lot since I downloaded it.
At first I was pretty upset, because I couldn't get the right feeling for timing passes and dribbles. It was a pain in the ass to score goals, even on regular difficulty. I seriously got pissed, because a lot of my PES 2009 strategies on the pitch didn't work at all anymore and the game just didn't feel right. My first opinion was: "What the fuck has Konami done again!?"
As for the slow gameplay, I always preferred slower gameplay (already on ps2 versions) for a better "attack build up feeling" when I develop my pass play. But imo Konami did a bit too much there, confusing slow gameplay with low responsiveness, which is just frustrating.
Now that I have a real, valid experience (50+ matches), I can say that I like the global concept pretty much. They really made a step forward in terms of realism (where it was more of a back and foward in the previous versions, 2009 being a corrected version of the horrible 2008...but still too arcade imo). They did a lot on graphics and animations too. The only real negative point is the low control response and perhaps a bit of lagging on some actions and replays. If they manage to correct this on the full game, I'll be (again) a pretty happy PES series fan...
Now, I play on top player again (as usual) and I'm happy with the demo, hoping the responsiveness issue will be addressed by Konami before the full game comes out. I really feel like it's a new challenge...and that is what I was missing since the next gen versions.
Oh, and I won't even enter the PES vs. FIFA discussion. Beside the fact that this is the wrong thread, my opinion has been made, a long time ago...
You may be a "football game newbie", but unlike others in this thread, you made some good points. I totally agree with you on the "goal scoring feeling" PES 2010 provides. It was one of the things I liked in the early versions and I missed it a bit in the last ones (with me winning all matches like 6-0 against top player CPU or like 5-2 or 4-1 against my most skillful mates...makes goal scoring less exciting and matches too -although I love crushing the CPU and/or my mates, which I will certainly continue to do in 2010, but with new pleasure and satisfaction ;-).
"Creating exciting matches", ain't that what we all want from a good football simulation? Like you, I think Konami made a step forward in that matter, but there are still some frustrating points to correct in the full version, and hopefully Konami will.

Hello all, I'm new to this site, and as the name implies, yes I am a Yank (can't be the only one here, can I?) but please don't hold that against me.
I just wanted to quickly throw in my woefully unqualified opinion of the PES 2010 demo. You see, my knowledge of football is quite limited. I have very few opportunities to watch matches, and I have yet to purchase either a PES or FIFA game. That being said, I know on a gut level what I like, and I know when I'm having fun. And that being said, after playing both the PES 2010 demo and the FIFA demo for several hours apiece, I must say that I've been having a lot more fun with PES.
As I've said, I'm no expert on the game of football, so I've only managed to score a few goals in each of the demos. But of the goals that I've managed in the PES demo, every single one made me leap into the air and dance around my apartment like an idiot. Sadly, I can't say the same for FIFA.
I don't want to turn this into another FIFA bashing post, and there is quite a bit about EA's demo that I do like. But when it comes to creating an exciting match, in which it feels like anything can happen at any time, I feel that PES has the edge.
Anyway, this being my first post, I don't want to ramble on for too long. I'll just say that after spending some time with the demo, I'm really looking forward to the final product.
