My review on the demo

I played the PES 2010 demo a lot since I downloaded it.
At first I was pretty upset, because I couldn't get the right feeling for timing passes and dribbles. It was a pain in the ass to score goals, even on regular difficulty. I seriously got pissed, because a lot of my PES 2009 strategies on the pitch didn't work at all anymore and the game just didn't feel right. My first opinion was: "What the fuck has Konami done again!?"
As for the slow gameplay, I always preferred slower gameplay (already on ps2 versions) for a better "attack build up feeling" when I develop my pass play. But imo Konami did a bit too much there, confusing slow gameplay with low responsiveness, which is just frustrating.

Now that I have a real, valid experience (50+ matches), I can say that I like the global concept pretty much. They really made a step forward in terms of realism (where it was more of a back and foward in the previous versions, 2009 being a corrected version of the horrible 2008...but still too arcade imo). They did a lot on graphics and animations too. The only real negative point is the low control response and perhaps a bit of lagging on some actions and replays. If they manage to correct this on the full game, I'll be (again) a pretty happy PES series fan...
Now, I play on top player again (as usual) and I'm happy with the demo, hoping the responsiveness issue will be addressed by Konami before the full game comes out. I really feel like it's a new challenge...and that is what I was missing since the next gen versions.

Oh, and I won't even enter the PES vs. FIFA discussion. Beside the fact that this is the wrong thread, my opinion has been made, a long time ago...

Hello all, I'm new to this site, and as the name implies, yes I am a Yank (can't be the only one here, can I?) but please don't hold that against me.

I just wanted to quickly throw in my woefully unqualified opinion of the PES 2010 demo. You see, my knowledge of football is quite limited. I have very few opportunities to watch matches, and I have yet to purchase either a PES or FIFA game. That being said, I know on a gut level what I like, and I know when I'm having fun. And that being said, after playing both the PES 2010 demo and the FIFA demo for several hours apiece, I must say that I've been having a lot more fun with PES.

As I've said, I'm no expert on the game of football, so I've only managed to score a few goals in each of the demos. But of the goals that I've managed in the PES demo, every single one made me leap into the air and dance around my apartment like an idiot. Sadly, I can't say the same for FIFA.

I don't want to turn this into another FIFA bashing post, and there is quite a bit about EA's demo that I do like. But when it comes to creating an exciting match, in which it feels like anything can happen at any time, I feel that PES has the edge.

Anyway, this being my first post, I don't want to ramble on for too long. I'll just say that after spending some time with the demo, I'm really looking forward to the final product.

You may be a "football game newbie", but unlike others in this thread, you made some good points. I totally agree with you on the "goal scoring feeling" PES 2010 provides. It was one of the things I liked in the early versions and I missed it a bit in the last ones (with me winning all matches like 6-0 against top player CPU or like 5-2 or 4-1 against my most skillful mates...makes goal scoring less exciting and matches too -although I love crushing the CPU and/or my mates, which I will certainly continue to do in 2010, but with new pleasure and satisfaction ;-).
"Creating exciting matches", ain't that what we all want from a good football simulation? Like you, I think Konami made a step forward in that matter, but there are still some frustrating points to correct in the full version, and hopefully Konami will.

kerozen u'd love the WE demo from the Japan psn store then. It's a lot better than the Pes demo and Kaka, Robinho, and Dinho are in it ;)
Oh and it also has an extra difficulty called Super Star. Check the other thread if you have a ps3.

Is it difficult to create a Japanese account?

Since I live in the US, I had to create a UK account in order to download the PES 2010 demo, and it was a cinch. Took about 10 minutes. Now I might have to create a Japanese account so I can try the WE demo.

GamingAccess PES 2010 Demo Review: 8.5

Of course, the most important review, is the review that each one creates. So, post your comments please, what do you think about PES 2010?

Also, please vote, from 1(worst) to 10 (best), in order to get an average of the score of this game

GAMINGACCESS PES 2010 DEMO REVIEW - 8.5

The Good

* Graphics, very nice
* The game won't kill your computer. I played with the MOTHERBOARD. Yes, without graphic card, just an incorporated GeForce 9300 with discrete graphics, and played with awesome frame rate, at medium
* The menus, music inside the menus
* The gameplay is addictive, feels like playing ping-pong. Back and forth, so fast, you cannot even imagine so many years passed since PES 6.
* Game feels like PES 6, with graphics of 2010
* Implementing and using the strategy is, finally, easy to understand

The Bad

* I played FIFA 09 2 days ago. It was super easy to dribble. I still don't understand why the right stick serves to pass. It should be used to dribble
* When I was working in the Libertadores patch, part of doing the patch was inserting better chants. With a cassette and $5 ticket to the stadium, I was able to record better sounds that these chants. I still don't get it, why are the chants always so crappy

Well, Xavier Baez had the privilege to make the first public review of PES 2010, and give it a score, a solid 8.5. If this game would allow me to dribble with the right analog stick, I would give this a 9. Of course, the crappy chants are easily fixable, as well as the usual adboards, this game will be great once the downloads start to come. The gameplay feels good, the players run ok, not like aliens like in PES 2008 or PES 2009. There is no crappy carrousel music anymore (like the "next gen" PES games, hahaha, how embarrasing was that!)

Anyway, the demo is hosted at GamingAccess, but of course, the link will only be given to a few people, since I don't want the server to collapse. I posted a couple of mirrors at the GamingAccess Facebook page and also in the GamingAccess Download Zone. The demo is in English, and it allows you to feel PES 6, I mean PES 2010, well, it feels pretty similar.

XB has a smile in his face, and so will the community. Trust me on this one, if the multiplayer works, this might be the best soccer game in PC ever created.
if the multiplayer doesn't works, it will be a good stand-alone game, and will receive lousy reviews.

We still need to wait for the final review

I'd be happy with an 8.5. In hindsight i'd say pes 2008 was a 5.5 and 09 was a 6.5 so 8.5 is pretty good. Like many have said, its like pes 6, which is really good. All i ever wanted was pes 6 gameplay with 360 graphics and new modes etc. 3 years later and were are finally there.

I find it really slow to react, I know the players changing direction is slower due to the realism, but even things like passing the ball, I used to be able to get a pass out as tackles were coming in if I saw them, or the old dummy shot (square + x to cancel) just don't seem to work as well.

It doesn't quite feel right to me.

I love the off the ball movement though, passing when works is brilliant, particularly first time passing (just a little too slow to react to player input), graphics are fantastic.

Overall I'm impressed.

Thought I'd give the demo a try again this year but i don't think I'll be purchasing the full game for a second year running.

I've been playing Fifa instead of PES now for the last couple of years and its not until you actually go back to playing PES that you see how disappointing the game has become.

The perfect point and the one i have made to so many people. Althoughthe point is not to compare pro to fifa, but to compare what pro is now to what it used to be on ps2, in that case Konami have gone light years backwards. The ps3 version of pro are nowhere near as good as the ps2 versions.

Thankfully, for this year at least I have the ps2 version to fall back, next year if pro is awful again i doubt i'll have ps2 version to fall back on.

Shame on you Konami

I've been playing the Demo on the PC for about a week now so I want to write my own little review for the demo.

I want to start off by saying I read through part of this thread and saw some bizarre criticism about the game.

I want to start off with the bad first before I get to the good. Having patched the demo and playing 20-30 minute matches instead of the standard five a few of the demo bugs start to stand out.

- Players warping through each other for possession. I'm pretty sure this won't be in the final retail version of the game

- On balls in the air, your controlled player moving in the opposite direction. Again I believe this will be removed.

- In own goal situations it seems like the goalie freezes as the the AI defender tries to control the ball.

- No input after pressing the pass/shoot button at times.

- The weight of the ball at times. I think it's more about using the weak foot plus players position on the ball. I've made some pacey passes while off-balance other times not.

There's probably a few others but I don't remember them.

Now on to the good.

- Players first touches on the ball. They simply look incredible and they all seem to be new animations.

- The one thing that sticks out from what I've read is the response time. But I think that's probably one of the best parts of the game. Agility and Response are important in the game. Trying doing some moves with a defender and look at how slow he is to cut, then try to do the same with a midfielder/striker and you can see the differnce in abilities.

On to the passing aspect, I realize a lot of times when I press Pass the player takes a while because the ball isn't at his feet yet. The players actually try to make the best passes they can by getting themselves balanced and positioned to make the pass.

- The space on the ball, no more having 2-3 defenders on your neck trying to take the ball away. The AI actually plays defense in hopes of you making a bad pass or bad decision with the ball.

Same goes for the User AI, no more CB's sprinting to midfield getting out of position and leading to a goal. And even when it does happen now, your other players fill in the empty space.

- The long pass, in PES5-2009 I only used the long pass for crossing barely ever for moving the ball forward. In 2010 you can use the long pass to even make through passes. Many of times in the demo I'd have the ball with Dani Alves on the right only to see Henry open on the left wing, pressing the long pass has delievered perfect strikes at times to Henry.

- The shooting is much improved, there are times when the player will shoot it with his opposite foot but it's normal since I see it on matches on TV. The volley has been fixed too. Many times in 2009 I held shoot for a volley only to see my player try to head it just outside the 18yd box. They shooting animations are spot on as well, I've scored some dazzlers in the demo. I like that there's more curling of the ball now, it almost felt non-existent in 2009.

- Player positioning is spot on.

- The goalkeeps barring from random glitches make some incredible saves. Julio Cesar(patch), Buffon, and Cassillas are something else in the game. The only way I scored on Buffon in one game was with an own goal!

That's it for now. I think a lot of you are delusional if you think this game isn't a step up from the other next-gen PES'. IMO this is the most realistic footy game I've ever played. That title belonged to PES5 but 2010 is taking the crown and running away with it.

No sh*t Sherlock.

I can hardly bring myself to play the WE demo anymore. The more I play it, the more it infuriates me and makes me want to cancel my preorder. Everytime I go back to it the bad things are starting to outweigh the good. Just sick of players chasing through balls and slowing down or outright stopping. How hard can it be ffs?!

for the record my first goal on the PES demo came via an opposition back pass to their own goalkeeper (from the edge of the 18 yard box), their keeper failed to kick the ball out in time, it crossed the line and was counted as a goal (although the keeper did clear it about half a second after the ball had already crossed the line..)

its things like that which worry me most.

i also scored a goal vs a friend with hizelsperger where i hit th shot low in the box, it hit one post, went across, hit the other post and bounced in!

the highs and lows of PES10!
