Please tell me the demo is not the final built!

Visually the demo looks fantastic and it really gives you the feeling of freedom. For the best part it plays fairly well, but there are some unforgivable little things that I cannot believe have not passed a basic quality check.

The AI suffers from some basic faults.
For example, there is total lack of player runs. On numerous occasion I am attacking on the wing and there are three of my players who congregate in the same spot. None of them makes a run (in any direction) - they just stand there, all together like lemons. I change the tactics to super offensive. Hell, they still stand there and noone makes a run even if their lives depended on it. What's that all about? Players just seem to congregate in specific spot as if there are out on a pic nic.

ANother example of the questionable AI is the way players let the ball sail by them and noone seems to notice. I mean players standing 2 feet from the ball don't seem to register the ball is there. This is especially evident during a pass. A ball will travel a good 30-40 feet literally going through players feet but somehow that ball seems to be destined towards a receiver no matter what.

Also, why are players stuck like transfixed during goalies goal kicks instead of jostling for position to head the ball?

But what is really irritating is the ref's whistle. Not only he is the most whistle happy chap on the planet, but he also seems to whistle before the ball has actually crossed the line (either for a goal or goal kick). You can actually hear the whistle a second before the ball has gone out (or in). Sloppy things like that really ruin the game.

Somebody please confirm that the demo is not the final built and these things have been addressed.

BELIEVE
The PES 2011 demo is actually quite close to the final build. I'm not sure regarding the AI and overlapping runs etc, but I imagine they won't be changed much if at all come the final build.

However from what I've been told, the referee isn't so whistle happy when it comes to small niggles during the game which is a major plus for me.

Hope this helps, somewhat.

I am experiencing the same thing with player runs which is getting frustrating.

It's not just frustrating - it's anti-football! Player's movements and runs are generally OK until the half line and from there on they just stop. I tried changing the attacking style to wings, but nothing happens. This is a major game breaker in my opinion.

Thank you guys, for posting this!! I was beginning to think, I was the only idiot on the planet, who couldn't find the right tactic settings for making my players taking the deep run... :eek:s
I have tried almost every single little thing - even letting the cpu controling the tactics (which very much against my nature of playing...) - but I can't for the love of God, make players take the deep run. I can hold up play for what feels like an eternity, but then I miss out the opportunity on a fast breakaway... I've had some success sending a blind pass deep and then having my players running the deep run to get the ball. But it would've been nice if you could time your pass better...

HAS ANYONE OTHER THAN ME HAD THE PROBLEM WITH GLITCHES/"TIME WARPS" IN THE DEMO?!?!? In every single game I play, I experince numerous glitches or lag/"time warps", where the screen flashes for a second and in the next instance play has moved forward in that second?! It's quite remarkable how much can happen in a mere second actually?!?! ;os

its bad, but the truth is, on PES, player runs have actually never been a strong point in my opinion, maybe thats me, but a few months ago i out in pes 6 and noticed the same thing.

The trick is to use the 1-2 pass when you want a player to move forwards, keep doing it and you have players buzzing all over the place and things start to happen.

It's a workaround, im not saying Konami have it right, Fifa's method of pressing a button to make the player next to you make a run is better imo, but I think PES wanted a system where only certain players make runs (personality and all that). I would say your right and it needs correcting.

i think you have not gotten into the depth of the game. refs dont wistle when you know how to tackle ( not just pressing the pressure button , do you know now the left stick is the ultimate button for tackling and the three type of defence you can do with left stick ?:

there is a huge discussion in http://www.evo-web.co.uk/forums about palyers running and lack of a trigger run button in pes. the conclusion is you just cant expect pes to do what is not possible in real life. all players are given attributes and certain players will act according to their individuality and the situation. you also can turn on cards asking them for some special features ofcourse like overlaping runs and so many ... thats why pes is called a Simulation game.

Someone on WENB who has played the full game reckons you cant change the cards in 2011, mind you, that's WENB.

To me, the player runs are shit, should you really need a fucking card to get your striker to move into space when its obvious there is a clear chance?

I'll wait for the final version and check the cards out, but I think its something they need to look at.

BELIEVE
I have to agree with Tech here.

Common sense comes into play a lot when a footballer has to move into a space, of course not all players read the situations and the game as well but it would still be nice to see more AI movement in PES. Maybe Konami believe it may make the game a lot easier which is something they'd obviously want to avoid since they almost pride themselves on a more difficult but hardcore simulation of football - yet it's almost a contradiction as well as PES is well known for it's tactical and strategic elements. It really is somewhat of a frustration, almost as much as having the strategy button moved to Back/Select.

I actually thin the WE demo is a later code than the PES one. While very similar and hard to notice but when you actually play PES and then switch to WE or vice versa you notice the difference. Shooting is better, the ball seems to have better movement in the air and the player control seems more precise especially on defense. The other thing I noticed is that the ref is better in the WE demo.

I really want to support PES but the player run is a big issue and it must be fixed in a patch or something or else Konami will still lose some fans to fifa again. Sad but true

This is Seabass's take on player run....... please read
http://www.pesfan.com/news/9256173/Q&A-With-Seabass/

Thanks for sharing this. I had not seen it previously.

Well, it is clear that his vision has not found its way onto the demo, because players not only don't make runs, they almost bump into one another.

I have experienced at least a dozen situation where I am building my attack with my outer midfielder, moving laterally and suddenly both my winger and full back congregate in the same spot - and neither is moving in any direction. I mean 3 players in a small radius. I hold on to the ball and wait for one of them to move, make a run, do something but nothing. And this is Barcelona I am playing with. Come on! Don't tell me this is not broken AI. FIFA may not be perfect and may be arcade-ish with the "trigger run" button, but at least it works. Even if you don't hit the trigger run, it's still miles better than PES.

This needs to be patched, otherwise this game will be a failure for this reason alone!

why not just add the arrow system like the old PES games? That worked fine for years!

I noticed the same thing, on some occasions I will attack and need to slow down because my guys won't make runs that would create scoring chances, instead of running to the space they fall back to a defensive/support position and kill the attack. PES 2010 didn't have this issue so why now?

Seabass sounds a bit arrogant about player runs. Come on man if this game has player run it gets a 9 out of ten easy because everything else can be worked around but not player run cause the 1/ 2 or pass and follow play cant be used every time in every situation.
