I'm very impressed with the demo.
Konami have made some subtle improvements, which when combined, improve teh game dramatically. Of course it's not perfect, but in comparison to PES12, this is now enjoyable and a fresh alternative to what was becoming a complete dominance by Fifa.
Firstly, the gameplay looks and feels organic. There are intelligent runs, intelligent AI cover in defense and an overall fluidity to the game, which makes for an exciting experience.
Secondly, the presentation is stunning. The lighting in the stadiums, the shadows, some new animations and the overall speed is great.
On the negative side, the game still suffers from some AI issues, such as players not recognising that the ball is next to them. Also, there are examples of some questionable physics, where a player would run much quicker than another player with similar speed ratings - as if one player recognises teh urgency and the other does not. There is still an annoying animation when a player is in possession of the ball and carries it forward (it looks as if the ball is on a string). The sliding tackles look a tad unrealistic (too quick and robotic). The tricks are too hard to pull off (and suffer from a delay) and turns are still a bit robotic.
Konami keeps persevering with the long and tiresome replays for every little incident such as fouls etc, but I hope they will include an option to skip these.
However these are all minor glitches in what looks and feels a very promising product for this year. The fact that there are still 2 months to launch give even more hope that the game will be more polished.
I never thought I would say this, but well done Konami. Keep the good work and keep listening to the community. You are on the right path.
