I've heard that the response time is slower if you use the analog stick. I have not found this to be true..even if it is, I am ok with it. I have always used the stick rather than the D-Pad. Personally, its just more comfortable for my thumb.

The best answer and perhaps the most optimistic answer is that the refereeing is a work in progress. IMO, PES 2009 had some horrific refereeing, most tackles were red cards. It seems that Konami tried to address this issue and went far too forward and allowed crazy tackles to be unchallenged...
