I wrote this a moment ago in a thread in "Other gaming"- (The official FIFA thread) - but I think it fits right into this one as well:

:shocking:
Yesterday I spent a little more than an hour playing the FIFA 09 demo. I figured; Since I've played PES since ISS Pro Evo on the PS1, I really had to give FIFA a fair chance before I'd judge it out.
Reponsetime is not as good as PES, but after awhile you get used to it I guess. Then I didn't really feel like I could really feel any difference between the different players I had control of - which is one of the major things PES has always excelled. That was until I get to choose Real Madrid and got a hold on Robinho!!! OK! He might be close to GOD-like in this game - but the point is: there was a clear difference between the different players I had control of. Also Diarra as Def. Mid. was a powerhouse who just pushed anyone aside everytime I tried to tackle with him.
Afterwards I wanted to jump directly to a game of PES 08 - and I must admit - however surprised I was/am: I ENJOYED THE FIFA DEMO BETTER!:crymore:
I'm not saying that now I'm running out to get FIFA straight away - because in some major aspects, PES is still much better than FIFA. I might have been blinded by the better and more versatile graphics and animations in FIFA to obscure some of the elements that PES still does better, but fact is: I'm one of those players who have played PES 08 alot and found it great (despite the lacking edit-mode) - but I found the FIFA 09 demo more enjoyable than PES 08!
Well - maybe PES will restore some faith into my wounded heart when the demo comes out - I guess we'll have to wait and see.
But fact is also: When you switch off most of the cpu. assinstance in the controller setup, so you have to do passing, shooting, through-passes and high-passes either manually or semi-auto, you get a game, that in many aspects are harder and in many ways more realistic than the somewhat arcade'ish PES 08!?
I'm waiting with high hopes for the PES 09 demo...

TBH I've not even considered the "dark side" this year. Bought FIFA08 last year, only because the release date was earlier though, but havn't played it since PES2008 was released. To be fair though I thought it was actually OK, its not a terrible game at all, but personally I think it falls way short of PES. The only complaint I had about PES2008 is the edit mode, this year though its looking like its back to its old brilliant self again.

I completly agree with you, exactly what happened to me bought both only never really played pes 08!

Don't be shocked it's good to see the competion improving, i personally hated PES 08 and converted to fifa last year. I always go with what feels more comftable and enjoyable and what my mates play, last year it was FIFA this year.... dunno yet?!

i downloaded the fifa demo but i deleted it before i installed it. my heart told me not to play it. i havnt touched a fifa game since 2000 and never will. PES through n through

what's the point?! thats like saying im only ever going to go to tesco's, even if the up the price of everything and it tastes like shit im still gunna go there! you have to at least try the opposition even if you don't like it. other wise you can't say 'FIFA is rubbish' when you haven't even played it.

I'm totally with you, I hate Fifa and mostly EA, all EA games and the way they do business, I don't know if people here play American Football, but the best was made by 2K Sports, and Fifa took over with the exclusive rights of the NFL license, and people is saying now that Madden is the best, well no, it's just the only one, if 2K would've made a game this year it would be better.

Agreed.. I personally tend to loose a bit of Respect towards the people who actually argue that FIFA is better than PES.

FIFA looks good, the Animations are definitely better than PES -but- it doesn't Plays as good as it looks. Every player feels the same, the Stats are completely Irrelevant to the Gameplay, and so on.

It may "Look" like a very good Simulation of Football -but- it definitely doesn't Plays like Real Football.

FIFA is the type of game I can play for as long as 2 hours.. after that it just becomes extremely Boring and Predictable. I think that's How you know How good a game really is.. I played FIFA08 for about 1 week -whereas- I still usually play PES6.

PES is just one of those games that you can keep playing time and time again. It just never gets Old -although- Some of us know it could be Twice as Good.

While I agree that PES is streets ahead of FIFA, I wouldn't go as far as saying I hate FIFA or EA, firstly, the element of competition between the two is a good thing, in theory, the higher FIFA raise the bar the more overtime Seabass and his minions will put in to jumping it, Secondly the point about EA Madden being the only NFL game around being highlighted as a problem, suggests that choice is essentially good, It makes no sense then to have blind faith in one footy game over the other without considering alternatives, even if the alternative to PES is FIFA. My pont is that if there was no FIFA, there would be nobody for PES to humiliate every year, and if FIFA suddely becomes great one year, then Konami will inevitably raise their game. Personally speaking though I dont even need to see the PES demo, Because in my opinion it is the superior game, FIFA has been aknowleged and tested and remains in the periphery of things for me, but my point is that there is no point assuming PES is better, when it doesn't take much to know for sure.

I thought FIFA08 was better than PES08, at least it was playable.. Anyways, I'm guessing FIFA09 is better than FIFA08 -so- I will no doubt find the FIFA09 Demo better than anything PES08 has to offer.

But regardless, I take PES5 over FIFA08 or PES08.

FIFA09 being better than PES08 does not makes FIFA09 a good game. FACT still is that PES5 and PES6 are better than any of the Next Gen Football Titles so far.

Listen buckteeth, the goals in fifa are shite, there's no feel of love and care off them what so ever, it's all about bashing that button and scoring that 35 yard driver everytime, that or cross hold down button. This has been in the game since day one and has never improved.

You don't think I wanted to play PES6 for another year while they tried fixing it 2008 do you?, I have mates who play Fifa and I know exactly what that game is all about and it's crap, period.

The only way they can improve it is fire everyone who ever put their names to one of them titles, start over again completely and not call it Fifa.

WOW, that was interesting, i dont think i once said fifa was good or mentioned in any form that i might prefer it over pes. I actually really liked your comment mate, really amused me. . . . gotta love sum1 sticking up for pes. . . . but after what you just said it seems like you might be a closet fifa man, trying to piss on fifa as much as you can so no1 finds out!

And just for teh record my teeth are pretty straight. . .
