Authenticity in PES 3

After the release of PES2 in the UK, the developers were questioned where they would be taking the PES series in the future apart from mentioning more complex one on one play they also talked about getting licences for genuine club names and strips, does anyone know whether anything has been done about this?

from what i've seen and heard about the game (WE7) it seems that there are no new club licences. i'm not sure about the player name licence though.

The FIFPro club license still lies with FIFA, and "Club Football" must have one as well.

Until the current deal runs out, nothing can be done.

As for the names license, I presume it'll be the same as it was, although I wish they'd get a license for the Asian names, because the South Koreans are a bugger to edit, and even when they're edited, they still look wrong.

There's always the dilemma of giving Ahn his full 3-piece name, or just calling him "Ahn." Then there's the 5 Kims in the squad.

It is almost impossible for them to implement the kits and logos due to the high costs involved.
Since they know the patchers can sort it out for us, it would seem even less likely.

Do you think Konami were truly surprised by receiving the patched version? Shouldn't they have been online checking out what's being discussed about their games and find out for themselves about the patches?
Maybe they don't want to promote it too much and that's why they never mentioned anything about it previously.


Nifty, what I don't get is if only FIFA have the rights, how can TIF and the other footie games have them too? Maybe it's just that Nokami are cheap.

PES and PES2 did have FIFpro but that was mostly for Europeans and a few other nations.
There has to be some more licences to buy to get all the players from all leagues.

That and the Oranges who are just being bitchy and don't want any of their players to be represented. It's their loss! They can see Henry and Rivaldo and whoever doing great in videos of the game.

Funny story:
Was playing in a world cup tournament yesterday.
A few players didn't turn up and the organisers decided to make up the teams to 24 and replaced them with the CPU playing as
those teams.
Holland made it to the semi final, controlled by CPU!
If they went on to win it, there was a plan to post the trophy to the Dutch embassy in honour of their victory.
But Holland lost the semi on penalties (as usual).

Konami are cheap, basically. Plus, it's a risk to take. What would happen if they didn't sell particularly well for whatever reason, after splashing out on all the extra licenses? They'd be a bit buggered, and they simply can't afford to take that risk.

Don't quote me on the whole FIFPro license business, I'm not sure, but I know that FIFA and Club Footy have some sort of correct players/kits/logos licensing, as it's in the game. I simply presumed it was the same license. Shared rights, perhaps?

After all, Codemasters are a bigger company than Konami, and because of the direct links to the football world (Club Football for each club) they've got an easy way in. I mean, Arsenal aren't going to endorse a game in which you've got Dennis Gerbkamp and Thierry Nehry up-front, are they?

Back in 1996, FIFA put all of their licenses up for bid. This included all player name licenses, club licenses, as well as all of the other sponsorship licenses. Of course EA with their goldmine that they had, payed hundreds of thousands of dollars to procure these licenses. There was no other company at the time that had the money to pay for them. It's a ten year license, so the FIFA name will go back up for bid in 2006. Before then, other companies can only buy parts of the full FIFPro (player name) license. Unfortunately for some reason, FIFA doesn't feel like capitalizing on their success like all of the American leagues here do (NFL, NBA, NHL, etc.) by offering multiple licenses to different game developers. Also, just with the massive amount of money that EA has, I don't ever see them as being unable to pay for all of these licenses, probably meaning that the FIFA games will see full licenses past 2006.

Hurray for FIFA! In that case if you could somehow use the SOCOM headset to record names couldn't you replace all the stoopid names with the correct pronounciation (like Roberto Larcos). Or how about a set database of audio that you can tag together. Like Roberto + Carlos = Roberto Carlos?

But yeah, there should be plenty of 'other' names which can be used for players and teams.
A few first names would be useful for many nationalities.

And for Clubs, things like
United, Rovers, City, The Reds, The Blues etc.

IMO it's pretty disappointing that the FIFA games have the license when Pro Evo is far better and more than deserve the license.

The dutch are being a bit weird about it all as well!!

That would be excellent he he! Imagine if they expanded it so that you could come up with your own commentary phrases.

To be honest, I would settle for most teams licenced than no teams. Somewhere along the lines of This is football. They have some Premiership, Serie A, and La Liga teams don't they? And classic teams.

While I'm on classic teams, I wish PES3 had an indoor 6-a-side game. That'd be ace. Then they could justify having the classic players, as they could have a tournament along the lines of 'Masters Football' on Sky Sports where football legends (and John Beresford) play. Although in PES it'd be between classic international teams. And maybe a Masters Master league (catchy name huh?) for making your own team.

just a thought.when they name the players for pes2,why dont they add one letter on to the end of the name.therefore making it easier to edit and in no way breaking any licence.

How about they have totally stupid names that you can't make out who's who, and then a button which 'randomly' changes names ie. "Iluklika Hoarse" to "Van Nistelrooy".

They used to change vowels of the non-licenced player names but the rules say something about the game character should not resemble the real player in looks or name so that is why they made the name sound a lot different.

It is confusing.
I'll go back and edit it to see if it makes more sense.

If you look at Brazil and Holland, all the names are wrong, plus the faces are not the real ones but just a couple away.
