BAL Ratings - badly done ??

so, just started my second year as a striker, playing for newcastle

when i have a good game, and maybe score a goal or just have a few good shots/passes, i get a rating of usually 7.0, thats about right i guess

if i have a poor game it ranges from about 5.5 to 6.5 , and thats fine too

i have a game against liverpool, and i am playing as centre forward in the middle of a 4-3-3

i have the game of my life, score my first ever hatrick

goals - 3
shots (on target) 7 (6)
passes (made) 17 (14)
fouls (offside) 0 (0)
intercepts 3
distance dribbled 268

by all accounts a pretty damn good game, and we won 5-0! woot!

my rating - 7.0

hmmmm, so is there hidden things in the game that are used to make the ratings? i have read many FAQ's and posts on how to play BAL to its best, i played my posistion perfectly as far as i could see, yet not even a 7.5

is there hidden mechanics of the rating system? or does the computer automatically lower your rating when in the early seasons so you have something to aim for later on

any help much appreciated

that's messed up. You should have got at least an 8.0. i've never managed to get a 9.0. 8.5 is my top rating (3 goals). Anyone get a 9.0 or a 10.0?

I agree. I'm often shocked by my rating. In one recent game I had an 8.5 when I missed an absolute sitter (skied the ball into the stands from 3 feet in front of an empty net - should have saved and posted the replay now that I think about it) which would have won the game, and then also missed a clear cut breakaway in the dying minutes... Then, in the next game (I was playing for Fulham), I came on with about 25 minute left down 2-0 against Liverpool, and scored one on my first touch, then set up another for the tie (basically lifted the team up on my shoulders). They came back to win, but I only got a 6.5 and not even MIP. The rest of my stats were good too. One thing I have noticed, at times, is that it depends on how long you play for. If you score a goal and only played for 5 to 10 in-game minutes you would get a great rating, but that seems to drop off way too much if you play 90 mins, even if the game finished 1-0 and yours was the only goal. I think there is a lot of room for improvement in the ratings, but that one day they'll get it right. I base this on the fact that it was much better in Fantasista in WEJ-League 2008 on PS2.

ok glad its not just me who thought its messed up, there must be a way to work out how PES works it out, i wonder if difficulty level has anything to do with it? i play on top player

most recent game

goals - 1
shots (on target) 5 (4)
passes (made) 15 (14)
fouls (offside) 0 (0)
intercepts 1
distance dribbled 137

rating 6.5

still very dissapointing especially as it was away to arsenal

as canadian said, maybe length of time spent on pitch matters , both my examples i started and played 70 mins before being subbed and as said before, i am on my second season

anyone else like 5 seasons+ in know if the ratings on average get better?

lets try to work this out, if there is a way to work it out lol

just tried a experiment,

i was starting the match, and kicked off, then did not touch the controller at all, and i dont have auto move on, just stood in the centre circle the whole match, we lost 2-1 to blackburn

and i still got a 5.5! impressive! lol

I have heard that positioning has something to do with it, but it can't have that much effect given the above results... It would be interesting to try the same thing but always hold the automove button. Also, it may sound impossible, but maybe there is some other hidden factor... Maybe even the rating you got in the previous game effects the next one (i.e. "form," but that's not how real life ratings work, so I would be surprised)??? Honestly, I could use some help here. It just seems so illogical.

The other thing they mention in the hints in the game is that you have to "fulfill your role" which means to me that a side midfielder should try to whip in as many crosses as possible, whereas if a CF did the same thing it wouldn't count for much.

Someone also mentioned that you should look at the formation and the attacking arrows and try to follow them; i.e. if you're a SMF like I am and the arrow is pointing in to the center as well as forward, then try to move into more central positions as well. These arrows change from game to game, so it makes some sense, but again, it can't have that much of an effect. There must be something I'm missing. Maybe getting high ratings is actually easier on lower difficulties and we should just accept what we get? But that still doesn't explain the odd strangely high ones I get, like when I missed that wide open net.

I've noticed if you start and get subbed off it's almost impossible to get better than a 6.5. I played a whole season that, no matter what, at the 80th min i got subbed off. Doesn't matter if i scored had 2 assists or perfect passing, never finished above 6.5.

Yet when i came in as a sub i didn't have to have that good of a game to get a 7.0

hmmm your the second person to mention good ratings when coming on as a sub

so maybe the game see's being subbed off as a bad thing, instead of what could be just for tiredness or tactical

will be able to test this better when my players stamina is higher and i can see what i get when lasting the 90

I'm thinking that a big factor might be your percentage accuracy. For example, if you touch the ball 20 times, and make 10 passes, then even if you complete 100% of your passes, that assumes you "lost the ball" 50% of the time. This is a bit unfair if it's true, because it might be counting things like when the ball rebounds off you, and maybe even when you lose a header. I'll test this theory out and see what I can find out.

It seems that the only time I get an 8 or above is when I come off the bench and do...anything!

Good thinking, keep in mind it must count shots aswell if that's true. So if you had these statistics:

Touches of the ball - 20
Passes Completed -- 10
Shots attempted --- 5

Then it would assume that 25% of the time you got the ball, you got tackled or passed to an opponent etc.

The ratings are very poorly done to be honest. An example of this is last night when I was playing, and when I say "last night", I mean this morning at about 5am whilst drunk. I'm an AMF and I played 2 matches, I didn't score in my first game but played relatively well and to my surprise I received a rating of 7.0. The next match, I scored 2 goals, 1 of which was in stoppage time as a last gasp to win the match 3-2, and I received a 6.0 rating despite only having 2 shots (both on target obviously), 17 passes complete out of 18 attempts and 2 interceptions. It really does baffle me sometimes.

I truly do think that being subbed off hurts your ratings. As the ONLY time i've ever got above a 6.5 is when i scored two goals and got subbed off in the 89th min.

Every other time, even when i had a goal and an assist and only had 2 incompleted passes, I still got a 6.5. That's rather annoying, and i've wondered about the "touches of the ball" stat as well. Because that probably wouldn't take into account occurences of winning corners or passes that get deflected out for throw-ins (in which you retain possession).

What I can't stand is when the manager throws you on the pitch at the 80th minute and expects you to do something. We're a goal down and the back four just pass back and forth to each other. Match ends and you're stuck with a lousy 5.0 rating.

Couldn't agree more, that's why usually when I check the formation before the match, if I'm on the bench and I have a poor condition arrow I'll just usually skip the match. I've skipped about 4 so far this season, and to be honest, it's probably the best thing to do as long as you don't skip too often, as it allows your stamina to improve too.

Is that so? I'll try it out. Usually what I described only happens when you're meant as a 60th minute sub, but there isn't a dead ball until into the 80s. It's still very annoying.

So, again, stamina benefits from skipping matches? I know you're supposed to get match experience, but is there a point where you start getting a significant amount of it? I get a tiny tiny bit, if any.
