I have AOL, so shit. I'm switching to Sky asap. If you've got Sky TV mate, you'd be foolish not to go with Sky. Wateva package you choose, they give you a free wireless router.

Yh Sky is great but I cant apply for it because they said there is something wrong with the area I live in and they wont be able to do it. That pissed me off

AOL have finally done something good, they have offered me Platinum and they say they will come out and set it up and even bring someone else to help me get on my XBOX 360/PS2 online...it is a wireless system that is always on. Im really upset with Orange because i rang them up a month ago saying i would like to change to them and nothing. Problem solved for me.

AOL's gay. It d/c so many times. Sky says I can get sky broadband in my area now :) AOL offered to lower my bill to £9.99 and they tried to slag off Sky in the process. But I told them to fuck off (not really, more like 'no thanks').

Well i dont want to change to Sky broadband simply because i cant be arsed. If AOL doesn't work for me with this new package i will get BT  and so on...

Okay, with a computer in one room and another computer in another room, one has Broadband Wireless the other does not. Could I get Internet on the PC without Broadband by using this:

Wireless Adapter

If not what?

Why you may ask? LAN gaming ;) and my significant other would like to use Internet same time as me.

I'm going to be changing internet provider from AOL to either Ticali or Talk Talk.

Tiscali:

- Up to 2mb Broadband
- Free UK phone calls
- Never get diconnected (apparently)
- £19.99

Talk Talk:

- Free broadband Up to 8mb (it's 'free' because you're supposed to be paying for the phone calls, and broadband is just added)
- UK phone calls
- £8.99

I know what you're think ing "£8.99? Surely there's no contest". But Talk Talk was on WatchDog because thousands of people complained that they never got connected. The head of TalkTalk admitted this was because they never expected the huge demand (free broadband? duh!).

Does anyone have TalkTalk as their provider? Is it any good?

I can't say mate, but if I had to choose I'd go for Tiscali, I have a couple of people I know on it and it seems rather good.

Yeah, I've heard good things about Tiscali too. My mate has it and he says he never loses connection. But I read someone's post in this thread that contradicts this, but that post was a while back and it could be ok now.

I just want to know what people think of TalkTalk before I decide. They say they've fixed the problem of not getting people connected, but on their site it says if you don't get connected on time, they'll keep you up with what's going on. That doesn't fill me with confidence.

I guess I'll just do a search on the net for people's experiences. ;)

I use Tiscali, it seems pretty good but it does sometimes keep disconnecting which can be very annoying.

It might just be my computer though.

My 2 Mbps service with Tiscali was very good. I never used to get disconnected and I only ever had 1 minor connection problem throughout the entire 12 month contract. The only annoying thing about it was Tiscali's stupid 'traffic shaping' policy where you pretty much can't download anything from BitTorrent.

However, I've had nothing but problems with my Tiscali ADSL Max service (8 Mbps). I get disconnected a lot - between 4-7 pm every day without fail. And the worst thing about it is that I can only get 4 Mbps because of Tiscali's insistence on bringing their service through an LLU. :realmad: Add the traffic shaping policy and the fact that p2p download speeds are capped during peak hours and you can understand why some people like me are getting worked up about their service.

It's not you, believe me. I believe it has something to do with the contention ratio of your local area.

The disconnection problems only started to occur after Tiscali carried out "essential enhancements" to the Tiscali LLU. Just remember that if your connection gets really bad, you can always cancel even if you're a long way from the end of your contract. Just don't expect Tiscali to take their marker off your line in a hurry.

It'll probably take 6 weeks to move to a new ISP from Tiscali which is why suckers like me are sticking with them until I can find an ISP that'll migrate me within a couple of days.

It's either that or wait until the end of the contract which is what I might end up doing. :(
