Couple of questions

Hey everyone,

I'm new here so please bea with me as I have alot of questions I think you may be able to assist with.

First off, I am playing season 1 of the default ML, I made my own team and it came with the default players (iouga, ordaz, minanda) although I was able to get one decent player at the beginning of the season (i took adebayor). Now, I bench all the old players and play all the young ones, needless to say I suck hard. I can't score, can't defend, its brutal. Anyone know a good formation to use in theearly going with such crappy players?

Also, in previous versions of the game I always go after high talent, I try to get a pirlo and play him with crappy guys rather than get 5 decent players, is this a stupid strategy or should I re-consider this?

Finally, in simple settings youcan choose whether to defend or attack etc, however, the computer changes your line up and places players out of position when you enable the feature, is there any way to do it manually.

ANY tips on how to manage the first season would be greatly appreciated (with default players).

Thanks in advance.

Well first off the first season is a complete bastard. The way I saw it was I need to score goals in order to win so I brought in Dotan who is about 500-600 points. Now he isn't amazing but he can score and is somewhat better than the likes of Castolo and Hamsun. So yes firstly goals are extremeley vital.

Second off I thought I would pick up another player who is better than the tards and I found Park Ji Sung who only costs about 300-400 and his versatility is a huge help. I strongly recommend Park because he can add to goals but also can take set pieces fairly well.

Thirdly the defence and keeper are complete clowns and the best way to counter this is with 5 at the back. Sure it's defensive and may seem boring but trust me it helps alot.

Here is my formation and the default players I would recommend:

GK: Ivarov is the best of the 3 keepers but still a swine. Play him.
RB: I play Valeny here even though he is probably the best CB. The reason I play him is because he is quite quick and has OK stamina.
CB: Jaric is the first choice, hold onto him more than any of the others.
CB: Stein, a bit of a bell end but is fine here.
CB: Libermann his height is a big help
LB: Ruskin is the sensible choice. I think he is pretty good and develops well in a few seasons.

DM: Dodo. One of my favourites and can play this role extremely well.
LM: Ximelez, he can actually cross just about.
RWF: Park. He works well here or as an attacking midfielder.

ST: Dotan. I just let him do his thing.
ST: Castolo, speed is his main asset but if you need a Target man I would try Ordaz or Hamsun

---------------------------------Ivarov-----------------------------
---------------------------------Stein-----------------------------
Valeny-------------Jaric----------------------Libermann--------Ruskin
-------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------Dodo-----------------------------
-------------------------------------------------Ximelez----------
--Park-------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------Dotan---------------Castolo-------------------

or without the good players try:

---------------------------------Ivarov-----------------------------
---------------------------------Stein-----------------------------
Valeny-------------Jaric-------------------Libermann--------Ruskin
-------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------Dodo-----------------------------
------------------Minanda-----------------------------Ximelez------
---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------Ordaz---------------Castolo-----------------

Minanda sort of Central but he is an attacking Midfielder.

Awesome, I was thinking of playing 5 back and hoping for at least a tie. I'll try those players, I had adebayor and he's alright but cannot get the ball b/c the rest of the teams stinks.

Thanks!

That is why I use a Foward plus a creator. Having just a good forward surrounded by numpties is tough graft. Good luck with the season anyways.

Waiting....
I usually sign a pacey winger or two when playing from scratch, then play 4-3-3 with the wingers playing either side of Gutierez, as the front three.

For some reason I'm a sucker for the big names y'know. I can build a team with decent players and fight it out but I lack the patience to form one. I noticed before choosing Adebayor that with 1000P i could get two pretty decent players but chose to take one star instead, basically cause I know of him:) Even when I reach the transfer window I try to crunch numbers to see what big name I can land, foregoing building a good team. Thats why I guess i lose, but i'll fill seats dammit.

My first buy is ALWAYS at least one tall, strong CB/CWP. I can manage goals fairly well with Ettori + Gutierrez/Castolo, but leaking them in back is what does the team in. If I've got money left, I'll pick up an AMF with good stamina and passing or the fastest SS/WF/CF I can find.

The problem is that it is near impossible to fill all the holes on such a garbage team. I reached the transfer window last night and got Ribery for 800P plus the transfer fee, I sold some young talent to get him.

I probably should have spread it around and got decent players but I was 1-2-15 and couldn't be bothered adding utility players. Up side is that Ribery is 24 and Adebayor is 23, sothey should be with me for a couple of seasons at least. I just couldn't get Castolo going (sent him as a loan) Gutierez was a tool (loan) and van de berg cost me games with his slower than hell passing and movement(sold his arse).

I've also a question. Even if I put some of my players on the "transfert list" i don't recinve any offer... I've put the transfer frequency at "normal"...

Not every player gets an offer mate. Most of the guys you puton the tranfer wire are not picked up, a little less than half in my experience. Usually the guys that do get offers are the young gunners with good potential, nobody wants a 36 year old waste of space.

In fact I've put in transfer Larson (Young) and such good rookie like Nascimento which has now 20 years and good skills. In fact I hope to lend them to another team and recover them few weeks later...

I like the loans, you get them back and a little cash. Although sometimes i want the full transfer fee so i can chase more talented players.

What I did which is a little bit cheap but not exactly cheating, is to go all defensive and set the match length to 5 minute halves. Then grind draws, lose/win the odd match. Use 4-5-1 if you want.

You can earn 36 x 450 + cup games (on average) this way if you're decent at defending, enough to finance some decent buying IF you buy young and buy smart.

Buy as many good rookies in the first transfer season as you can afford, they're cheap (only a few hundred each), as well as a couple of decent players (~500), and so you GET THEM DEVELOPING EARLY.

You should end the season with enough cash to buy a star in addition, or a couple of decent (5-700) players. keep buying rookies too.

rookies get tired quick but since you are not paying transfer fees you can have lots of them and rotate, side benefit is that its aiding their growth curves too!!!

They key is to learn to defend, the computer uses tricks and turns like its Brazil 1982 so hang back a bit and don't just rush forward holding down R1 and X. Also change your team tactics to use category B or C defending so they sit deeper, category A is waaaay too dangerous until your team gets good.

The style I found to suit your initial cr@ppy strikers is to make sure you sign good backline players + fast wingers. You can find a few of both in the form of your rookies, just look hard - I got Palmeri and Valeme as rookie CBs, and okondor and shaw as fast wingers, all before start of season 2, all for under 600 salary with no transfer fee as they are rookies.

Then be patient and watch the radar for your wingers getting goal-side of their markers, then hit thru pass and rain crosses down. Eventually someone will get a head / foot in :) as Castolo and Guiterrez both have decent shooting and heading stats.

By the end of the second season your first batch of rookies will be coming along very nicely - my first team at the end of second season has no less than 8 players under 20, all with average stats of 80 or so, and my team stats match that of River Plate. not quite Ajax, let alone Barca or Italy but not bad for two years. I only paid transfer fees for 3 of the starting XI! (Aguero CF, Adriano RB, Drenthe LB).

I played with Espima a good long time.

But I tend to score with my SMF's alot more than the CF's.

----El Moubarki(RB)----Jaric(CB)----Stein(CB)----Van Den Berg(SB)----
--------------------Dodo(DMF)-----Iouga(DMF)----------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------
------Espimas(RMF)------------------------Ximelez(LMF)-------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------Hamsun(CF)----------Castolo(CF)---------------------

Also, when Ximelez tired out or Castolo. I made a couple of substitutions so that I could play 4-3-3.

Get Espimas back into the center a bit more. Replace Iouga with Minanda and shove him up as a CMF together with Dodo as CMF as well.
And then replace Ximelez with Burchet for a potential winger somewhere on the sides.

Burchet doesn't have great stamina but if you're a player that needs speed, he can provide you enough of that.
Also Espimas is a good choice for some long distance shots as long as you're facing the goal in a good and comfortable angle. He basically dragged me through the season with his shots and his stamina.
He's basically been the amateur Tmorautki for me.

Hamsun is pretty strong so he's able to shoot a goal even if he has a defender on his back. And Castolo has the speed for outrunning some of the opposing CB's.
Don't underestimate Fouque either. He's a good SS if you ask me.

PS. Macco is the one to avoid in my opinion.
Only put him in your selection when you're out of options (wich you will be alot unfortunatily, concidering the stamina of your players).

Tips are good but I would never cut games down to 5 minutes what's the point you want a challenge right it's only losing plus the rewards are far better when you get a result you worked your balls off for.

What I would do in your situation is since you have a decent striker.

Mid season negotiations put all your shitty players on transfer (teams actually buy most of them)

Buy Rookies no transfer fee just paying their salary.

Go for a good goalkeeper, then a defender (Kompany is ideal he develops fast, big strong, good in the air plus he can score) next i'd buy some fast players (preferably Side midfielders) who can pass decent, speed creates chances. Well for me it's key to my success. And through ball is can be killer.

You have Adebayour play him with Gutierrez he is better than he looks and develops decently.

QUOTE]

You can make the players attack or defend more during a game by holding L2 and pressing R1 to make them attack more or hold L2 and press R2 to make them defend more this should change the bar next to your players name at the bottom makeing it either reder or bluer
