Empire: Total War

I decided to sell Livonia to the United Provinces, getting 7000 and another useful alliance in the process. Now I could move my forces from Finland to Sweden, for the big attack on Denmark. But disaster - I went bankrupt. Lost about a third of my troops, so I had to raise taxes. Then Iceland rebelled, and I lost the provinces. I mustered a small force and launched a new invasion, crushing the rebels which I found very pleasurable. So now I've steadied the ship. The money is good again, I have no commitments to the Eastern Baltic, and I'm improving my military technology as I build a massive force to finally take Copenhagen. After that, I don't want to get involved in Continental Europe, so I plan to expand into America.

Well I took my time and sent my armies against Copenhagen - their forces were crushed in a close contest, Copenhagen fell, and the Danes were eliminated. With some building and good trade agreements my income is now a healthy 6000 per turn, which will allow me to keep developing and building troops. I've already sent the army that crushed the Danes over to Iceland, from where I'll begin the Swedish colonisation of the Americas. As for Europe, I'm not sure where to go next. I'm allied with Prussia, so I might build my forces and take the war to Poland and Courland, or Russia.

Its about 1758 now, and aside from it just crashing and me losing a few turns progress, things are going very swimmingly. I crushed Courland and took Courland and Riga back, before noticing that the Russians had kicked Britain out of St. Petersburg. So I reclaimed that, whilst also taking Karelia. I brokered an alliance with the Russians while I consolidated my new possessions, before breaking it and taking Archangelsk. After this I struck another treaty with the Russians (for all their provinces their pretty weak). I aim to develop again before having a go at Muscovy, which will be difficult. My main worry is not the Russians, but the Polish, who are allied with the Russians and so are also at war with me. Difference is, they are very powerful.

I'm in the 1970s with my Great Britain campaign and its going remarkably well. I've just finished off Sweden and Poland-Lithuania, and am now about to war with the Austrians. I own most of Europe, with Russia and the Ottomans the only other powers left. In America I've wiped out the Colonies and all the Indians, and once I finish off Gran Columbia I'll have taken the whole continent bar a couple of pirate islands. I've only just gotten a foothold in India with Ceylon, but now I've landed on the mainland and am taking the war to the Safavids. And I'm raking in almost 100,000 a turn so I can't see how I can be stopped.

These Indians are such a bother, though I managed to get the Thirteen Colonies. France got (go United Provinces!) annihilated, and I made it all the way from Morocco to Cairo; even took Jerusalem from the Ottomans but that didn't last very long.

The United States were formed in Philly...and 3 turns later they were no more.

The Native Americans are ridiculously overpowered in the game. Those in the Northern parts of America would have barely used horses, let alone great masses of them. It feels so good when you build up your armies and technology and go back there later in the game with Black Watch, Coldstream Guards and Ferguson Rifleman, and just annihilate them.

Got the special forces edition of this game today, and I must say its really great. Feels really epic when you get a big battle going on!!

I've only played a bit of the campaign mode though, the indepence thing. The one with Jamestown :D

Loving it!

Got one question though, when I installed it, I don't think its actually installed onto my computer, but on steam instead (and only on steam). Is this right? What if I can't access steam? Does this mean I can't play the game?

I've not used steam much, so have pretty much no idea how it works lol

edit: Ignore me, i'm backing the game up as we speak lol

Its 1718 and playing as the Persians. Fighting the Mughals and Ottomans. Empire stretches from Tripoli through Central Asia to North India. My North India army however was routed attacking one of their cities and wiped out to a man. A tragedy tbh.

I'm a huge fan of the total war series. But I will say that I always wait a bit before I purchase it. My reasons are the default game is always shit. I've been with the series since Medieval Total War and I'm a self professed History buff (as it was my major in school) and these games are always so inaccurate plus bug ridden it's always good to wait for a mod from the community. If anyone ever played Rome Total Realism or Europa Barborum (both mods for Rome Total War) over the vanilla version of RTR you'll know what I'm talking about. For anyone who's got the game I suggest checking out Twcenter.com its like what Pesgaming is for pro evo...

I've been playing the total war series since Shogun and I would say for game play and balancing, the original medieval is the best by far. I always find the time to play it. I modded the game a fair bit and released two mods, the BKB Super Mod and Age of Warlords

Right i'm up to around 1760 in my Great Britain long campaign.

I must say I think i'm doing rather well.

I've took over the whole of north america, i'm arse-raping the spanish out of south america, all whilst trying to take spain and portugal from the spanish. I've got France as a foothold there, so its all good.

I've just got all my steam factories etc upgraded, and all my commerical basins are finished, so now should be raking it in. I'm on about 60,000 gold a turn now.

I just need to get a foothold in India, because I need some of the regions for me to be successful at the end of the campaign. Any ideas on how I could do this?

I've tried to bargain Ceylon from the Dutch, but whatever I offer them, they refuse it, despite being great Allies with me.

Everyones at war with me

To be honest I'm a bit underwhelmed. I was hoping for something to do with colonialism, perhaps the scramble for Africa.

EDIT: To be honest it looks like they're marketing this as a standalone game, which is even more disappointing. I'm definitely seeing this as something more along the lines of Alexander for Rome.

This was to be expected, still a bit disappointed too.

Kicking ass (well...) with the Swedes, took Norway early on but perhaps should've waited with Poland/Lithuania as they got taken back pretty soon. St Petersburg is more or less surrounded with idle Russians, gives me time to strenghten its defenses.

Not raking in all that much at the moment, so I'm playing a forced waiting game.
