What about trying this:

---------Robinson-------------------
-Gerrard----Terry--Ferdinand---A.Cole
----SWP---Lamps----Becks----J.Cole
---------------------Rooney---------
----------Owen-----------------

Or

---------Robinson-------------------
-Gerrard----Terry--Ferdinand---A.Cole
---------------King----------------
Beckham-------Lampard--------J.Cole
---------------------Rooney---------
----------Owen-----------------

As you can see, in both formations I've put Gerrard at right back. He played great there in the Champions League final and made his debut there too. This way there is no problem with Lampard and Gerrard not playing well together and we can play a holding midfielder.

I'm sure Gerrard would be chuffed to play there  He only played there in the CL Final for a short while, and has had hardly any experience there in the past 5 years, Gary Neville is a fine right back, I don't think he should be dropped, I doubt Gerrard would do a better job than Neville. We should just drop Gerrard from the team if we stick to the flat 442. Brazil have Juninho Pernambuncao and sometimes Gilberto and Robinho on the bench, Holland often leave out Davids, Italy - Del Piero, so we should follow suit and leave a big name player out of the team. Then, when the chance comes for him to get some playing time he'll have to prove he should be getting in the team by putting in excellent performances. Personally, i'd like to see a diamond formation and keep Gerrard in the team, like this:

--------------------Parker--------------------

----------Beckham------------Gerrard---------

---------------------Lampard-----------------

That way both Gerrard and Lampard will have more freedom to roam, as they know Parker is covering them, and Beckham usually tracks back. By the way, this is for both on pro evo and real life, if you've updated player stats, it should work well.

Parkers got alot to prove before they get into the england sqaud in my eyes, ledley king, micheal carrick and alan smith before parker any day!!

Alan Smith? Why? What exactly has he done in central midfield to be considered way ahead of Scott Parker? King has done well there, but Parker has the advantage of playing in the position regularly for Newcastle, Michael Carrick could do a good job, but Parker is a better tackler and more aggressive.

Smith has done nothing in midfield for Utd and i dont think he ever will.
Like any striker converted to a midfielder its going to be very difficult, ive been watching him lately and he hasnt got his positional play correct yet, alot of attacking midfielders get in behind him alot.

No way is he going to be Keanes replacement!

1. G.Neville is injuryed
2. You got to play terry all the time
3. You cant leave Gerrard out
4. Never play defoe rather than rooney

i said for the argi game so neville will be back
and only put king in as he had a very good game against poland and gerrard hasnt had a very good start to the season.

rooney is there but playing deeper.
Defoe is a class player, better than Owen IMO.

no!
i would still go with my original idea for the formation of england

robinson=gk(the best we've got)
terry (C)=cb (B moore reborn)
rio=cb (solid)
sol=cb(solid) (if injured, replace with Carragher)
scot parker=dm (playing the holding role/makelele role)
lampard=cm (free role in centre of mid-field)
gerrard=cm (free role in centre of mid-field)
s w p =rw/rm(up and down that right hand side)
ashley cole=lw/lm (up and down that left hand side)
w rooney=om/am/cf (free role behind owen)
m owen=cf (the van nistlerooy / gary lineker position)

this way you can play both lamps and stevie G and have a natrual holding mid-filder
i know king can play there, but parker if 10times better on the ball and is more disaplined
i would also give the captaincy too terry
also i would drop beckham, as i think he is too slow, can't takle, doen't really improve the team
but on the otherhand i would play sean wright phillips as he if fast(as fuck), can takle (he used too play right back), can take people on and presure defences like he did for England against poland

and then i would be left with

cris kirkland = arsome (did you see him against Arsenal)
ledley king
jaimie carrager
joe cole = arsome (ENGLANDS secret weapon)
jamaine defoe = arsome (ENGLANDS secret weapon number 2)
micheal carrick

on the subs bench

---------------------------------robinson------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------rio-------------terry----------sol-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------parker--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------lampard--------gerrard-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------sean wright phillips--------------------------------ashley cole--------------------------------------ROONEY----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------owen-----------------------------
