As you can see, in both formations I've put Gerrard at right back. He played great there in the Champions League final and made his debut there too. This way there is no problem with Lampard and Gerrard not playing well together and we can play a holding midfielder.
I'm sure Gerrard would be chuffed to play there  He only played there in the CL Final for a short while, and has had hardly any experience there in the past 5 years, Gary Neville is a fine right back, I don't think he should be dropped, I doubt Gerrard would do a better job than Neville. We should just drop Gerrard from the team if we stick to the flat 442. Brazil have Juninho Pernambuncao and sometimes Gilberto and Robinho on the bench, Holland often leave out Davids, Italy - Del Piero, so we should follow suit and leave a big name player out of the team. Then, when the chance comes for him to get some playing time he'll have to prove he should be getting in the team by putting in excellent performances. Personally, i'd like to see a diamond formation and keep Gerrard in the team, like this:
--------------------Parker--------------------
----------Beckham------------Gerrard---------
---------------------Lampard-----------------
That way both Gerrard and Lampard will have more freedom to roam, as they know Parker is covering them, and Beckham usually tracks back. By the way, this is for both on pro evo and real life, if you've updated player stats, it should work well.
