Match Report:

The opening game of the tournament has just ended, as underdogs Greece, Shocked the hosts, and won the match with a deserved 0-1 win. Both teams started brightly as chances came thick and fast. The pace was red hot, and it was clear both teams meant business, as national pride and a will to win was on show in Dragao. The first chance fell to Gomez on 10 minutes who muscled passed the defender only to shoot wide and hit the side net. The Greeks also had a decent effort from Charisteas saved by Ricardo. Portugals best chance came on the 23rd minite when Ronaldo made a run down the left wing, turned and fired in a looping cross to the far post, where Deco headed just over, it was a good effort from the youngster. It was to be Greece who opened the scoring in amazing fashion, as Lakis found space, and curled in a juicy cross for Nikolaidis who made no mistake and buried his bullet header into the corner of the net with Ricardo well beaten. After the goal, it was all Greece and they created a number of chances, with Nikolaidis remaing an ariel threat.

The second half saw Greece with the better of the play, cutting out the service from the Portuguese midfiled, reaching the front two. Although a fine piece of individual play from Deco, saw his shot screw agonisingly wide of the post from about 25 yards. The frustration crept into the portuguese side and when Jorge fouled Tsartas on the edge of the box, the referee had no option but to reach for his pocket and produce a yellow card. It wasn't only Jorge that lost his cool. Another foul this time from Luis Figo on Nikolaidis saw the referee again reaching for his pocket to produce another booking. The Greeks continued to dominate the play and created a few more chances. Choutos could have doubled the lead with his shot when he was played in, but he couldnt keep the ball down, and fired just over, his head in his hands, he knew he should have scored. As for the Portuguese with time running out and the situation becomming desprate, they had a last minute Couto header go wide from a Figo freekick. As the game came to an end, it was Greece and manager LFC 4EVA celebrating their first win of the competition and a precious 3 points on the board.

An improvement is needed from the hosts, as maybe nerves played a part in their demise today. But whatever it is, they need to raise their game for their second match against Russia, or else they may be bowing out of the competition early, and letting down a nation eager for success. So this is it from Dragao, Porto, with the game finishing, Portugal 0 Greece 1.

Match report

After the first upset of the day, coach, South Dorset Blue, had no desire to suffer the same fate as their Iberian neighbours Portugal, and ultimately ran out 3-1 winners over the Russians. Spain started in style with great attacking intent, as Just after 6 minutes, the opening goal was scored. it was a great header from Exteberria, from a Valeron corner. The defence could be faulted for poor marking on that occasion, however, to be fair it was a good header which was a deserved opener. Disaster struck on 13 minutes, as a mistimed Jaoquin tackle, gave the referee no option, but to reach for his red card, and send off the winger. This put the Russians right back in the game, but it was an advantaged they did not take, as Spain managed to grab another against the run of play. Some great work from Captain, Raul down the left saw him turn the defender, and whip in a great cross for the on rushing Valeron, who smahsed the ball on the half volley into the net. 2-0 it stayed at the end of the first half, but the Russians grew anxious playing against 10 men and couldnt hook together any real chances.

The second half started better for the Russians, as Sytchev pounced on a bad clearence from Raul Bravo. he virtuall rolled a skimming shot towards goal which somehow crept in. At 2-1, the Russians were in with a chance, but yet again, they failed to capitalise, and the goal went the other way on 66 minutes, as some clever work from Exteberria saw him fouled 25 yards out from goal. Up stepped Raul who cooly curled a left footed shot into the back of the net to send the Spanish supporters mad, and coach, South Dorset Blue punching the air with delight. The Russian manager, Afro Joe, could not contain his anger, as a team should not be going down 3-1 to 10 men. After the killer goal from Spain, there was no Russian fightback, as the disbelief continued to the final whistle. The Spanish held on and came away victorious. It was to be a bitter sweet victory for Spain, as the sending off off Jaoquin who now misses the next match is a bitter blow. But overall a good night for Spain, and a bitterly disappointing night for Russia, who failed to get anything out of the game, which was there for the taking. So the game ended then, 3-1 to Spain.

Euro2004- Group B -Switzerland V Croatia, Dr Magalhaes Pessoa - Leira

Welcome to InsightTV the only place on the web where, you find coverage of the Euro2004 challenge. Today we bring you a double header, as the first match of Group B will soon be underway. Also in this group is the big clash of the tournament so far. France V England coming up later. But for now, we concentrate on, Switzerland V Croatia, from Leira.

First we'll go through the Swiss lineup:

Switzerland (4-4-2) Zuberbuehler, Henchoz, M. Yakin, Cantaluppi, Haas, Vogel, Wicky, Cabanas, H. Yakin, Sforza, Chapuisat.

The swiss will be reliant on their inspirational playmaker, Chapuisat to help spearhead the attack with Sforza playing along side in, in a 4-4-2 diamond formation. Liverpool's Henchoz gets the nod in central defence with M. Yakin. This is possibly the best team the swiss can put out and they will be trying their best against a croatian team, which are always here to play football.

NEWS JUST IN:

We are just hearing that the Swiss coach, Jackass, has mysteriously disappeard, and cannot be located....a stand in coach will take over managerial duties for the mean time, until we can track him down, but this is worrying for the Swiss team....amd we are also hearing that the game will go ahead. The stand in coach, T1000v2.0, currently working in the insight studio, will make his way to the ground, and take up his temporary role, as well as get back to the studio to cover the highlights after the game. An extraordinary development taking place here....unbelivable.

Croatia (4-4-2) Pletikosa, Tudor, R. Kovac, Simic, Zivkovic, Kovac, Rosso, Srna, Rapaic, Klasnic, Prso.

The croatians have put together an attacking lineup and will surely go at the Swiss. The attacking duo of Klasnic and Prso should be a good combination upfront.

Match Report:

Well as far as great match ups go, this was definately not one. A stale and slow paced game throughout with few chances for either teams. The best of which fell to Croatia with Prso going close with a header and an acrobatic overhead kick which went over. The best chances for Switzerland fell to Sforza, but one went wide and the other was well saved by the croation keeper. Not too much to report here though, and both teams will need to improve if they are to progress from this group, but with big gun's France and England playing later, it looks like it will be a straight fight between the heavyweights, with Switzerland and Croatia needing a miracle. So a goaless draw here at Leira, 0-0.

Welcome back to InsightTV. we had a brief technical problem, but have sorted that out, and we are back to bring you, France V England from the Stadium of Light, Lisbon, which is shaping up to be a cracker. Some of the world's best players will be putting their skills on display, and the many inter club confrontations will make this match a classic. Now for the lineups

France: (4-4-2) Barthez, Silvestre, Thuram, Lizarazu, Sagnol, Viera, Pires, Zidane, Wiltord, Trezeguet, Henry.

This can best be described as a 4-4-2 formation, but as we all know, the French don't do basic, and it's more of a va va voom 4-4-2, if you like. The players need no introduction, as Zidane and go will attempt to provide the service for the formidable pairing of Henry and Trezeguet.

England: (4-4-2) James, Terry, Campbell, A. Cole, G. Neville, Gerrard, Scholes, Beckham, Dyer, Owen, Rooney.

As we can see from the team sheet, that Terry has made the squad and will start, with Campbell cole, and Neville. Gerrard will take the left side role, but will surely try to get central as much as possible as well as provide service from the wing. Scholes will play inside left along side Beckham, in a flat midfield, with Dyer taking the right wing. Rooney gets the nod ahead of Heskey..his biggest game so far in an England shirt. The question remains do England have the stopping power to cope with the french attack? well Terry has a difficult job today, as he will set out to Mark Henry playing ahead of Campbell. The manager Lami has decided to gamble by keeping terry on Henry in the hope he can keep him quiet.

Well, over to Lisbon now, for the game.
