The utility that lets you install games on the HD is called HDD Dump or something. It states the following in the 'read me':

"* DMS HDD Dump tool - allows you to copy the contents of a CD to a
specified filesystem on the HDD. This is what you will use to get
roms onto the HDD"

Makre sure the HD is formatted and then try using this utility. Let me know how you get on!

Do you know how to format the hdd?

When I press "start" upon booting, it takes me to the HDD Explorer but that only has the Install App menu. I don't see any button to format the HDD...

When I popped WE7JI in and pressed Triangle to install I got something about the install script not being compatible / or not existing.

- Questions & Answers

* Q: When I try and dump a CD I get Error -203

A: Make sure your CD was burnt as "MODE2/XA", and is a plain data CD
(ie: does not contain both data and audio tracks)
.

Unfortunately you cannot install games with this software... It's only for APPS, EMUS and ROMS.

You're right Jumbo. I've asked around and it's only Sega games etc that you can put on the HD at the mo. Have you heard anything about that HD Loader clone? Where can I get hold of it?

In the US, the HDLoader is coming out this week, tomorrow to be precise. They'll start shipping the pre-orders maybe even later today.

The PAL version should be out later this month but if you have a mod, you can just order the NTSC ver, don't matter.

Depends on what modchip you have man.

The thing is, the original SONY HDD will work with any mod, it'll just disable your chip.

PC HDD's work ony with DMS3.

DMS3 is currently the only fully-hdd compatible mod right now.

What chip you have?

Here's the PM I sent your Lami. I'm posting it so that if someone else is having a similar issue they can get some help:

==========================
Well actually, it is possible to play online / use the sony hdd with a chip.

We just have to know what chip you have bro. The best way would be to ask the shop where you got your ps2 at. They must know what chip they gave you otherwise they're a shitty shop. There's no other way to find out unless you can open up your ps2 OR tell me how you disable your chip.

Once you find out what you have we'll be able to help you.

If you have the DMS3, you can install SONY/ANY HDD and play backups/imports.

Any other chip will be disabled by the Sony HDD and a regular PC HDD will not work.

You can go online with your chip if you put into sleep mode. Every newer chip has a sleep mode.

Ok, know what? Put your PS2 into standbady (red light) w/o any disc and press & hold reset for 5 seconds. Then, insert a backup. If it won't play, you most likely have a low-end chip like Magic or Ripper, etc.

Ok, you've had your chip for 2 years and you're in the UK, right?

You most likey have Ripper 1 which I have completely no info on in my database. :D

lol, sorry, i didn't even notice under your avatar. ;)

well, like I said. i can only assume that you have an old chip, at least 2 year-old, so it'll most likely not be compatible with a hdd and can't be turned off either.

if you want to use the hdd + hdloader, you'd have get a new chip.

alright.. so now.. i wana get a new chip... the best one available... where from? and how can i install it? oh.. and how can i remove the one i already have??

Get DMS3. You could go to that shop and ask them to remove the old chip and install the new one.

I abosolutely don't recommed touching/doing anything to your ps2 unless you're a pro or something.
