Fallout: New Vegas [PC/PS3/360]

The only saving grace is that the engine has more or less been left like it was in Fallout 3, so they can't fuck up the core gameplay that much.

They have mainly been looking into creating a better script/story, improving character interactions and adding to the combat, so I don't think they can fuck up the game that much....hopefully.

Just read a preview i'll put the non quest/storyline spoiler stuff in here:

Places:
The Lucky 38 has a restaurant that circles around its own axis.
Another Vegas Building mentioned: "Ultra Deluxe Resort", a grey monolith with a big fountain in front of it. There are half-naked drunken girls playing in the water and a security robot as well as human "military cops" try to get them out.
The "Tops" Building has its own band called "The RAD Pack" ahahahhaha oh boy.
Vault 21 is also a hotel.
"The game isn't set directy at the pacific coast, but veterans may recognize some connection-points, the NCR for example." (!!!)
The Primm casino is called "Bison Steves Casino".
A rocket-factory called "Repcon" is mentioned, and it is rumored to be home to a colony of ghouls. Explosions can be heard frequently.
A place for poor people called "Freemont" is mentioned.

Weapons:
A "claw-glove" is mentioned. Its special VATS attack is a "cross-chop". (Thats either a deathclaw gaunlet or something new.)
The Varmint Rifle has a better chance to score critial hits when fired at limbs.
The "Cowboy Repeater" can penetrate light armor.
Flamethrower moved to energy weapons.
Some mods are mentioned: Laser-pointer and Stabilizer(for lesser Minigun spread)
Standard-modifications don't need any talent, but advanced ones have a requirement. (What exactly isn't mentioned)

Skills:
The new Survival skill influences how effective food and heal items are. You can also create consumable items like stimpacks with the right plans and material.

Enemies:
Golden- and firegeckos are considerably stronger than normal geckos as usual.
There will be wild Big Horns who can be easily provoked. (Not initially hostile creatures?)

Other:
Stiff animations are mentioned. Obsidian told them they improved them, but the reviewer noticed no difference.

Anyone getting this tomorrow?

I can't wait. I think I'm gonna wait and see what people think of this before I get though. Nevertheless I really enjoy(ed) Fallout 3.

I would be if I could afford it =[ tbh though, as I said earlier in this thread, it's gonna have to be amazing to top Red Dead redemption.

RDR spoiled me with its graphics, open world environment et al, and is my GOTY. I loved Fallout 3, but I don't think enough has been done to progress this ahead of FO3, and seems to be more of a sidestep rather than an advancement.

Quite enjoyed FO3, will be picking this.

Damn so much too play, RDR Undead Nightmares, Smackdown 2011 and Fable III, all next week too.

Was it only me that didn't really enjoy Fallout 3? To be fair I didn't give it THAT much time...I rented it for a week or two, but I kept getting stuck because I couldn't kill stupid pig things.

That being said, I'm looking forward to this one, just don't know where I'll find the time between FIFA, Fallout & COD:Black Ops

Ive seen a few glitches. But nothing as bad as some of that lol.

Ive played nearly three hours and not completed alot tbh. I keep getting side tracked with searching for stuff lol but it pays off, Ive got some good weapons lots of ammo and about 1000 caps.

Im now 11hrs in. Done a fair bit, well it seems like ive done a fair bit but not reached the strip yet.

One bug, nothing major but im wearing the special Vault 13 outfit you get when u pre-ordered from game and the belt/shoulder strap is transparent and i can see right throught it! Nothing major but its a bit annoying lol.

Im liking all the different groups of people, Ive stuck to the NCR and im hated by the Legion guys. Im average with everyone else.

The thing i love about this game is that there is more than one way to complete a quest, it all depends on what type of person your character is.

I will be getting this next week. Can't wait for it, been holding off buying it but been reading so much about it and it just sounds awesome, and will warrant at least 3 or 4 playthrough to see every mission due to the choices you make during the game.

It is a good game if you look past the glitches, the short main story & the fact that like in Fallout 3 once you complete the main story It's game over, irrespective of how many side quests are still open. Here's hoping for some DLC to open it up again akin to the BOS one for Fallout 3.

Despite it's failings, the interaction with your tag along buddies can be entertaining, I stuck with Boone (from Novac) for most of the playthrough, with him eventually opening a mission strand through conversation. I'm guessing the same applies for all accomplices.

Feel, I have to say the next bit, but will put it in spoiler tags...

The strip is pretty crap. Broken into 3 separate, small areas with loading in between each one? Frustrating as hell

Yeah each companion has their own missions and open stuff up, plus there are 3 mission strands for a decision you make going towards the end of the game.....

Whether you side with the yes man, ncr or Caesart

DLC will definitely open up more areas of the map and I assume like F3 will let you play after the end of the story. There is a location in the map where there are metal sheets creating a wall with "turn back courier" written on it. People assume this is where the DLC will open up.

Thinking of getting this with my birthday money; worth it lads?

How does it rank up against its predecessor, the excellent Fallout 3?

Yeah, if you enjoyed Fallout 3 then I'd say definitely. The only negatives really are the short main story and the fact it feels more like Fallout 3.25 than anything new. Still well worth a punt though.

It is happening again
It does freeze quite a bit, well it does for me at least. Its one of those games that you can play for ages and not actually get anywhere. I've amassed over 50 hrs on it, still not close to completing the main quest, still lots of places to visit, lots of side quests to do, still terrified of Deathclaws :eek:hmy:

Not had many freezes on the 360 version.

As for deathclaws, the bastards hunt in packs. So much harder than the 1-on-1's from 3. Still, levelled up with a modded sniper rifle & Boon as a sidekick makes for light work.

It is happening again
The first time I came across them, I was with Boone. Was at quite a low level and about 4 of them pounced on me. I got slaughtered! I'm like level28 now and still afraid to go to the are where they all live!

lol..I stay away from the deathclaws. But i might be able to handle them as i was strong enough to fight my way through the legions camp and kill Caeser.

I found the Legion camp pretty easy to be honest. There weren't too may enemies and the ones sparring didn't bother to attack even when I got up close, until I started shooting directly at them that is.
