If you had to negotiate your own contract, surely you'd just want £0 a week so you'd get more wage budget on players. So that'd be a crap idea.

Grrr....I spent a good hour working on a tactic in FM2005, a 4-1-3-2 which saw me do extremely well for Milan, River Plate and Red Star Belgrade in the same game. Couldn't use the tactic with a Russian second division club I was also in charge of as the players clearly couldn't pass the ball, defend or do anything useful.

However, using the tactic in 2006, not only do I get a lot of chances (12-50 per game, as in FM2005 although rarely over 30), but so do the opposition. In 2005 against some teams I'd only concede one shot on target, let alone a goal. In 2006 its like a free-for-all, hence a 2-1 away defeat to, of all teams, Sporting Lisbon.

Obviously, that's going to happen with a new game, but I'm going to miss the tactic as the right-sided central midfielder (who would run out towards right wing) was always the star midfield performer and would always have an average rating over 8.00 in any season.

*sighs and goes back to the drawing board, despite his 4-4-2 tactic working relatively well*

EDIT: Have had to edit this post three times for grammar. Clearly not a great morning.

In 2006 aswell I chose Chelsea once and I set up their formation to what they use in real life, that 4-1-2-2. And in friendlies it proved that it was a great set up, but then come competitive games and then it was hot and cold, there was no consistency. Maybe because I set my team as attacking minded, so I changed it to ultra defensive and then to normal but then I wasnt scoring at all, its a challenge to get a good formation like. I got that good formation when I chose Man Utd however, with a simple 4-4-2.

A classic achievement I had in CM4 was when trying to play Milan's real-life 4-4-2 diamond formation. I was in mid-table in the league and losing 3-0 at Newcastle with half an hour left. I changed to an attacking 4-4-2, beat Newcastle 4-3, won my next game 7-1 and went on a ridiculous run of results which at the end of the season left me only one point behind Juventus who had previously held a nine-point lead over me and barely slipped up as they were getting similar results using a similar formation. Won the European Cup and then Juventus and my Milan ripped the entire division apart the following season, and had some hugely entertaining matches. SI games will continue to follow this trend all the way through. There's always a tactic which is great for a specific good team, and a few more which are good for nearly all of the good teams - teams who are able to play the ball around well and defend well.

I think that my CM4 had a fault in it, because I chose Inter and when I set the attacking mentality to 'gung ho' They were scroing everywhere, and I was rarely beat. Crespo, Kallon, Recoba & Vieri netted more goals than games... was that the case in you're CM4, Sweey?

For Alexander Kerzhakov at Zenit St Petersburg, yes. We won the European Cup largely thanks to him and my ridiculously good winger Sergey Vasyanovich who had acceleration, pace and crossing of 20 - and crap other stats.

For Milan I had it set to very attacking at home, and gung ho away and would get very good results. It certainly did seem to have a fault in it as the 4-4-2 felt like a 'super tactic'. Juventus, controlled by the computer, certainly felt like they used one, and Inter would switch to one in the second season.

To some extent FM2005 was flawed similarly as I was running away with the Argentine, Italian and Sebian titles in the same game - albeit with good sides although Red Star were supposed to be inferior to Partizan. I might just be good at the game, but I don't think that's all it is. A lot of it simply comes down to tactics and then you can sit back and relax.

Aye you need the best formation for you're team, then its just a matter on how good you're players are...

CM4 was a legend!
Hopefully in FM2006 they make the results a lil bit more realistic. I was Hull and I beat Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal!

But it is possible for Hull to beat them, just hugely unlikely. They can't remove all of your chances of doing it, so at sometime, somebody is going to find the right tactic etc.

Aye Hull could beat big teams, nothing is impossible. Just have to find a click...

Aye thats true. CM5 is hugely un-realistic. I have it on PS2 and a youth player (Peter Ramage) is better than Boumsong!!! But there is one good Argentine team on it called Tallares (Cordorba). I'll see if they're any good on FM

They're not supposed to be particularly brilliant. Beyond the likes of Independiente, San Lorenzo, River Plate, Boca Juniors, Velez Sarsfield and Newell's Old Boys there isn't much to write home about. IF I remember correctly, and I may not, Talleres did have a good run for about 6 games at the start of one of the stages a while back and were top. It didn't last and CM5 seems to have decided that those 6 games made them better than all the others. Again, I may be ever so slightly out or have dreamt it but I'm sure I remember seeing it.

CM 4 was magic! From the second season I won every time the CL with my home team AA Gent.

Bought always Odemwingie, REYAD (the king, hopes he will be in FM 2006), Porhalsson, Oskarsson, Devine and Halfraesson (very difficult name)

Egyptian and Iceland players were unbelievable in CM 4.

I've played the beta version of FM 06 yesterday and seems to me that the stats are low. I mean there is no more perfect player. I've seen the stats of Drogba, Robben, Gudjohnson, Crespo, Makalele, there were not low, but they were not superb eather. Seems good to mee, is very realistic.

Perhaps they should be realistic in this with the transfers. Crespo. Just beacuse Chelsea loaned him out doesnt mean they would accept a £130,000 bid from West Brom from him

Aye there were alot of realistic transfers on FM... theres some half decent players too on the transfer list. Its a bit crazy but 2006 will be a real piece of work...

Seriously if anybody needs a young goalscorer in the new fm sign Frederico Nieto. He is at loan at Rangers and scores loads, so far he has featured in 8 matches for me and has scored 14 goals.

Btw could anyone tell me what's happened at Insight:mellow:
I logged on and it usually says you have something like 1000 new posts but it just says 'new posts' now? Also peoples avatars don't show and the point display has vanished?
Is this just happening with me or what??
