Thanks for letting me know about R1/2. I never knew it affected free-kicks and just used up/down.

I'd just like to add that the sooner you press your directional buttons (possibly R1 and R2, I'll have to try) after your first press of the shoot button :square: the more power you can use.

I was practicing free-kicks in training and I was taking a few from the same position each time.
I attempted one free-kick, the power display went just over half way, it went over the wall, and the keeper saved it (just). I attempted the same free-kick again and lined up so it pretty much went to the same spot but put it a little further into the corner. The power I used was exactly the same but my fingers on the directional butons was much faster and my kick hit the wall half-way down.

I have had free-kicks on target and in the back of the net from 25m with Rivaldo and Beckham (but any high level freekick taker will do, try Didu from Classic Brazil) where I had atleast 3/4 on the power display. When you get it right the ball just flies.

It works better for free-kicks when you need to press 'up', but it works ok sometimes when you press 'down'.
Be careful not to press the up/down button at the exact same time as your first press of the shoot button or even worse before you press it because it will ruin your shot.

hitting the bar is good! whoever said that... at least its not going miles over, or hitting the wall. the walls the worst one of all. if you keep trying you'll be fine :)

every freekick i take now is on target for the top corner :) usually they get saved but that will change once i figure out how much to curl i should compensate for

free kick takers i can now score with:

zidane
kewell
harte

er yeah....you can ...25-30m are the long-range free-kicks and anything that is 20m or less is close range.

The Spikiest maracca
but you cant score free kicks from further out as you could in PES2.Shoot from 37m in PES2 you might get a goal.In PES3 its just headed away.
Ive noticed the curling and how far the free kicks out are, are much better in WE7. They are like PES2 free kicks. GREAT!!! :D lol

Nice Guide!!

just to add a little bit....

i read from a FAQ that says that holding down the :x: button after the ball is striked will add more dip to the ball... i tried it and found it quite useful... maybe the dip is psychological??... can someone else can try it out and prove whether this is real or not?

You say the shoot button generates the power for the shot, this infact is not true.
If you do the free kick tut in the game it says it is for Height in free kicks not power.

free-kicks are only bad in pes3 if you are no good at them ;)

Agreed, when I took my first one on PES 3 I really thought they'd taken a step back, and I was in a mood that I couldn't score them after being a free kick specialist on PES 2 (I'd play for a Free Kick as I was more likely to score them but then my mates just always backed off me and let me dribble in circles :() Anyway now I've got used to them I must say they are excellent I don't score as much but it is more realistic and it's nice to have a challenge. I scred a screamer with Mostovoi yesterday and was proud which is obviously a good thing.

That's a good guide I wish it had been there before I learnt to take Free-Kicks :p
