Oh Yeah Larssons Words About Most People Buying A Chip And Chipping Being Because Of Downloading Games Is Correct... Most Peoples Attitudes Is Why Pay When U Can Get For Free Or A Cheaper Price!!! I Personally Disagree And Would Only Get Imports Such As We7 Which I Have Got...

Chips Can Cause Problems With The Ps2 Bios If They Are Fitted To A Version Of The Ps2 That Is Not Compatible With Them... So Yes There Is A Danger And Plus U Can Forget Warranties With Sony Coz They Go Out The Window Too.... I Wouldnt Get My Ps2 Chipped... The Only Thing I Would Do Is Get The Flip Lip Modification Or The Slide Card And Swap Discs As These Seem Better Solutions To Playing Patched Ps2 Games...

Good point there with the different versions of console and chip, but not correct though ;), or I should better say not quite complete. As most of us know there are a lot of different PS2 models. Eg mine is V3. And there are different versions of chips, so you have to find a chip which fits into your console. If you install a chip created only for V3 in a V9 the console wouldn´t get damaged, the chip simply wouldn´t work. But normally that´s not a problem because, like I said on page 1 of this thread, you shouldn´t do it for yourself if you´re not experienced in these things, so what you do is to sent your console to a game-shop, and they find automatically the best chip for your model. Also, like I said, you get normally 1 or 2 years warranty from the game-shop, if your console gets damaged within this period without your fault then you get it repaired for free. It´s a standard-service, nothing special. I know a little bit about these things coz I know a lot of people who are working at www.gametop.de, the worlds biggest chipping-shop.
As an alternative to chipping, which is expensive, I would take the flip top, but NEVER the slide card, it´s just a piece of shit, nothing more, the slide card is the real console-killer, gametop.de receives consoles which were damaged by the slide card every day for repairing, mostly the CD tray is damaged, sometimes even the laser. Plus the slide card uses only the old knife trick, so I don´t see any reason for paying for the slide card if you can easily use a knife or sth like that and do it for free.

Yes, indeed chipping costs a lot of money, but I think the flip-top has a acceptably price.
Lucky guy that mate with the jap console, jap consoles work with 100V, US with 110-120, it´s quite easy to find an adaptor for the US version, but it´s damn hard to find a power converter for the Japanese one, and they´re quite expensive from what I´ve heard.

I got my chip (a DMS3) installed after my warranty ran out and I've never looked back! As far as I'm concerned chipping your PS2 is the best thing since sliced bread. Now I can play patched games (copied from my original PES3 I might add!) and I fu%&in' lovin' it! Chip away boys, well recommended!

The DMS3 is the best chip, it´s available for every PS2 model I think, even for the old V3´s. Here in Germany it costs 120 Euro incl. installing.

NOOOOO PONY!! Chipping isnt worth the price of a ps2 when it stops working!!

Whats this for crap? Why isnt worth it? When you let your PS2 chip by a professional nothing is wrong. Cause when your chip isnt working you just go back to him. And he will fix it. And i totally agree with Mumpleaser! Its the best since sliced bread:D

I spoke to several chipping experts and it seems that the v9 ps2 is more vulnerable to 'overburn' than others, but if you use a chipped ps2 to play cdr the laser will inevitably become damaged as it has to work harder to read the data. FACT. You chip your console, only the chip is guranteed by the chippers themselves, not the laser, wonder why that is?

That´s correct Giggsy, it´s called piracy ;)
But, like I said, that´s not the point of chipping the console, as long as chip-producers have this argument nobody can´t make a law against it (except Australia :p)
Although it´s quite obvious that 90% of the people chip their console only in order to play downloaded games and not imports :D

well actually, just to clarify, the federal court of australia declared recently that chipping a psx/ps2 cannot be deemed illegal due to insufficient evidence presented by sony in a court case. either way, the consumer is free to do as they please with the console, so long as copyright laws are not infringed. in effect, chipping a ps2 is not illegal, it is simply the action of copying games for personal use and/or selling copies to others

Alawode - when it stopped responding had a joypad or a memory card worked its way loose somehow? If you insert/remove peripherals while the machine is on, you can risk cracking the motherboard which is goodnight vienna.

alawode: You need a break man..maybe you should stop telling us that you`re the best at PES3 or whaveter. :) now go play Tetris :D ..

In one point I agree with Giggsy11 .. people do alot of things to their PS2 just to play an import.. knife tricks/fliptops etc..even installing a modchip can be very dangerous if you don`t know what you`re doing..

I as well am using DMS3 / v2.0 modchip this was $399
a brand new not used or refurbished PS2 console already pre-modified by a professional.. works like a charm..

pletikosa,

As long as there are legit reasons for modding etc, they can't quite outlaw them but just make it more awkward.

I heard of an Australian Rules game on the PS2, and the same developers are working on a GAA version: http://www.gamer.tv/page/feature/23101231.htm

Have you seen or played AFL Live 2004?

AFL 2003: http://ps2.ign.com/articles/367/367177p1.html?fromint=1

i'm not really into afl - perhaps its because the swannies amount to shit all every year :D - damn those good for nothing chokers
but yes to answer your question... no... i haven't, is it any good?

"I don´t think it´s illegal in England, the aim of chipping your console is not to play filesharing-downloaded games, but to play imports"

hehe ..this is usual excuse, but as we all know, chipping is - of course - for playing copies, coz is low-costing, and well..you can pley import games as well :)
2) my PS2 is from first serie released in europe, is chipped and never have any sort of problem with it giggsy.

It looks like it could be fun, it always looks great on TV.

I'm really waiting for the GAA variation that they've got in development, and looking for any indication, based on AFL 2004, of how good or bad it might be.

I'll just have to keep an eye out for the release date and take my chance.

Never mind about the Swans. :)
