as for it being not like a patch, mate have you seen what guys like you and me can do theses days with modding, take unreal tornamount as a perfect example, wer talking about programmers at konami with years of experience
Yeah, but modding is a totally different type of programming. Modding is mainly scripting, which is built in the game engine.
I used to do alot of Quake 2 modding (showing my age) but it was great and had the API to do so. PC's aside, consoles are so rigid and there's not a hell of alot we can do with them, and I'm not sure console developers have become accustomed to making changed to console games, unless they are bug fixes as was shown last year.
I don't doubt they could've done some of the things via a patch, but the overhaul of the physics engine was huge. I think that's where Konami's main effort has gone actually.
I think the reason these harsh comparisons are being made is because FIFA have concentrated on adding finishing touches and new features (the Adidas Live) for instance. Konami have heavily invested in an overhaul of the ball physics and the player modelling, and to some extent the CL and BEL mode. FIFA is by far the more polished all-round product. In a way, FIFA, i think have played it safe and built on what they know works whereas Konami have taken a huge risk because essentially PES players are having to relearn the game (from what I saw in the demo) due to the changed engine. I was very frustrated when I first played the demo, but after about 50 goes, I started to like it and realise that perhaps it's paying off.
I've definetely had my pissed off moments with 09 so far, and generally, it does take me a month to warm to the any new evo. I must confess though, I can see why many people are upset. I would just say, give it a very long chance.
