Great post Cellini.
I play on 5* too and I have to agree that the only way to do well is to play a calm, patient game and don't try to sprint forward every time you get the ball, slow build up play pulling the opposition out of position seems to work a treat for me.

It is really frustrating that the CPU messes with your passing, shooting and tackling but I have found that it seems to only really have a bad effect when I rush things.

My biggest problem is coming flying out of the traps from the kick off all fired up and ready to give the opposition a right good thumping only to concede in the first few minutes and spend the rest of the game chasing and rushing around trying to get that all important equaliser & then finding myself getting impatient & flying into tackles & ending up with 10, 9 or 8 men and the CPU running away with the game - I rarely use slide tackle now !!!

Also, great point Zyg, starting off as a top team against lowly opposition is a great way to build up confidence and develop a strategical approach, concentrating on playing good football, do that for a few games and the results will come in the end !!!

Stick at it guys, winning the league and cup on 5* really does feel like a great achievement - although I have to say "the wife" didn't really share my enthusiasm or excitement when I was jumping round the living room at 4 in the morning !!!!! :D

man do i hate teams that just constantly sprint to the corners to do crosses

most of the time you can run next to them and cant take the ball away, very often if you do you get a foul/carded.

quite annoying

Im a 5* master! ;) :p. I mean what i did was make sure I could score at least say 5 goals a game before changing to the next level.

a good way of practising is playing friendlies with random selected teams....cus when you have to play with a bad team you improve a lot due to the worse quality of the players so you have to do a lot of passing not just running....when you play with a good team always try to play very realistically , besides existing a tendency of playing more indivudually, but if you play less individually with those kinds of teams (Milan, Madrid etc) the individuals, the best players will surpass, will become more noticed and they will make the difference in small details of great importance just like in real life....just play real football and you'll get there!!! :D
i've been playing with 5 stars since i bought the game...and there seems to be no problems...at the beggining...first 5 matches i couldn't hit the goal...but then i started practising and today i can play pes3 pretty well i guess :p

only thing thats pissing me off now is the refs and their freaking cards. there are TONS of tackles that if anything could be a foul and i end up getting RED CARDS...its total sh1t and i dont see how this got through play testing....cards come left and right like they are going out of style.

well just don't make so many sliding tackles. I know it seems hard but just use pressure 1 and 2 to usher the ball towards the touch line. Also don't dive in with pressure 1 wait until he exposes the ball to you.patient defending is the key.

yeah i dont slide that much, and it really isnt from behind, its from good positions, its just odd how often you get a card pulled

i mean you can get destroyed in the box and not even get a penalty but you can bump a guy and get a yellow

pretty crazy

I know my game has jumped leaps and bounds by learning to win with the default master league team. I break out the 4-5-1, play the wings. You have to pass, cuz these guys dribble like Tomas Repka.

i couldn't agree more....refereeing is something they should take more into account on pes4...i don't know...at least less cards...sometimes i get cards for nothing...for example for pressing :x: when trying to take the ball from an opponent...freaking annoying
