I have the 360 version, but I also started on Top Player, however I set the "Master League Level" to Normal since I knew Fatigue will be an absolute bugger to maintain. I created a custom team "Athletico Benavente" (yes, it's really a place in Spain, that's the beauty of it), but I chose a few players with the points given at the start. Hangeland who plays CB, Miguel Veloso who occupies the DMF area, Belluschi who sits just in front of him at CMF, and Ben Sahar as my main striker. None of my players are of great standard, mainly because there's a limit to what you can spend at the start (which is great really).

However I do agree that the ML default players are ridiculously slow in comparison to the computer. On the flip side, the default players are on the same level as previous PES's though, it's just that opposition in the ML seem to have their stats boosted, and can dribble at twice the speed when playing you. I've played around 6 or 7 games and won a few and lost a few, I'm currently 14th in Division 2, which is quite decent so far. Anywho:

The formation you play depends on the players fit and the opposition's formation. I usually find a basic 4-4-2 works best, with a DMF, and a CMF playing alongside each other, with the CMF pushed a little further forward. I find Guiterrez, Ordaz and Castolo to be the best CF's from the default selection, so it's probably best rotating between them. Possibly the most important factor though is Teamwork, by pressing "Y" on my controller, or maybe "Triangle" on the PS3 controller. Make sure the team has as higher teamwork ratings as possible, and with the right preperation, it'll boost confidence and you should be able to scrape wins and collect points from draws. You'll still lose a few but then again, every team does. But if the opposition plays a 4-3-3, it's maybe best to play 4-5-1 to shut out their midfield and supply to their strikers.

Excellent advice by Hunter there. Let me add a couple of more in-the-game musts when using the default team:

1) Pass a lot. Don't try long passes unless your player is REALLY free and unmarked, and the nearer defender is not that fast. Don't try runs or fancy stuff. Just pass and pass around, basically. Decent teamwork is very important.

2) Possession is everything. It will be very difficult for you to even reach 50% (I've seldom achieved that with the default formation) but you still have to try to give them the ball as little as possible, especially as the game closes to an end. If there are no open spaces ahead, in general a good advice is not to risk it --pass it back to a defender. Problem is that with the original formation, there usually aren't any open spaces, so quick passing is the way to go there. If an opposition defender is near a player of yours who is receiving the ball, first touch it to someone else. As crappy as their first touch is, their reaction is even worse, and if you try to control it, you'll usually just lose it.

3) If the opposition is attacking and they're anywhere between decent and great, don't play your way out of defense, ever. It'll usually end in a goal... for the opposition. Clear the ball with square, or, if you have a split second before an attacker closes you down, with circle. Then you can try regaining the ball before it reaches your box again.

4) If you're 1-0 up and the clock shows 60 min, it's time to switch to 5-4-1 (two DMCs preferrably). The same goes if you're 2-0 up at the break.

5) If you go 2-0 down at half time, switch to coach mode and invest your time in something else, 'cause 95% of the times the game is lost.

6) Don't charge at the attackers to regain the ball, they'll just run rings around you and your players will be knackered by the 75th minute. Rather, accompany them without sprinting, keeping in front of them, and when they close in on you or you see an opportunity, try to steal it.

7) As for signings, a good goalkeeper and two decent defenders will be of more use than some attackers. If you must buy an attacker, don't go for a heavy goal machine, as he won't even get to touch it. It's much more useful to get a player like Verón, who can create a play, make fast, accurate passes and take your FK and CK.

You may know all of this, but I think they are good tips anyway.

BELIEVE
Good tips there, I'll have to try the 5-4-1 switch sometime during a match when I'm leading. Problem is, the defenders are the ones that seem to get tired the fastest strangely so it's difficult to replace so many.

Veron is a key target in my first transfer window though, he's added to my list. As you say, expensive strikers aren't necessarily needed as due to the unbalanced gameplay giving attackers a heavy advantage over defenders, it's relatively easy to score if you're patient. A tall CB is a must though, my CB is 26 years old and 195cm tall, so he can defend very well in the air, not only that, he's a huge threat when going up for attacking corners and give score goals.

Also, whatever you do, never give away free-kicks on the edges of the box, because 80% of the time now, the computer teams will score them. Silly I know, but it's unfortunately a reality.

About conceding goals and parries, I found the keeper better when I press the triangle button just before he tries to catch the ball. Seems to work well. Also holding Triangle when the ball is swung in close to the keeper makes a difference Ivarov is collecting everything that is swung in an too close to the 6 yard area.
let me know if you experience the same thing.

Very interesting. I'll try that in my next game.

About Besiktas, I don't have them in my game, so I can't help you there.

I recently played Besiktas, can't remember what the score was, think it may have been 1-1. However I can't really give any advice about formation, as I don't think I can remember what they played, possibly a 4-4-2, basic with a DMF. If so, the best option, I'd say if everyone is fit etc, would be to play a 4-4-2 also. Ximelez on the Left, and Espimas on the right, with Minanda CMF, with Dodo playing just behind him as DMF. As for the defence, simply mix between who has the best stats and their teamwork with one another since it's crucial, again press "Triangle" on the Formations screen.

Remember though, and this is basic, but very important and many people make this mistake, even veterans. Always try and play your players in their positions, you can obviously see where they're capable of playing, and stick to their preferred positions. Because if you play someone out of position, then it negatively affects how they play. They will lose their positional sense and drift about, and will generally not respond as well as if they were playing somewhere they're capable of.

Also choose your bench wisely, and plan ahead before the match starts as to who you might have to replace due to fatigue etc. It really helps.

Q1. can you name me some young players which are very good at improving? and maybe goal machine (but any position, dosent have to be goal machine). maybe like a few strikers, midfielders and some defence and goal keepers etc. but in player category 'D' or 'C'
Q2.What is a VETERAN? and ELITE?

I seem to do things a bit differently to some blokes on here. I always struggle scoring on the master league, and rarely have trouble defending so i usually only stick 2 in defence, play 5 in midfield, one holding, two wide and two AMF and 2 up front.

This just means that there are loads of opportunities to actually pass to players and you don't get overrun when you're trying to score.
Mind you this won't work for some people, i think i'm just quite a defensive player on the game.

The advice earlier about a tall CB is good advice. Make sure they're strong as well, Liebermann isn't that bad for me, just don't slide, and instead "walk" into them and try and muscle them out of it. If you don't have a tall defender they'll score countless headers from corners, very very annoying.

To Hunter: 14th in Division 2? Is it setup differently on the Xbox? I only have 8 in mine.

Q2.What is a VETERAN? and ELITE?

Q1. I'm not that far into my Master League to be honest, not even as far as the first window. But I have already done some scouting, I simply couldn't resist. Anywho, as for Goalkeepers, Akinfeev (think that's how you spell it) looks to be a great keeper, with very good response and goalkeeping skills, and with a respectable age of 21, he's still improving. As for a CB, you simply cannot go wrong with Kompany, he was a strong CB in PES6 also, and for obvious reasons, he's young but is an all-around great player with many abilities. I haven't thoroughly searched for a Midfielder unfortunately, although the important stats to use in an "Advanced Search" would be Passing, Dribbling, Teamwork, (Attack or Defence depending on the position in Midfield) and also a Playmaking special ability, they are the perfect ingredients. As for Strikers, I hear Benzema of Lyon turns out to be a very good striker, he's also quite young so he's already on my transfer list. Aguero of Athletico Madrid too I believe, although he maybe slightly more pricey due to his newly found popularity in recent years.

Q2. If you're referring to status bars for members on this site, Veterans are labelled I guess as respectable and contributing members who's been here for a while. Whereas an Elite status comes about by paying £5, and you get certain perks such as some more sections of the forum to browse in and download files for anything and everything (rumoured).

I'm guessing you're playing on a PS2 ? I assumed that the PS2 also had 20 teams in the Division 2, maybe it's just because their might not be enough room on the disc anymore, as they've already packed the game as best as possible for the PS2. But the 360 fortunately has 20 teams in both the Division 2 and Division 1. I think the major step next will be a Division 3, or at least I hope so.

Two ass-kicking midfielders: Dunn and M. Taylor (SMF, one left, one right).
And AMF: Verón, Donovan, Matías Delgado

Dunn in particular is very fast, very skillful and scores as much as my forwards :D

alot of people have different techniques in the ML.sorry if anybody has already pointed any of this out but dam theres some long as replys there i couldnt be assed reading basically.

i started mine on proffessional and 1st season finished 17th and im very good, beat most online unless lag is unbearable which this time round it is,or they cheat.

anyways ledt it on same level next year but with signings and a good cup run i had more REAL players and this season im in 3rd. always check the free transfers at the end of the season as some strange peeps get released, evra did on mine but the greedy tit wouldnt come to me. look for bargains and never pay full for anybody, trade one of your shit fakeys! buy a strong striker whose good at heading, thats the worst thing with the defaults, there not strong enough to win in the air so every goal kick and clearance comes back at you.

soon you will be heading balls down and into space creating more, and scoring with the head is effective since the team has nooooo pace.

my top tip to buy whose cheap would be charisteas strong with a decent enogh finish and a good header,in d2 he wins everyball and is the top scorer for me.

I just started my Master Leauge with the original members on top player. So far Ive only won 1 game :p and lost 4. Scored 2 goals , 9 against. Biggest beating was in cup versus Celtic. They poured it on 5-0 :(. The rest have been close 1-0 :p. Its tough but once i get a few good players i should be on the road to victory :p.

Quality result mate, it really is.

I just battered Celtic 4-2 at home, however I then got beat 2-0 by Besiktas which certainly dampened the mood. The majority of the time, it isn't the team you're playing against that's the problem, it's your own team, as you can only usually play outfield players for 1 match before being forced the rest them.

Henrik Larsson opened his scoring account for me against Celtic (wahey, his former team, I've just realised while typing - amazing) but the fact he tires to almost death after 1 match is ridiculous. I can only play him every other game, and that's if I'm lucky as he may sometimes have a down-arrow.

Play him with the down arrow anyway, he still scores :D
