My letter to KONAMI

Lol...

Well like I said, maybe if the console players RENTED the game instead of buying it straight off after the release, they wouldn't be talking about sending "F... YOU" letters to Konami... Who, like you said, will most probably laugh then delete...

If I had any doubts about a game, I wouldn't spend £30-50 on it, simple as... RENTING a game for consoles, still gives you the ability to play online, you can RENT it for a day, week or month. Then if you don't like it, you've only spent a few quid, not £30-50...

UK console users should take note of this website for the future...

Considering Konami said online was their priority I'm sure they'll listen. This can't be good for them as people will jump ship. Like me! :dancer:

How can they listen though? Half of the people just set up their PS3 to use wireless, and expect it to work flawlessly... meanwhile the rest of their family are sucking their bandwith dry. No online game can stand up to that.

If it's constructive, giving the settings, ISP, location etc etc, they can help. Otherwise they can't do a hell of alot.

My point is saying "online sucks, the ball is teleporting" is about as useful as a cock-flavoured lollipop

You're making it sound like it's the consumers fault! :chanlaugh:

Konami even said online was it's "top priority". Fact is online is still inconsistent even if you have a decent connection.

You be surprised. I used to send JoJo letters about how I wanted to smell her hair & sing a duet with her. She sent me tickets to her concert!

It is though, I made a simple post on the last page for people to post their connection, setup, platform etc... If they can't be bothered to do that, then maybe they couldn't be bothered waiting for the game a few more weeks if they had any doubts?

I have no problems with PES online. This is why I find it hard to understand how everyone else does... I'm from UK and I played lazoli from US still no lag. So it really does make you wonder what the people know about their ISP's... But when I say this, they think I'm questioning their opinion and therefore throw a fit... :fplm:

I have tried to get online, but it fails, so I can't give any feedback of my experience. I will say that I use an Ethernet cable and on PES 2008 I didn't actually have too many problems either, by that I mean it was laggy but not 100% unplayable every time...

Yup, I know what wireless is like to play against (talking from PES6 experience). My friend used useless and you would get lag spikes ever other second... Even though I had Ethernet and it was fine online with other players...

Just a thought, I wonder if your firewall blocks ports for the ports PES uses? Check your firewall logs. Strange that you can't get online at all. I would love to check it for you, but I am sans PS3 and PES for the moment, however I'm sure the other fantastic people on the forum will help you out.

And its also very true what you say about other people using your connection. I have abig family, and I always had to wait for them all to go to bed before I could even attempt to play. I always played after midnight, ethernet connection, only 2mb as well and it seemed to play ok apart from playing others with a poor connection.

That said though, shouldn't they be looking at ways so that you don't have to have a free connection? I mean they don't even bother with recommendations...

appreciate that, but to be honest I only tried to get on twice, so maybe I need to persevere.

Yeah, 2mb isn't much but it still should be able to handle the demands that PES gives it. Unfortunately, it's probably not possible to give a decent gaming experience if you're throttling your connection. There's nothing Konami, ur ISP or anybody can do about that. It is unfortunately the nature of the beast.

I remember when I used to be play Quake on the PC, with a 56K dialup. They took years to perfect the network comms on that. Also, it helped a great deal if you toned down the textures so you weren't sending as many packets across the wire. I got a lag free game (except when the phone rang) all the time.

I don't lay claim to knowing anything about how PES interacts with the TCP/IP layer, but I'm guessing that it puts a hell of a load on the packets - due to textures, and just the nature of a football game. Your latency will be good (hence the green indicator) but it's the ability to transmits chunks back and forth in the correct order that makes for a good game. That can be optimised by changing things like the MTU and TTL settings etc. However, some ISPs don't support changing them from their default. It would be interesting to see which ISPs are proving the best for this, and try to mirror these settings if possible.

As I say, I'm plucking at straws here, but it wouldn't surprise me if, in an effort to increase network performance, we get a graphically toned down version of PES for online use. I need to get back and test my PS3 or PC but I would

Use Ethernet
Disable file sharing/media player streaming
Anything that auto updates etc

I do think Konami must do better with this because there is no support, but give them a chance - there's loads of new users playing online and they've probably not been able to simulate that type of load before. Wait till the new patch till the toys get thrown outta the pram

The thing that I've noticed with the PC version, is if your logged into the server then tab out of game, you lose connection to the server no matter what. So in a way that's a good thing. As for a free connection... How would that even be possible though? If you have more than one PC using your bandwidth, surely there's nothing devs can do to stop that? Unless they can come up with a way to detect how many devices are using your connection and you choose which one you want to use to play PES, then, if any of the other devices are running you lose connection or your not able to join a game? Stupid idea I know, but really don't understand how else...

Maybe unclefredo might be able to shed some light on that matter?

I couldn't get on PES08 at all because my firewall, even though I allowed the ports I had to turn it completely off to get online... Strange enough though, PES09 worked straight off, didn't have to forward anything...

I don't think it would be possible to do via the software, unless you pre-requested a certain amount of service in reserve for the game. However, the router itself would deal with this sort of prioritisation of bandwidth. I'm not a network expert, but I'm fairly sure there's not a whole lot you could do. Even if you could, you'd get people complaining that PES took up all their bandwidth...

Online play is beginning to get on my tits.

It sems to ME, but I could be totally wrong...

Out of my 16 games so far, Ive gone 1-0 up within 15 minutes in 12 of them.... then, in every game I remember, from about 20 minutes to 5 minutes before half time, I get this sort of "sticky patch" (ooh err) where basically every single pass goes astray and my players run like the contestants in the monty python upper class twit of the year sketch...

then, on 40 minutes, it suddenly goes right again, and I score.

Same for my mate at his house.

Also... would it be SO fucking hard for them to release an update that solves lag. Its the only fecking game on the ps3 that lags like this.

Twats!

This would be my letter to Konami:

Konnichiwa Bitches,
Once again you have failed to deliver. Listen even Heroin addicts have a limit...if their dealers keeps giving them crappy drugs they will go elsewhere....you have been warned if you cock up next year (yes...next year because I know your November patch will also be useless) you will show your loyal fans what a w*nker you really are. FIX UP AND LOOK SHARP!

Sincerely,

kofidee
