Yeh i chose PG as i felt it gave me more control rather than running round trying to get open and the AI not passing to me.

Ive got lebron James doing all the scoring, he does some seriously awesome dunks. Nothing better than sticking up an alley-oop for it to be slammed down by lebron.

My Cavs team seem to always lead the game until the 4th quarter and then they suddenly cant shoot for shit. Which means i generally lose but earlier i did score the winning basket in the dieing seconds ( i think it was 1.9 seconds left :D).

Edit:

My coach always seems to put me in SG when im tired :/

A few more games under my belt and a couple of wins which is good. Still not winning enough though. I'm a starter now and I'm playing the majority of the games. Slowly, but surely my attributes are improving and so are my match stats. Averaging around 9+ ppg.

My last game, I got 7 points, 1 assist, 3 rebounds and 4 blocks in around 15 mins which I was very pleased with.

Just started 'my player' and one thing is screamingly obvious... my defending sucks.

Had a B+ rating in my first game until my last stint on court when my opposing player sunk 12 points, skinning me personally for 10 of them! Needless to say my rating dropped like a stone.

Any help/tricks for defending will be greatly appreciated!

Ok, thats a good start, just understand that defending in this game is so tough and that you'll pick it up the more you play the game, whoever you are using.

Holding down L2 whilst defending the ballhandler is a good tactic but shouldn't be used all the time because it wastes energy. It basically locks onto the attacker, but its mostly down to knowing what he's going to do. Luckily for us human players, the CPU's play is always predictable, unless your going up against an 'Elite' PG.

Also, I wouldn't sprint whilst on defence. Its not needed, it's unnecessary and you'll need it later on in the game.

Last tips I can give you would be to always try to stay in front of the attacker, dont try to be to daring and cunning, just do the job because like you said, it was only until the last few moments where you were caught out. When I mean try not to be cunning, I mean dont try to steal the ball so often; your rating is too low, dont stray onto other attackers; the chances are the ball will fall right back onto the hands of the player you are supposed to be guarding and he's often the best shooter or the fastest.

If you want a trick, then calling for a double team and continuously tapping Square to steal will often lead to one, because of the increased pressure on the attacker. Just dont rely on this too often because it can still lead to fouls and another player being left open. At every opportunity, improve your stamina rating until it reaches an amount you are happy at. As you've probably noticed, it runs out very quickly.

I'd worked out the L2 bit, but didn't realise it drained your stamina, will have to keep an eye on that.

Understand the 'in front' of attacker, just find it difficult to do, they have a habit of slipping me, or my own team mates geting in the way when trying to follow a player across court!

Only come across the double-team by accident, but can see how that would save face for me

One other thing... I make a good play, we string a few nice moves so that I end out in the open, I get positives for good passing and for being in good positions, the ball comes back to me in space allowing me time to drain a sweet 3 pointer... yet I get fuck all credit for scoring!?!? Seems wrong somehow

I used to stick tight to the guy was I marking, but found quite often it was easy for him to get away, so recently I began to stay a yard or two away from him, and then press square to intercept the pass. I've got around 10 steals in past 3/4 games.

Thanks for the advice, keeping that little distance really helps. Only defensice problems I've had recently are not spotting the sub & losing the man I'm marking for a second (usually the very second they decide to score!) and defending under the basket when I'm in at SG. Other than that things are slowly improving.

On the offence I can drive into the paint without too much difficulty, but really need to put some skill points on my lay-ups, missing too many sitters, though not getting marked on my performance because of it.

Still sucks that you get no skills boost for 3 pointers though.

Started an "Assocation" last night, currently in my fourth season. Started one with the New Jersey Nets. I decided that each team would start off blank, and would do a draft lottery. I got LeBron, somehow I was first pick......

My other starting players were: Brooks, Calderon Varejao, Noah. Only selected 52 games a season, got to the Final, and lost to Thunder, who suprisingly got Durant.

Did alot of wheeling and dealing, and have had great luck in the drafts, and from this have won the past two championships. However lost Brooks, and my other PG which was unfortunate.

But, got a couple of gems in the last draft which was good, currently trying to improve my budgets so I can spring for a big star free agent.

I've started an association mode with Thunder (random choice) and i dont really understand all the draft pick etc. I dont watch basketball (except the odd game on a crappy stream online) so i dont really know whos good and whos bad etc etc.

Hopefully playing through the association mode should help learn most things but i dont suppose any of you guys got any tips for good young talent etc?

I just beat the Kings @ home 95-72. Which is a nice way to start the season even if the Kings arent the best. I cant remember what difficulty im on but it isnt top and im playing 7 mins quarters. I usually play 12 min quarters but it was taking too long on My Player mode so i lowered it abit.

Firstly, you should select to download a NBA draft pick from the 2k service, these will be real players such as John Wall (who is most likely will be number 1 pick in real life). You should perhaps for the first season select the option for scouts to automatically look at the draft picks.

And when doing trades, you should try and get some trade picks in the transfer because if you do well, you will not get a high pick at the lottery.

Try to keep an eye on training in between games, you have an option to focus your training on one player, this will improve the players ratings. At the end of the year you will be allocated points that you can spend on improving players actual stats.

Finally, 7 min quaters? thats some long games, and if youve chosen 82 games per season it will take you quite some time, fortunately youre allowed to simulate games.

What team are you? Also, keep an eye on your salary cap.

haha. Good good. Well you have a very young yet solid team which is good. Make sure to hold onto Durant and Westbrook, they become two of the best players in their positions in the game.

Heres some players who hit the high 90's:

Mayo, Rose (will add more later, just can't recall)

To assign scouts to automatically scout players, just change the option in the settings.

Its quite hard to judge potential in this game because you can pretty much improve any young player to become a world beater. But off the top of my head, by each position and by realistic chances of prizing them away:

PG: Derrick Rose - The Bulls' franchise player and will probably never give him up unless your giving them an equally good player. Great ballhandling ability, great athleticsm and good at attacking the basket. Isnt a polished passer or outside shooter but does improve with development.

Russell Westbrook - Very similar to Rose, probably isnt a natural PG than Rose however. Very quick and has explosive leaping ability. Weakness is his playmaking ability. The Thunder's second most important player so chances of getting him are slim too.

Rajon Rondo - Probably the most 'complete' PG in the game, or when fully developed. The best defensive PG in the game and also possesses the essential quickness and more importantly, playmaking ability. When playing Assosiation, you will notice that he quickly becomes the Celtics' highest rated player with a contract to show it. His salary goes from $2M in the first year to $9M in the second and rises with every season. So it makes it very hard to give up that much money and probably your best player for him. But believe me, its worth it.

Chris Paul - Arguably the best PG in the NBA, is quicksilver fast, amazing ball handles, can attack the basket and shoot from outside. Probably his best assest is his passing ability, his offensive game is polished. His defensive game isnt bad either, steals the ball very well and defends his man. There isnt anyone who is more complete other than...

Deron Williams - Chris Paul's biggest rival to the name of best playmaker in the league. He probably has better attributes to play the game than Paul. Both players are the core of their respective teams, and are perfect to build teams around, absolutely perfect because they are the two playmakers in the league that could dominate with passing and scoring.

Tyreke Evans - Has the build of a SG at 6'7 but plays like a young Dywane Wade. Explosive speed and decent playmaking ability makes him a perfect piece to build around. However, still raw and has stuff to work on.
