I haven't posted on here for over a week because i wanted to have my own impressions of PES3 and not be swayed by someone else's view. I haven't been playing it all day every day because we've all got to work. I think it's a class game but finding that it's not very consistant like i was playing Brazil and beat them 4-0 then played Peru next game and just socred in the 88th minute to win 1-0 apart from that it's improved on PES2 alot more depth i like the individual players stats so no player can get away with a shoddy performance, i still think they need a history system were you can look at prev matches and seasons

heyyyyyyy, we both reached 100 posts with an hour of each other!!! i respect you taking a week off to develop your own views, no matter how much you try, other people's opinions probably do affect your own (when your reading as many as posted on here anyway!!!!!!)

Good to hear you like the game, cant disagree with anything you said, i have same problems, like beating AC Milan on master league 4* 3-0 then losing 2-0 to peruggia in the next game!! Strange.

NAY WE ARE BUT MEN. ROCK.
PES3 is really realisitic so it is like real football. For some reason for me sometimes its easy sometimes is hard. I won the african cup easily, there was so much space. However every other international tournament has been hard whith defenders always closing me down. All the club games i've played (i've not started master league) i've found it easy to win but all the international hard. On 3* the whole time. Strange.

There are some minor things i hate about the game but this is the worst, the memory card specs, i could normally get 15 - 25 saves now i probably can only get 5-15 saves

Option File - 792KB
ML Data - 402KB
Cup and Leage - around 330KB
Challenge and original data - 70KB
Formation - 49KB
Replay - 260KB

The only Memory cards i know are only up to 8MB! :( :( :(

long groud pass was deadly accurate. especially compared to the short pass

defender took the ball away from possesser too easily by shoulder charge.

180 pivotal turn was too quick, especially in sprint mode, it can virtually be execuated in no time from spring, stop, one foot step on the ball and turn... where is the momentum??

i hope those problem be fixed in PES3.
if not, i can only say that Japanese always leave the best for themself

i definitely encourage u to find a copy of we7 somewhere,
(don't feel guilty since u 've paid it for pes3)
patch it and enjoy it. forget about english commentaries, it's the same anyway after 50+ games

if pes3 did fix those problem, it will be the best game even with those unnecessary change from we7.

eager to hear ur feedback

B.T.W. why not give a try to FIFA 2004.
fifa series will never be too bad if they just add
a simple random factor into the shooting to make goal harder.

I couldn't agree more,i recieved my copy of WE7,and feel sorry for those people like me who have wasted money on PES 3,people please take note,>

NO STUTTER
BALL FEELS MORE REAL
YOU CAN SEE THE BALL
SO FLUENT,SO SMOOTH
PLAYERS ACTUALLY WANT TO RUN FOR A MOVE

Its the best out there!!!!! just try it,but FIFA can POKE IT!!!! its useless,

You get WE7 from either an import site (like play-asia.com which is advertised at the top of the page sometimes) for around £35 or a shop in the UK which could charge you around £60 for it.
You need either a chipped or modded PS2 to play it on unless your PS2 is a Japanese one.
There is a thread about modding methods in the Editing section.

No more WE7 discussions in here. There are suitable threads to do that in. This is not to mean that I prefer PES3 to WE7. I don't - I am still undecided. Use this thread only for impressions of PES3. There is a fine thread for WE7 impressions as well as one for PES3 Vs WE7 so please post in the appropriate thread.
And that goes for fifa as well. Stick to the topic - we can't be discussing movies and table-tennis in this thread either. PES3 Impressions only. If you don't think one of the other threads is suitable, make a new one but make sure it doesn't already exist first by using the Search option. Thanks.

I bought PES3 yesterday (Official Australian PAL Version) and have played it for a few hours or so. I’ve concluded that it’s the greatest football game I’ve ever played, but unfortunately, I’m taking it back. Why? Three words – The Stutter Bug.

I’ve read countless topics concerning this bug on a few PES Forums (Mainly this one) and have read many reader-reviews and official reviews on the net. This so called “bug” made me slightly cautious in buying PES3, but after so many 10/10 reviews (the scanned reviews that Zyg posted, all failed to mention this game-ruining bug) I decided to buy it.

Upon booting it up, I went straight into it – An exhibition match. The funky loading screen came up and I waited, and waited….and waited. If you haven’t guessed already, the load times are lengthier than in PES2. This didn’t really bother me, as I just turned off the entrance scene, which makes the loading time a bit shorter. (Still longer than PES3 with the entrance scene on, mind you).

I kicked off and immediately noticed the changes, which had been made to the game. Movement feels more like a mix between PES1 and FIFA; don’t let this put you off though, as members have said before, it takes time to get used to. The whole game feels harder, as it is now more difficult to penetrate defences, as shots are continuously blocked or sprayed over the bar. (I was only playing on *** difficulty!)

Then something happened. I was in midfield and suddenly the game jerked; stuttered, if you will. My heart sank, but I continued to play. Then it happened again and again…at least 6-8 times in a 5 minute half. This “stutter” occurs:

- In midfield. Probably something to do with the number of players on the screen

- On the wings. What I mean by this, is (X) passing/ (O) passing to someone on either of the wings.

- Taking a goal kick. An (X) pass to a nearby defender or a (O) goal kick up field, as you head the ball.

- Replays. Either after you’ve taken a missed-shot or when you score a goal. I don’t know about the goal replays, as it may not be stutter, it could just be the blurry effect. As another member has already said, it looks amateurish.

What’s even more worrying about this problem is that some people (on these forums) know it’s there but don’t even think it detracts from the gameplay. I hate to tell you, but it does. The most important part of a football game is the fluidity, and PES3 doesn’t have it. From what I have read PES3 stutters on every PS2 version, so it must be a software problem. The people who don’t have stutter must be blind. What about the member (of whom I can’t remember right now) who bought a new silver PS2, 2 days prior to the release, and the game still stuttered. All this talk of dust build up and faulty lasers must be entirely false.

After 2 hours of changing software settings and hardware settings and resetting the game, it still stuttered. From these changes I have concluded that there is hardly any stutter, if any in:

Exhibition matches (Stadium Effects – ON) (Commentary **) (Home and Away Crowd Support – ON)

Multiplayer Exhibition matches (With same settings as above)

Master League, however, is a different story with stutter occurring at least 10 times in a 10-minute match. (This could vary, depending on where the ball is, how many players on the screen, how many goal kicks etc.).

As I have stated above, I extensively “tinkered” with software and hardware settings and have encountered stutter in every scenario:

50hz – Texture Mapping NORMAL – Disc Speed NORMAL
50hz – Texture Mapping SMOOTH – Disc Speed NORMAL
50hz – Texture Mapping SMOOTH – Disc Speed FAST

etc.

Every combination, be it 50 or 60hz, the game stuttered.

What I find odd about the whole game can be put down the small print on page 2 of the PES3 manual:

"Konami is continuously striving to improve its products. As a result this product may differ slightly from another depending on the Purchase date."

Does this mean that Konami know about the stutter bug and plan to rectify it, in the near future? What I don’t understand is, didn’t the play-testers of PES3 notice the bug? Regardless of what people say, the bug is very much in the game and IMO, ruins this otherwise perfect game.

Overall:

Pro Evolution Soccer 3: 20/100 (With stutter)
Pro Evolution Soccer 3: 95/100 (If there was no stutter)
Pro Evolution Soccer 2: 93/100

It's a shame, as PES3 is such a great game. Even if someone finds out how to get rid of the stutter bug by turning off certain settings, what's the point of that? You buy a game and expect it to have all of it's features on. I'm taking it back tomorrow.

Hey GokuZool, I'm an Aussie as well and after two days of playing PES3 I haven't encountered the stutter bug at all. Have no idea why you've been unlucky with it but elsewhere people have speculated it could be to do with the type or age of your television rather than the game or the Playstation itself.

Had it for a few days and i think it's sh!t hot!.

The only bad thing I can find in it is the defending aspect, sometimes it's nigh on impossible to get the ball of the CPU but it's probably just me.

I love the kit and flag editing.

I can't say that I've analysed the game to the enth degree as some here have but i'm quite a simple person. All I know is i haven't felt compelled to play PES2 since I bought 3.

i guess i have to say more positive things about pes3 after i actually played couple of games,
all my comparisions were against we7.

as most ppl said, header do gets stronger, but not awfully, it goes wind often too, that makes free kicks and corners more deadly.

long pass were more accurate and quicker to execute

short pass accuracy lowered.
that's good.

shots get easier(i saw cpu scoreed a 25m bicycle shots@_@)

player movement becomes fasters

ball feels heavier

all the changes above not necessarily favors to every player, it all depends on personal feeling, but

the major improvement from pes3 were the AI
computer no longer rush along the sideline everytime, offensive stragety became more versatile and smart, thus harder to defend, plus computer dribble becomes even more accurate and swift.

overall, i think pes3 is a little improved over we7, even it may look not as natural as its jap counter part, but it's definitly better for single player due to the improvement in AI.
as for multiplayer, maybe we7 is better, since u don't wanna get high flying fifa-like scores.

I keep hearing this everywhere and when i play it there is no stutter whatosever the only thing that has gone wrong with mine is once the commentary stopped working then come back on, also i played a team in Master lg and beat them 3-0 and then when i come to the next match i was playing them again and it was'nt a cup match.weird. Has this happened to anyone else?

oh yeah how can PES3 be called totally realstic while it is a good game i would really like Konami to tells us why when someone like owen or henry gets the ball and is 5 yards clear of a defender who is really, really slow the defender can not only catch up to him but take the ball from him, this is the most annoying thing about the game, even more annoying that how they turn when they are running.

i guess it's a balance tweak to help the defenders, otherwise dribbling would be too easy.

i've been noticing these two bugs in we7 for a long time.
pes3 doesn't seem to really address that.
hopefully fifa 2k4 would have those bugs.
pc demo looks pretty promising.

RAGE!!!!! its hard to get the lead ball off the com players, plus you cant make a tackle with out getting a red card. its a big step up from PES, i'm trying to carry on playing it, no promises.

I've previously played FIFA 2002 and FIFA 2003. This is the first time I've gone with Pro-Evolution, and have bought PES3.

I'm incredibly impressed. The subtlety, the level of control, the intuitive ease of control. It's stunning.

Regardng tackling, after just a weekend I've got the hang of sliding tackles without getting in trouble very time. It is a superb balance of realism and playability.

Some of the goals I've already scored blow away any other game I've seen for flow, visual realsim and thrill.

Apart from the absolutely terrible sound, this game stunningly good. This is my only criticism. The commentary is atrociously contrarian.

More than any other game I've seen - this ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE FOOTBALL. The way the game plays, the movement, the ball.

I've just got a TV which allows 60Hz and am stoked by the PES3 gameplay improvements in 60Hz mode. Seems less PES2-like, not so much 'pinball' soccer somehow. Control seems much better, which I don't really understand (maybe it's in my head?) as it should just be a framerate difference? I'll never go back to 50Hz now, seems like a different game altogether. I wonder if some of the conflicting ideas people have re. the gameplay is down to whether they're playing 50 or 60 Hz? PES3 at 60Hz seems closer to WE7 gameplay IMO.
