I do not think much of it. I tried it once in 2008 and it felt like a completely different team as the player's abilities were set to default values, and they had increased vastly over the years.

What console was that on? i aint never been able to use my master league team online. i get what your saying about the stats/abilities, i suppose you would get people editing them before they go online to make a superteam. maybe thats why the default values are used.

It was on PC. I do not know if it is possible in 2009, but in 2008 it was only possible as a friendly match, and you had to load the masterleague team in "network options" before you created the match room.

The first thing Konami need to do is give an option to be able to cancel a game if the lag is bad, before the game starts.

As for the balancing up of teams and players then........

1. If a player has to be Barcelona every time, then the game should set the greater team objectives, of which they(the player) will no nothing about. Ie. If someone should pick Barcelona v Hull City then Barcelona would have to score say 5 goals. If they dont then they loose points, or even more points if they concede a goal.
The advantage of this is that the player who is Barcelona will never know what their objectives are, thus making it a gamble playing a lesser team. It might even be that the objective was to score maybe only one goal? The benefit for the player picking Hull City is they will know the objectives because they picked the lesser team.
Or, should the host pick a weak team (Hull City) then the opponent will have an option to pick a team of roughly equal strength, enabling the both players to not suffer any objectives other than win.

Seems a bit long winded but, people who pick teams just for the route one option(messi, eto -goal) will get bored facing hidden objectives cause it will cost them points.

They (Konami) will have to do something because if they don't then they may aswell just give an option of only playing 20 odd teams online. It's frustrating when you want to see different styles and different teams online, only for the same ole' teams popping up every time. I bet no one has ever seen more than 5% of the teams available online.

Complete waste, i think.

Firstly, there is a post where the tidied up notes are. It is on the very top of the list called ideas compilation post. Click here.

Secondly, here is an excerpt of my post on the above thread relating to this thread. I believe the solution outlined below is superior to a tier system. A tier system will introduce new barca's and man u's (the best teams in tier 2 and 3 etc.) and people will again end up using a handful of teams.

I hope to read your comments. To read my full post with other points I have suggested please click here. Cheers.

[PES requires..]A new ranking system, based on the ELO rating used in professional chess (please look up in wikipedia). The only modification required to the existing chess ELO system would be to consider the strength of the teams played with in addition to the rating of the two players.
I feel the need to clarify what this will really mean to you. Lets say your rating is 400 and your opponents is 900. You play with Besiktas against Barcelona. If you win you get about 30 points, if you draw you get 5 points, if you lose you lose only 1 point. On the other hand, the barcelona player with 900 rating will get 1 point if he wins, lose 5 points if a draw, and lose 30 points if he loses (against you with your 400 rating and lesser team).

This means that if the top ranked players want to increase their rating, they will either have to play even better or similarly rated opponents or choose weaker teams against lesser rated opponents. This will finally bring justice to the rating system and also encourage people to play with teams other than Man U and Barca. It will also reward players who refuse to play with only top teams for the sake of rating.

Note: The strength of a team could simply be measured by the area of the pentagon shown when choosing teams (the pentagon based on the attack, defence, speed, teamwork and technique of the team). This way, it would be dynamic and also change in the future with transfers that make the team stronger or weaker.

perfect ..... perfect perfect .... this is the way it should be,, any one want to play with barca to collect 30 points had to win 30 games while playing west-ham vs barca is fair enough to collect the 30 point for Hammers ..... and if they are equal like barca vs inter it could be 10 points for winning ... and smoothing we should say there must be deference in the teams ability in order to compete ... I'll give example .. if manu playing vs samapdoria my favorite team of course all the speculation for winning is manu but i am a good player and i'd won the game so it worth 30 points ...... which means like to play with inter or man or barca to promote u have to win 30 times games sampadoria or villa or Valencia could achieve in one game

I think Kubi's suggstion to use elo ratings for online pes matches is excellent.

The problem is, we are dealing with the masses when it comes to these people picking the top teams - meaning those same masses would be up in arms about no longer getting points for playing with the team they choose (man u, barce, inter etc) and this would in turn create a backlash against konami.

Konami have to satisfy the masses, as this what their main competitor do so well (ie. pander to idiots - it's called 'business')...

You make a good point there. Sad but true.

I also had another idea submitted to Konami, saying they should bring a random team selection mode, with a seperate ladder (and it does not matter that much if they use the elo system or not) only based on the results of this random match mode.

If they would implement it, they would shut me up for a year or so.

I like the 2 tier rated teams system as I prefer to play with smaller teams, when the online actually works! Speaking of which I've just tried to play again online, picked a room the kid actually had a near on green ping & then when we started the match his ping went straight to red & viola the 2 second button delay happens again so the controller got launched & the system got unplugged! I cant see konami having the brains to sort this out via a patch as its probably deeper routed than that so we'll get the all typical promises next years will be lag free.... yeah course it will.
