I know maybe faces aren't a so important aspect about the game but I think it is, and seeing the England League and other leagues faces I ask myself, what did KONAMI did this all year?

- They haven't made any significant new number of faces
- They won the Champions League License (but the game's graphics still the same, and it seems that its just a polished PES2008)
- They have not any new significant license, actually lost La Liga and continue without the Bundesliga, this is particullary ridiculous.
- They haven't created any new dribbles or feints (you see the same stupid feints you had in PES 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 2008)
- They say they improved the Edit Mode (lets see how deep..) at least by the images released today it seems the same edit mode, it seems you can't even put standard faces in other players and you can also not use their special hairstyles in other players)

I am a fan of PES, I have them all, the whole series, but in feeling with sadness and disappointement I ask:

Has PES series got to its end???

Great post.. One of the few that have Mentioned the fact that Konami no longer offers the same Editing Mode. Whatever happened to choosing "Default (Real) Faces" and mixing them with "Special Hairstyles"??

In my Opinion, it is completely contradictory to what "Next Gen" stands for.. instead of Adding Next Gen Features to the Edit Mode -PES08- ends up Taking good Features out. The Face editing in PES08 was shite, the Kit Editing Non-existent.

The same worthless Edit Mode in PES09 would be too much for me.. No Spanish la Liga, the Champions League is not in the ML, no EPL, no Bundesliga, etc, etc.. PES09 should (at the very least) offer great gameplay -and- a great Editing Mode.

Anything Less -will- be considered a disappointment. There's Nothing that can justify Why PS2 games actually had more Substance -than- PS3 games.

By the way, Faces are Important.. Most People who say that "Faces are not important" -are- just lying to themselves. As superficial as it may sound, Faces are very important to the game, it adds Realism and Quality.

Usually I agree on many of your posts......but this aint one. Great faces are an EXTRA in my mind. Im more interested in the game looking good when you are actually playing it....which PES 2009 does.

I could care less about the missing Leagues tbh. I mean If PES had ZERO licenses I'd still buy it.

Maybe that's just me idk....I care about gameplay and PES gives it to me year-in-year-out ( yes even PES 2008 had good gameplay...but not to PES standards )

You boast alot about the classic players and their faces and make a huge deal out of em. I know for a fact tho that more people would rather see more stadiums then a real looking PELE.....or Madonna. I know I would.

PES 2009....the one to remember. Itll be the best PES but the last as we know it. Next year is all new engine. DOnt know if thats a good thing but it is needed!

You prefer a real Stadium to proper-looking Classic Players?? Why?? Who notices the Stadiums during Gameplay.. Honestly, I don't care about Stadiums, I don't even notice in wich Stadium I'm playing during Gameplay.

The issue isn't the Stadiums -the- issue is the Lack of Life, you just don't feel any difference between the Different places. It's like comparing the "Nou Camp" -with- "La Bombonera", the Main Difference is in the Audience (Atmosphere) -not- the Structure of the Stadium.

And I also don't care that much about Licenses -as- Long as there is a great Editing Mode. However, If there aren't Licenses, and there isn't a proper Editing Mode to fix the issue -then- I think I wouldn't play PES, it would Look too cheap for my liking.

And as for player Faces, they might have been an extra before, but FACT is that with Next Gen Consoles Realistic Looking Faces are a must. You don't want to be using a Leo Messi who looks nothing like himself.

No one likes to play with "Fake" Uniforms -or- in other words, Unlicensed Teams. And in the same way, No one likes to play with Players who look Unlicensed. It may sound Superficial, but it is a Reality.

Classic Players?? You might not care much about them, probably because you don't know the 1st thing about them.. But regardless, you can bet that an Argentine would love to see their Idol "El Diego" in HD Graphics.

The same goes for all Pele fans, Roberto Baggio Fans, Zinedine Zidane Fans, etc, etc.. All in all, Classic Players with their Real Faces would please Millions of fans. In my opinion, a much worth-while Feature than some Stadium.

Another thing worth mentioning is that with Realistic-Looking Classic Players, a Team made by the Greatest Players of all time -would- Not look ridiculous. Playing Pele with Ronaldo -with- Maradona -with- whomever the hell you want to.. the dream of most Football Fans.

But anyways, Bottom Line is that if PES09 doesn't offers great Gameplay and a great Editing Mode -then- a LOT of fans will be disappointed.

As long as PES09 offers PES5 Gameplay -and- PES5 Editing Mode.. there won't be any complains from me.

Lionel doenst look real? hmmm idk about that one......I have been REALLY impressed with the faces so far. Cant wait to see what they will look like on my 42' HDTV plasma. Gameplay looks so much improved over 2008 when I compare them. And please if you have time compare the IN GAME SHOTS ( as when u r playing ) of 2008 and 2009....there is a big difference.

For the stadiums what i meant was like by more stadiums meant better atmosphere and what u mean the structures look different? When you take free kicks and goal kicks and PK's....some of the stadiums look pretty good on 2008. But 15 is just not enough and neither is 19 whic some rumour it to be.....but in actuality its 24. But even 24 is not enough.

If PES 5 had 37 stadiums on a ps2 and xbox....then a PS3 and XBOX 360 should be able to have at LEAST 60 stadiums by now. Idc if they are all fake names i will just rename them. It would make ML much more fun. It would give you a sense of TRAVELING around the country and continent.

But seriously messi doesnt look real too you? Or essien? Or ronaldo? or cesc? Wow....maybe its just me but 2009 faces looks amazing.

I never said Leo Messi didn't looked good.. As a matter of fact, I think Messi is spot-on.

I was just saying that Faces are Important, no one likes to play with players who do Not look like themselves.

And yes some Faces are definitely Improved -but- judging by the huge loads of pics I've seen, some 90% of the players look almost Identical to last year.

After seeing some of the Improved players; Robinho, Riquelme, Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi, Gerrard, Van Nistelrooy, and a few others -I- expected the same Improvements in the rest of the players.

Asking for too much I guess..

idk i guess this is wehre opinions come in. Im not saying if the faces are FAKE that i owuld like em but idc if they are spot on or not...as long as they have a little resemblance.

All in all I just want GAMEPLAY and PES 2009 has it....like i said before....UCL....BAL...ML...NEW EDIT MODE....NEW STADIUMS....are all extras for me if the gameplay is good.

actually faces are very important to me. Licensing, Faces, Kits and commentary are all the most important things after gameplay. Without these things the game just loses all authenticity. If Konami can't get all the licenses they need to make sure the players atleast look real.

but the players looks better then FIFA's....im just syaing IDC that much about PLAYER FACES....but that doesnt mean they dont look great. Because they do. PES 2009 has better graphics then FIFA 09.

umm they cant, but you said faces don't matter. Im just saying if Konami ever took the approach that faces didn't matter and released weird faces then my money would go to EA.

and Anderson surely is stronger than 78 and quicker than 83. It just infuriates me that they cant be bothered to put a bit of work into getting the faces of some players right and also the stats of well known players.

does fifa even have stats?everybody plays just about the same on it and everybody can keep up with everybody.Anderson hasnt proved himself to be strong and doesnt look it, hes weedy, and hes not fast either, hes like a riquelme sort of play, will patrol the midfield and pass, you seem to know nothings and im with nikicampos, for a neutral your targeting PES alot. why not talk about the flaws of FIFA, the fact that about two players look good, the player look pastey, have little difference in size and are all meat heads, despite footballers actually been slim and athletic, the fact that the 1st touches on fifa suck and the trick stick is useless 90% of the time and unnecceassry, its there purely for kids not people serious about football.the keepers do the same thing all the time and are impossible to take on which would be nice but they manage to lunge at your feet, take you down and get the ball cleanly, even from behind, oh and shooting is balls

sorry but thats a typical fanboy comment, and i bet you have only reciently decided you like PES and even arsenal and really you dont like football at all but your friends do...

I like PES because of the game play... yeah graphics and details are great but to be honest it doesnt make a difference if they get sgana's hair the right length or not... It is all about how it plays and for an arsenal fan to say otherwise is quite suprising

Just look at ur username "fifapro" no onder you don't like the faces

take a look here

http://www.pesgaming.com/showthread.php?t=63265

these faces are realistic just look at ronaldo and barry.

these faces were realistic last year in pes 08, but the question is, what have they done over a year?

And ffs, fifa pro, means fifa and pro evo... so im a neutral fan of both games. But pes is really pissing me off.

And yes I will talk abotu gameplay if you want. I honestly believe fifa 09 is a totally different game to previous crap ones as I have played the demo. I havent had the chnce to try the pes demo because they havent released it. But fifa looks promising.

good to hear someone who isnt 100% bias... in an ideal world it would be a combo "FIFA Pro Evolution"... but it isnt... so to choose i would still choose PES at the mo as from the demo FIFA still feels... erm... sticky... if that makes sense... but i will rent the full game to see if the demo is just a bad first look...

Until i pick up PES and play it i cannot be 100% either way but i can say that i think PEs will prove more addictive

I really don't know why all of you are rallying together squabling about the gameplay?? The fuckin gameplay is like everything else on the game - same as it has been for the last 5-6 years (Not that the gameplay is not good, but I still expect them to improve on it & IMO there are several different channels they could go down to achieve this)... The only major thing that Konami have done recently, is get rid of things. (Stadums, La iga License, edit mode). I know they have incorporated CL but that looks half finished. The become a legend mode will become old & boring within a couple of play, like FIFA's did. I just expected so much more after last years disappointment... & considering what Shitbass said just after PES2008 was released. I just can't see much coming from the new game to b honest. Probably gonna be another flop.

john, are you one of the reviewers from the magazines talking more about pro evo in a fifa review than fifa itself? This is such a fanboy post. The post I made wasnt even about fifa and your entire post here is to moan at fifa because you have nothing good to say about pro evo?

Have you watched any PL football? Anderson is probably the quickest CM in the game, when he makes those 50 yard bursts through the middle. He can also control and shiled the ball frombigger players. He may not be tall but he's built like a tank. And don't tell me Giggs is 77 and Anderson is 78 for their balance. Giggs is what I would call weedy. Also, where is the strength stat? Balance and Strength should be different.

As for fifa not having stats. That is just a complete lie. Strength is key in the game this year. It determines who comes out on top in aerial challeneges and shoulder to shoulder. Speed is also vital. SPaul Scholes wouldnt be able to burst down the wing but Ronaldo would. And the skills arent supposed to be mastered after 5 mins o fgameplay. It's supposed to be realistic so it takes practice just like in real life.

And you talk about first touch being poor. No, its not poor. It's realistic. Not every player controls the ball instantly in real life. Yes, Ronaldo and Messi etc. will, but many players don't.

And let's talk abotu shooting. Have you played the fifa 09 demo? You can make shots with the outside of your foot, you can curl the ball, you can place your fisnihes, you can chip the ball, make 30 yard thunderbolts and the animations are realistic.

I have talked a lot about fifa in reply to your post about fifa, when the original post is about pro evo. I am not a fifa fanboy, etc. The origina; post was about the laziness of konami with the faces. Ive seen konami boasting about their licenses anyway and from the response in forums, they do care about faces and licenses. Obvsiouly, gameoplay comes first, but realism is also important.
