PES Rage Thread: Rage till your heart's content...

The only time the game can score for you is due to silly cursor change problems and the game occasionally taking over commands, Ive had the instance when I have a player selected yet an AI team mate has powered the ball in for me, infuriating and very unrewarding but doesn't happen often. Hopefully some of the other balancing acts are removed next year as they are my main source of pes rage but what I mentioned above is a bug or something more fundamental, onto my third copy of pes now.

I've had that a couple times as well, typically on a corner where I am trying to change between two players in the box and the one I am not gets his head to it instead.

Also the rage thread has some of the most views of any thread on this site. A fan site with a complaints thread this big should be a bit of a clue.

It's not a complaints thread. It's a Rage thread. You could have one for every game!

"Ooooh, some noob just grenaded me... OMG £^*%&^%! Now I have CoD Rage"

etc etc

Would love to know what gave konami the idea of letting the AI override your commands and input occasionally, one of the reasons manual switching is a fucking travesty. It sickens me that I put a perfectly weighted manual cross into the box only to see a spasticated AI team mate get involved and head the ball wide when I have another player selected and ready, how the fuck is that engineered for freedom? I had an instance the other night where I controlled the ball and had the player selected, the game decided to shoot the ball 10 yards over for me, this never happened last gen ps1 or ps2 so why the fuck now? I don't need assistance from the game been playing the fucker since I was old enough to hold a pad.

I wonder when the last time was Seabass played his own game? I mean the guy must know its shite these days, what are Konami playing at? I mean games are supposed to get a bit better with each version not steadily worse. For me the last good PES was PES3 - that was a complete game, best football game ever made. PES6 was decent but it was far too easy, so still the best PES is a ten year old game from the last platform, there is no hope for the future.

The thing that worries me is that Seabass & co. are actually happy with what they see and is what they intended. Like seeing your players constantly mis-controlling the ball or missing it completely is what they want because they want to have the game play out a certain way.

But wasn't PES3 the one where every little touch was a foul? If it was, it broke up play way too often and was very hard to enjoy; Seabass wanting to replicate the same amount of fouls in a real match into a game, but unbelievably stupidly forgetting that a game is played in 20 minutes or lower - this is also pretty concrete evidence of how the programmers can force things (like fouls) to happen, I'd much prefer PES 5 or 6.

This also was not a case in PES10 nor in PES09.

The game is just dumber with each passing year, and seeing as the PS3 is a more advanced console than the PS2 console, I don't see any logical explanation as to why we had to endure video games like PES08, and I certainly don't see any logical explanation as to why PES11 is an improvement.

Seriously, how the fuck is PES11 an improvement?

Really, five years after PES5 and we have PES11, I do not see any real improvements, the core flaws of PES5 have not been touched, it is the same fucking video game at its core.

This is what irritates me, for some reason I still get a lot of enjoyment from the game and some fundamentals are in place that I would class as impressive (shooting, importance of first touch etc) but I agree the game is nowhere near an improvement as we expected it would be at the stage of pes 4,5 looking towards next gen, I imagined we would be further ahead in terms of gameplay.

Whats fucks me off even further is some of these illogical flaws are implemented as direct design choices, konami must think we are naive in this respect and would not notice, this I find insulting.

It is offensive, because Konami expect you to pay $60 on a yearly basis for a diminutive update of a video game you already own; for instance, I have invested a total of $240 on PES over the last four years.

And let's be honest, after PES5 and PES6, paying $240 for PES08, PES09, PES10, and PES11, is an insult.

At the end of the day, Konami takes advantage of their fans because they can, video game franchises like PES and FIFA are stuck because the producer obviously wants to continue this yearly improvement charade.

But if you look at the core fundamentals, and you play PES5 and see how the left analog stick worked then, and then you play PES11 and see how the left analog stick works now, you notice that the core fundamentals have not been touched. They have added more directions, but adding more directions to the same old thing will never fix the fundamental problem concerning movement.

Personally, I cannot enjoy it anymore because I do not consider it an improvement, and after playing the same bullshit formula for the last five years, you just reach the point where you are no longer entertained by the same trick.

I can always go and play real football, but it is a shame that the video game industry has descended to this level of self-contempt.

I think what this all basically comes down to is that Konami, Seabass et al are now just fiddling. They have taken things as far as they themselves are capable of taking them. Now they are just rehashing the same old code every year.

It would help if they stopped making a PS2 game every year and started making an actual XBOX360/PS3 game instead, or if they have to, make a PS3 game to scale down rather than the other way around.

For me PES has been shit since PES2008. It has got steadily shitter each year, and it is obvious that no one from Konami has ever read any part of this site, as the same problems that get complained about each year still exist from PES4. I sometimes wonder how much of this years game is still PES4. I wouldn't be surprised if there were still bits of PES2 in the game code somewhere. If you think about set pieces, they have basically been the same since PES4 at least. As bad.

For me if PES2012 isn't a total revolution, I mean a genuine XBOX360 generation game from the core, then Konami have no right to claim they know what they are doing. Unless PES2012 hits the mark, I don't intend to buy another Pro Evo, as this will mean six crap games in a row, with the same old shit spouted every year by Seabass. I and everyone else who wants a realistic simulation football game would just be wasting their money and time.

For me Pro Evo is as good as dead, PES2012 will be rented to see if things are better, but I seriously doubt it, as the fundamental way they go about making the game (scripting, AI cheats, shortcuts, bad referees), is the problem here. Their fundamental philosophy of how they go about making the game is totally wrong and out of date for this generation of hardware.

I call on 2K, anyone, to come in and make a football game with first class GAMEPLAY. I don't care if there are real players or licences, I don't care if the music or the animations are crap, just make the most accurate and fair simulation of football. That is all I want. All I want is my Pro Evo back. Actually I'm gonna reinstall PES3 and see what a good football game looks like :D

Same code every year? Are you tripping? 11 is completely different to 10. I'll agree with what you said about PES being shit since 2008 with that exception. PES 4 - awesome, 5 - also good, 6 - awesome, 2008 - crap, 2009 - pretty crap too, 2010 - also crap, 2011 - mint.

Jump centre backs! Jump FFS!
It's like the only one who is allowed to jump on corners is the one I'm controlling.
The rest sure do a bang up job of standing and pointing :-s

Was having a bit of a mare online today. It's the closest I've ever come to an S-D-P like disk snap. I only played 3 games, lost one, drew 3. It's the manner of the results that pissed me off the most.

The first game was 1-3. He was a decent enough player to be fair, but a point would have been a fair result. His 1st goal was an own goal. The 2nd came after a simple through ball, defenders stood and watched (as per usual), he hit a weak shot, GK flapped at it, hit the post, he hits in the rebound. 3rd goal came straight after in typical PES style.

2nd game was 2-2. I had 20 shots with 10 on target, he had 2. His first goal came from a rebound, which my defender inexplicably headed into the back of his own net. I had countless chances to win the game, and at 1-2 he scores another lucky goal. Thank god I managed to score from a corner in the last minute. The guy was crap and completely got away with it. It didn't help that he hacked me down repeatedly and came away with only a couple of bookings. The game seems reluctant to send people off.

3rd game was same score. Again he had fortunate goals.

This game drives me mad when it's like this. Every now and then, it decides to give me a really unlucky streak of games. It's not like I play any differently.... it just doesn't let me score. WHY do they have to have scripting in player vs player??? Before anyone says anything.... it's so obvious it was scripting. Even a 5yr old would have called cheat.

WHY do they have to have scripting in player vs player???

Could it be that since the player cannot actually determine movement itself, since movement itself is ultimately determined by the computer, the computer ultimately determines the outcome of the game because the player is not actually in control of the game?

It's quite annoying to hear that question after that very question has been discussed about a hundred times already.

I was a rhetorical question. It needs no discussion. Stop getting worked up over nothing.

I know that 'momentum shifts' exists within the game, but anyone who uses the term 'scripting' in this context is a penis of the highest order.

No, honestly... you should have seen the games I played..... there was no momentum shifting at all. I mean... is it momentum shifting that causes my defender to head the ball into his own net without me telling him to? Is it fuck! The guy had 2 shots to my 20 and still drew 2-2! 2 very "lucky" goals aswell. It was like 4 or 5 games in a row where I was getting this rotten "luck".
Konami have tried to get this "momentum shifting" etc into the game but have fucked up and taken it too far. With momentum shifting, it should give your players a little boost for a short time, but it shouldn't make the decisions for you. You can see goals coming from a mile away.

After the games I had yesterday, I've decided to take a break from this game for at least a month. It'll probably do me some good because I'm starting to hate the game, when I have been a PES fan since ps1 days.... not good. I already hate Fifa with a passion. I don't want to be hating the only decent football games out there.
