I've mentioned the qualities of pes3 on other threads, but i feel it is the best on the grounds my mates cant just run back and forwards on the edge of the box til they can turn and score. That used to annoy me a lot, the game of champions now demands build up play of a high calibre. For those of you saying its too easy, how about you stop being france, brazil etc and try being jamaica or someone. I beat my mate with prague the other day when he was real madrid, its most satisfying to be the underdog (my mate is rubbish mind). The only thing i dislike is the occasional failure of the camera to follow the ball after a hard shot, it does't spoil anything though, its a minor problem.PS. If anyone links the pro ev quality to fifa again, they should be banned from the boards.

Good point. I must be the only person i know who prefers to play with teams like Iran, China or Costa Rica. For me, one of the most exciting things in real football (esp. at the world cup) is when a weaker team plays one of the football superpowers like France or Brazil and pulls off a dramatic victory.

It's these so-called giant killing feats which also made the FA Cup so famous.

NAY WE ARE BUT MEN. ROCK.
The basic facts here are PES2 is the best for a quick quality arcade style footy match, PES3 is for long commited realisitic slog it out football matches. This probably means for two players (unless you are both heavy users of pes3) PES2 is better.

PES 2 better than PES 3

This might cause outrage amongst you hard corers but PES 3 isn't all that good especially when compared to PES 2. Heres why PES 3 isn't that good;

1) The goalkeepers are terrible, and i mean terrible. They can't save anything. Making it to easy to score and kind of arcady.
2) When the players run diagonal its looks daft.
3) The players don't look like who they are supposed to. I.E rio ferdinand, Del piero etc.
4) When you play the computer you can have five guys around the man with the ball and he still comes away with it! and before you post back saying i must be shit i have been playing ISS/PES for 6 years.
5) The master league is shite. You have to wait ages to sign anyone.
6) and finnally it just isnt as much fun as playing PES 2, even though PES 2 has plently of problems.

NOW THE BLACHLASH. I PREDICT AFEW POSTS SAYING "WHY DONT YOU GO PLAY PES2 THEN" ETC ETC, PROBLEM WITH THAT IS I HAVE PAID £40 QUID FOR PES 3.

I noticed alot of the things you were saying were to do with the looks and not the gameplay, although i agree on the goal keepers and i think del piero looks well like him on the game, i have to say it doesn't feel as smooth to play as pes2.

No real backlash here, just a few comments.

1-Goalkeepers...they save some , they don'y, no big deal.

2-Animation...I remember thinking PES2 was "weird" after PES 1, now I'm used to PES3 I think it's alright.

3-Some players are freaks agreed, but a lot are better than before.

4-Tackling is harder I agree, but it forces you to structure your defence better I think.

5-When was the last time a small club went mad signing lots of high-profile players?

6-Each to their own.

The only moans I have are the lack of licencing, and, more importantly to me, how can a game with detail like stars for winning the league have such poor graphics in relation to clipping. Feet disappearing into turf, headers/kicks which, upon replay viewing, are at least a foot (in game terms) away from the ball. Come on konami, next time do it all properly.

I've said it before, i think you have to get used to PES 3 for a while, its weird compared to PES 2 at first. if you dont like it after that, sorry. you cant do anything but exchange it can you???

I agree with Spike's post.

You can edit the faces and fix anyone you don't like the look of.

Some keepers are good and some are bad. At least there are far less sweet spot goals in PES3.
Master League is more realistic now than in PES2 and even then it's still possible to buy over 10 players at the end of the season.

How do you define "fun"? Dribbling past the whole team and blasting into the top corner from a diagonal position?

Give it some time and you'll see that PES3 is better. ;)

Great Game

I have never played PES2 before, infact, why am i even posting on this thread??
but what i can say is i've played FIFA & This is Football for ages & i can safely say they r just absolutely shite compared to PES3.
PES3 is a football gaming masterpiece. I've never got so involved in a game in my life!. It sometimes gets to the point i get so frustrated with myself i almost shout out a whole load of obscenities.
Firstly, the gameplay is great, its no longer possible (hardly anyway) to run the whole pitch and thumping the ball past the goalie without getting tackled. The computer reads the play well, just about all the time my through balls are cut out. Build up play is essential, you have to pass it around on this game, instead of dribbling it around everyone. Making it a beatifull game :p.
IMO the goalkeepers are pretty decent, they save just about all my shots, even the close up Hasselbaink piledrivers.
Also its hard to score, when i first got this game i thought i'd settle down to a nice Battle of britain match, Blue v Blue, Chelsea v Rangers. I was extremely pleased to see Stamford Bridge on the list of venues, adding to that, it looks very like its real life counterpart. So back to the match, I passed it about for a bit trying to keep posession, but i just kept losing the ball, due to the new AI Defense level, they would close me down immediately, so i ended up giving the ball away. I went into half-time with the scoreline 0-0 and only 1 shot to show for it, which went miles wide. The second half, Rangers piled on the pressure but i managed to hold out. So it went to silver goal, 12 mins into the 1st half of ET they had a shot which deflected past a stranded Cudicini, I was gutted.
After playing for 4 matches, i finally scored my first goal (which i saved the replay of and will treasure for a long time).
The graphics on the game are great, i love the way you can change the camera angles on the stadium just before a match, its really realistic.
All in all, a great game, a piece of art. Only criticism is the player names & kits etc. aswell as lack of teams, but if thats all you want then get fifa, i bought PES3 for gameplay. I hope a PES4 is going to be made, with all the licenses this time, that would just completely blow FIFA away. And PES would top the charts forever and ever. Amen.

Cheers. And sorry for making you all read so much :p

it's a masterpeice until you play on 5* lead 4-0..they come back in the second half win in extra time and score all 5 goals through bycicle kicks outside the box.

it's the best game ever... PES2 had qualities but not as much as PES3 , dribbling is much improved over PES2..but sometimes i do miss dribbling over 5 defenders on 5*...but scoring on PES3 is more appreciatable.

Don`t we agree on this by now? PES 3 is better. My biggest problem now is time. All my spare time goes into playing the damn game. I`m a young man using it all up on a tv-game. Work, eat, PES3, eat, sleep, work. But maybe i should tell this to a shrink instead of you guys..

pes3 takes a while to get used, i remember that i never really injoyed it till i got the hang on the differnece's between pes3 n pes2. pes2 dribbling was waaaaay to easy, unless u enjoy winning matches about 9-0 over and over. I get the same enjoyment from scoring 3 goals on pes3 then i ever did on pes2 scorring 7!

I liked PES2 after I'd edited it extensively, but only vs a mate. CPU games were pretty crap and boring.

PES3 is SOOOO much better. I won't repeat the comments I've read that I think most of us agree with (better defensive AI etc). I love some of the small touches, the way the ball bobbles around in the box sometimes, the 50-50 balls, the improved midfield play, the way your players travel up&down the pitch as more of a team unit, the increased emphasis on TIMING, the improved long passing, the fact that you now have to use the strategies etc to win games (in PES2 they were irrelevant cos it was so easy).

The goalkeeping troubled me at first but I'm ok with it now. There is a great gulf in keeping skills between the Kahns and the rest. Anyone who thinks the keepers are crap could just edit keeper skills up a bit if its that much of an issue.

I'm still finding it hard to adjust to the slow passing - sometimes the ball travels infuriatingly slowly, but hell I'd prefer this to PES2 ping-pong anyday so I'm not bummed out about it. And players do look odd when they run diagonally, and slow down abit too I think - but maybe this is konami taking into account the perspective.

It's addictive because it's difficult, but not too difficult. Mastery feels attainable with practice, and when you do badly, it's usually your own fault (the odd CPU superhuman dribblefest aside)

I think finally most PES fans have got a game that approaches their gameplay expectations, and now i just want more teams/options etc. e.g full premier league.
