wiserommer and dannyboy20(Yes i remember all the good times in July!)

I have WE8 like so many here do,but I do have some questions in particular.

1)Does the game seem to have it's graphics cleaned up? I mean there were times when WE8 would shimmer (because of the new lighting).

2)Are ANY of the stadiums changed? Meaning the pitch or maybe a different stadium altogether?

and finally...

3)Is it a over cleaner and smoother version than WE8? meaning in it's look and play?

1) I think the gfx have got worse, the players edge are like rigged, but We8 had smooth edge, this is when running using wide, not during fk and animations.

2) Not sure.

3) Well no slowdown on 50hz or 60hz for me, I play of the Hard Drive. And it is faster then We8 and has easier to pass players.

I don't know if any of you know but there is a website where it tells you all the transfers, real names, and soon they will have the real kits section. They have most of the information for WE8 but they will problably have all the information for PES4 by the "real" release date.
Check it out. http://www.winning-eleven.com/index.php

PES4 DVD version. Seems less fluid feeling than WE8 to me. Might just be my imagination though. No slowdown that I can see, in 60hz mode. Even lets you import your PES3 option file. Shame I can't import my WE8 option file though.

just a few questions:

-I know you mentioned Crystal Palace and Norwich are in but are West Brom in aswell?

-Do Juventus have there 2005/2006 strips?

-Any new tricks?

-Hows the Master League mode, any good?

-Is Kaka and/or Adu on the game?

Yes, all 3 new Premiership teams are in. Relegated 3 are out.

-Do Juventus have there 2005/2006 strips?
One with the Sky Sport sponsor? If so, yes.

-Any new tricks?
Compared to PES3 or WE8? A few more compared to PES3, haven't seen any new ones compared to WE8...yet.

-Hows the Master League mode, any good?
Haven't tried ML yet sorry.

-Is Kaka and/or Adu on the game?
Kaka is yes, pretty sure Adu is too.

A cool thing i've noticed after reading the controls in game is you can change the direction of your free kick after you have started to press the square or circle button. This was probably in WE8, but I didn't notice it. Its pretty good, just tried it in training. Shot towards the middle of the goal, when the power bar was filling up I held left on the right analogue stick and the ball went to the left. I then tried holding right on the right stick and the ball went to the right. Probably well known, so i'll get my coat if it is.... :p

I've also noticed that there's more double players. Van Nistlerooy has his real name in the Man U squad. But in the Netherlands squad his name is wrong. Was this the case in We8?

ashmufc long time no see! :)

yeah i was really just wondering IF the graphics got a slight fix as WE8 had some minor and even now major hiccups in some visual departments (at no fault of Konami though...PS2? eh )

I'll still be waiting for it though. If the slowdown thng is overwith plus knowing it's in full Eng now i'm even more hopeful of enjoying it. I still haven't patched my WE8 because I feel there hasn't been one really "true" patch (But I most def. will catch CLASSICOS 2005). That said, thanks for the responses as always... :)

I played it quite a bit last night. And its got good and bad points.

Firstly, let me point out that I am sure this DVD is a beta copy. Why? Well I'm pretty sure they'd have tested the PES3 option file import, otherwise it'd be a largely pointless feature. I booted up PES3 to check my option file, and all teams had their proper player names. So I boot up PES4 and import PES3 option file. It correctly named about 75% of the teams and ignored others. However it didn't attempt the player names at all (even though I explicitly asked it to during the import). Rangers and Celtic for example were full of fictional names, though they are correct on my PES file.

Gameplay wise it feels identical to WE8. So thats good. All the plays are just as fluid, the passing remains exceptional, running is still a joy, players still making nice runs. Graphically its no different either. So much improved over PES3.

However, I noticed that the widest view on WE8 (and previous WE games) is equivalent to PES Normal Long. Play PES4 on Normal Long and the graphics are smooth as WE8 and the animation and framerate remains silky, even at corners. Switch the view to Wide, and you get much more pitch to look at, exactly the same as PES3. However, here things suffer. The graphics look a little chunkier, and the framerate can really take a beating. That's stadium dependant. Some stadiums seem to manage to keep framerate nice and smooth even through a corner or cross, Caesar Stadium, Day, Summer, No Stadium FX, Fine weather, and its silky all the way. The grass on that stadium is of lower detail, which actually helps make the players look crisper, and the stands and objects are less intricate. The result is silkiness. Play on some of the more detailed stadiums with more textured grass, and things start to struggle. Corners get much slowdown, and even crosses and long passes can cause some stuttering. I play with commentary off, so its not the commentary thats the issue. It just seems like on Wide, there is too much going on for the PS2 to cope with.

Crowd noises are back to PES3 standards. So its clear that the quality chanting in my WE8 (OLE) was the result of a quality patch.

It still plays very well, and the longer camera angle is worth the occasional stutter, though Caesar Stadium helps here.

Given the option file import issue, and the stuttering, this would seem to be a beta right enough, presumably the 75% complete beta they were showing mags and so on, where they said they'd yet to solve the slowdown. If this is the case, then the final PS2 installment could be improved, and its almost certain the Xbox won't be hampered by the slowdown, given its power advantage.
