new stuff

i would really like 2 c it online 4 the ps2. Also licenced kits, and better ratings at the end of a game, so its possible 2 get more than 8. and better refs that dont give fre kicks 4 nothing

This may sound a bit stupid, but yes I do agree with having better refs. But I think that one good thing would be, is if you could actually be a ref in a match. So say it is you versus a mate and another mate is the ref, well we all know that the refs give poor decisions, so with a real person controlling what the ref does then fouls will be real fouls, etc. You could have some real fun here as well.

The ref will in theory give the right decisions.

I would like to be able to play a master league, season or cup, and if I get about half way through and I wanna see the highlights from say the 4th match (the hightlights that are shown after a game) then I could view them.

Also ability to save a matches highlights after a game if it was a great game and you want more than just the goals.

Every player should have the same "injury" parameter but it just depends on the tackle. When you barge someone over by the X button, those who are B/C go down like a ton of bricks. That should happen when they get slide challenged and fall awkwardly.

A long post...

Yea you guys are ALL right. I mean, we all want different things but we’re all gonna have to be realistic and reach a middle ground. There’s a difference between what us, the players of the game, WANT and what Konami can afford to do.

Here’s my short list of what I would like to see in the next PES… Most of it's just from what all you guys have said in previous posts but i've come up with a couple of my own ideas...

1.) BETTER GOALKEEPERS

The keepers need improving when it comes to saving long shots and not watching 30 yarder’s rocket past them! Their defending from high balls, catching, parrying shots and decision-making still needs improvement. PES 5 should have a control, which stops the keeper coming out of the box when you don't need him to.

Goalkeepers should be able to throw OVER arm balls out from the box and commit themselves more often by throwing themselves at the players' feet when one-on-one with a player. “Decision-making” should be an attribute for goalkeepers with the higher the attribute, the faster and better they make a decision when it comes to coming out off their line and committing themselves. Konami could focus on improving the dive animation of each keeper so each keeper becomes more of an individual.

2.) GRAPHICS, DETAIL AND GAMEPLAY

In the opening cut scene, teams should shake hands. Touches from International Superstar Soccer on the N64 (what a game) should be included such as the simplicity of the radar (one team is blue dots and the other, red dots) and the pre kick-off coin toss to decide who’s kicking off/shooting which way.

On-screen layouts could be improved. The score in second leg cup games could have the aggregate score on-screen whilst the game is played. Furthermore, when a goal’s scored and the games kicked off again, the score should come up with the goal scorer underneath like on television. And, you could see who's scored so far in the game - handy if your star striker's having a crap game.

Improve the in-game editor – its improved a lot from PES3 but there’s still more room for improvement. Kit-wise, I think there should be THREE kits per team at the strip selection thus avoiding kit-clashes. Kit clashes are just too commona and annoying. Prime examples are derbies such as the Milan derby and the Manchester derby. One of Inter or AC change their shorts to white to avoid clashing, perhaps there could be an option where you could change the colour of the shorts?

Different types of pitches – the pitches should be different according to which country they’re played in. In PES4, Old Trafford’s pitch is cut and designed really oddly but Highbury has a really nice pitch layout and it is very clear. Hopefully most pitches in PES5 will have a real nice lush green colour but some on PES4 are just insipid and look real dried out.

The crowd could reflect the way of the match, for example if the home team was getting ripped apart, some of the fans should leave the stadium. Riots and fights could break out too. People could be on the pitch, pitches should be invaded when a team avoids the drop or wins the cup. Konami should have less of the giant flags that take up half the stands too and improve the banners. Better crowds too please, the chants and colours in the crowd need working on. Arsenal and Manchester United should have a sea of red and white supporters. WEFA games/games when played abroad in Italy, Spain and Japan should have flares where as in England, it would be more banner-based. WEFA games should be played in the evening as they are in real life, league games during the day and cup games, depending on which stage of the cup, day or night.

The commentators taking into account each of the team’s situation can improve the commentary. For example, they can say how the win will put them into the semi-final of the WEFA Cup, put them however many points clear at the top of the table or how the away goals rule will send them through. Furthermore, they can single out players who have been playing well and comment on other games being played at the same time. For example, in crucial matches there should be a score tracker sub-menu type screen that appears in your match with the commentators stating what has happened in the other fixtures and how that affects your team. PES 4 could have the commentators keeping track of the other games being played at the same time in the same league also saying how those results will affect the teams/league. If one of the top scorers of the campaign scores, how many that takes his goal tally to and in what position of top scorer he is. To be honest, the commentary is pretty awful and is one of the very few low points about the PES series. I mean, for Christ’s sake Brackley says: “And that ends the first period of extra time” after a goal replay during normal time! It’s just laughable really, I remember reading someone who posted: “How much for Tyler and Motson?” And to that I totally agree. Also, what happened to the option in PES3 where you could change the team commentary name to the actual team nam. For example, in PES 3, you could have Brackley say, “Liverpool” instead of “Merseyside Red”

Defences should be tighter and respond better to loose balls, attackers and crosses. I feel that the defences are fairly easy to run around, even on 6 star difficulty. The game needs to be harder! 10 star, perhaps? No disrespect to the makers but the computer intelligence is just too simple to predict what they’re going to do. When PES4 introduced 6 star, I bet even the PES veterans were like “Whoooah!” but it turned out to be a flop as I’m not even that good yet I smacked up Inter Milan 6-0 first time and 7-0 the second…

Any extra detail and touches such as electronic ad-boards, confetti on pitch, ball boys, stewards/police would be cool…

3.) MASTER LEAGUE

The Master League feature of PES is the very foundation of the game but it still needs some work…

The teamwork of your Master League team could be affected by how much you play each player and which team they play in. For example, if you have a regular partnership up front and then change it, it should have an effect on the amount of goals scored, teamwork and player co-operation. Free training should have an option to train your team using in-game training programmes such as free kicks and corners. Only the teamwork attribute of a player is affected depending on how often player is played but I think this could improve or worsen individual player morale and as a result, skill. Furthermore, their performance on the pitch could suffer as a result of being sidelined. Goal droughts for those players who score heavily could suffer and play inconsistently until a goal is scored etc.

You could start with a young ML team instead of elder players.

There could be a greater degree of injuries. Career-threatening/ending injuries when a really bad sliding challenge is made or the medical cross sign could appear above a player’s head when he gets injured but play continues. I saw this in a football game but can’t remember which one. This way, players can pick up injuries without disrupting the flow of the game.

How about pounds or Euros and NOT points? I’d much rather buy a player for X amount of millions and pay him X amount of money a week rather than it measured in points. Also, the cups could at least resemble roughly the trophy in real life. I mean you’ve got a great, big, giant cup, which is meant to be the WEFA Championship trophy!

4.) CUT SCENES

Apart from when the cut scenes are used in PES4 for dirty challenges when players would jump in to break up or join the fight, cut scenes could also be used for when players miss sitters or score own goals, team-mates should console them. Keepers should be given pats on the back by team-mates when they make good saves. The introduction of managers and coaches on the touchline would be very cool too.

Players should argue with the ref more over controversial decisions such as players being ruled offside, disallowed goals and penalty decisions. There should be inconsistent offside decisions just like real life with the decisions pointed out by the hopefully (fingers crossed) improved commentary. By this I mean a player receives a red card when you and the commentator thinks it should be a yellow. More controversy, basically. And also, manager/coach cut scenes with them getting up and shouting from the touchline to show their frustration/rejoice.

If a player goes down in the area for a penalty or has got away with a dirty challenge, the crowd should boo him whenever he has possession of the ball for the rest of the match. Effective if the offending player is playing away… Derbies should be louder and more physical.

Introducing the teams should be different depending on which game it was. Internationals should have the team photographs and national anthems but league and cup matches should just have the mascots coming out onto pitch.

5.) GREATER LEVEL OF PLAYER DETAIL

Spitting, sweating, shouting, hair moving in the wind/rain, muddy kits as the game progresses. The pitch should get cut up as the game progresses and as the tackles fly in. Grunts, groans and shouts should be heard as players get tackled, shoot and run for the ball. Players' arms raised when taking a goal kicks and corners. Players shouting commands and encouragement, in particular, keepers and captains organising their team during an opposition set piece. Calling them to keep focused if their team go one up in a tight game.

When an attacker and defender are both running for the ball, there should be greater detail with shirt pulls and concentration evident on their faces.

Weather conditions such as snow, wind, heavy rain and boiling heat affecting the playing conditions. Bags of water should be given to the players at sidelines like in USA ’94. Players should wear gloves in the cold. And bobble hats!

Frustration of a side evident in kicking/throwing the ball away if a foul is committed. I don't have a clue how this would be done but it would be highly realistic should Konami pull it off. Furthermore, I’d like it (and I’m sure all you guys would too) if Konami didn't do a fade-in/fade-out for a throw in, corner or goal kick. This would keep the timing of the game realistic as its frustrating when you're on a counter attack or the other team's keeper has come far out and when the ball goes out of play, they're transported within a second back to their goal.

Ball boys could be added too but if this was too much to have on screen then a ball could be “thrown” back in to play for the teams to continue.

Different goal celebrations according to how important the stage in the game the goal is scored. For example, 10 man pile up’s for title clinchers or relegation savers. Players jumping into the crowd a la Steven Gerrard scoring the third against Olympiakos and getting mobbed. Nice touch, I reckon!

6.) GREATER PLAYER CONTROL

Better AI - Players automatically knowing when to leave the ball to run out of play to gain goal kick/corner/throw in.

Quickly taken free kicks and throw in's to catch team off guard. Therefore there shouldn’t be an on-screen fade out/fade in.

Players could make more and better runs too. I’ve noticed that when you break on the counter, you’re up there by yourself against 4 or 5 odd defenders having left the rest of your team behind! Also, perhaps a Madden passing system where if you have several players in front of you, you can choose who you pass to?

Or actually, come to think of it, you could use a combination of X and one of L2, R1 or R2 (No L1 as that’s the ‘pass and run’ command). Each of the possible receivers of the pass would have one of X, L2, R1 or R2 above them and pressing X whilst holding down the other command would pass to that player (obviously pressing X would pass it to whoever had X above their head),

For all the players in the game - Players’ technique should be improved because a lot of the players’ first touch when receiving a pass is sometimes bad, no matter how good they are. I mean, Henry, Zidane - their first touch is sometimes awful...

And if you've bothered to read down to here I’d like to know if what you think!

I agree on every point Saan , the point is that many of these things has been sad and we v moved to an other step ( sending a letter to Konami from our comunity) trying to keep it short as possible but very clear on the points that the members in here wish to se in future games, Visit the post A LETTER TO KONAMI ?

Saan!

What a post....and I agree with every single point. Someone give this guy a medal!

Tethlon.
I've seen some posts on this site..but this one takes the biscuit, and the tea.

However excellent your points are, we would probably have to wait for the PS3 to have all these features installed... with good effect anyways.

The development should be tinkered with a little bit. I think players lose their pace and skill a bit too quickly. I got Ewerthon losing speed and ge's just turned 28. Maybe Cafu (real life) was super duper fast when he was pre-28, cos he's still bloody quick.

I'm just askin for more intelligent un-development of players.

Also the defence need to react better on a break.

That is, my LB should come flying in from his wing to catch a striker who has beaten the trap just over half way. It's quite fustrating trying to change player and the cursor never gets to him till it's a bit too late!

Also for the master league, or wateva league format they use in the next series, there should be an option where the the developed players and retired players etc are somehow intergrated into the international teams for tournaments and stuff.

Like i got Berger and mertesacker as my two of my three CB's (Nadal the other) and they're both over 90 for defence in their early 20's. It'd be awesome if these two were now able to be selected in the German national team with their new stats.

I don't know how that'd work at the default match screen. But maybe in the master league, you had all the international teams and the option of editing them (or the computer auto' picking the new best players - form?)

Then maybe that way, a world cup qualifying thing or just the world cup could be integrated into the Ml system and you picked however many teams and went for the world cup/oceania or wateva u know.

i could possible word this better but i hope you get my drift

Good post.

Expect for making inconsistent offsides. I Think that the offside should always be perfect, you would get rather annoyed if it was not. When your playing your mates the last thing that you want is an offside decision going against you or going your way, it would basically mean that you didnt win properly or lose properly. I would like to see ball boys and stewards but I can't see that happening. Commentary definetely needs improvement as you said sean.

Thanks guys, for saying i deserve a medal lol and other things but you must think either

A.) I'm a cynical kid who does nothing else than pull games apart and criticise rather than praise
B.) I've played every PES to death
C.) Both A and B

Anyway...

Madrileno - I'm all for writing a letter to Konami, just tell me where to post mine!

Orkyben - Thanks for your comment!

Kallum - You're right - we WOULD have to wait for next generation consoles for any future developments in gameplay to happen!

Rockymazza - For a start, it's 'Saan' not 'Sean' lol but don't worry!

Today, football's all about getting away with what you get can rather than what you've got to show on the pitch. In terms of the game's realism inconsistent decisions and crazy decisions by the referee is all reflective of how the game pans out. For example, anyone remember Thierry Henry's second goal against Manchester United in 2002 to put Arsenal 2-1 up? Same game where Sol Campbell was sent off for that clearly UNINTENTIONAL elbow on Ole-Gunnar Solksjaer. Anyway, point is Henry was a clear 2 yards offside yet the linesman failed to realise. Decisions like this in the game would cause such controversy between you and your friends and that's what football does - it disrupts! It's not a peaceful game, either you get the decision, score and win the game or the decision goes against you and you lose - harshly. But that’s an aspect of realism that we want in the game. I can think of other examples of wrongfully flagged players... How about Paul Scholes against Porto in the Champions League 2003-2004? He was ONSIDE when he scored the only goal for United yet the goal was ruled out for offside and what happens? Phil Neville gives away a free kick late into injury time in which, Costinha scores thus putting Porto into the next round. They go on and win the Champions League. Anyway, that’s my point of view; I could be on my own for this one…

Yes, I do see what you mean and I suppose it would be interesting to see this put into the game but I would still like the option to have perfect refs as well. However I think that if we did have inconsistent refs, we would get used to it and give us a better, more realistic aspect to the game. Different refs could have different consistency ratings and tolerance ratings, etc. I suppose it would be good but I doubt it will be put into the game.

I would also like to say, that for penalties, I think a power bar would make it better for the striker possibly, and the goalkeeper was able to move more on the line, so make it easier to save on one side but harder or impossible to save on other,eg-if keeper is on right hand side of his goal then it wud make it slightly easier to save on that side and less so on the other but he can still move on the line and make it difficult for the penalty taker. However, unless there is no real better way of making penalties better then stick with the original.

Oh and sorry Sean, just kidding. Sorry, your name is Saan. Hehe.
