Those two? A dream team? How so?

They're both summarisers, for a start. Neither are proper commentators, so the two of them together on a game would never happen.

That said, I like both of them, but they'd never "call" a match together.

I think Lawro and Champion are not the best commentators! Now maybe you are a big fan of them because you love them on BBC and FA Cup...im not faulting you for that. But Andy Grey and Martin Tyler do a pretty good job and given a choice I would prefer them. Credit to FIFA for grabbing them and Im not bitching or saying I want Konami to steal them but I think i would prefer better commentators from the grandads we have on PES. Its like the kits, yes you can do without them but given a choice you would not say no.

Yes the scripts are bad! I know that. We all know that. But in terms of their voices, I think PES needs a fresh start with two new commentators.

I don't think that they need to change the commentators. If you heard Jon Champion on his tv commentry he sounds great and keeps a good commentry going. He is good in Champions League games and also in international games such as European Championships and World Cup. I think perhaps the way they go about recording the commentators and the setting that they put them in should be reviewed...

I know who Jim Belin is but I have never heard Gerry Armstrong... Is he an international English commentator? He isn't someone i have come accross in the UK.

I agree new commentators would be great who keep up with the pace of the game!

:brickwall: Its not the fault of the commentators its more to do with the programming of the commentry in the game!

Well, its a very bizzare to be stuck in a studio and told to act like its a football match! Its pritty hard. I think that PES 2009 was better from him but I think they maybe they could take them to a real match and get them microphoned up and get some proper commentry!

how can konami fix whats not broken ? lawro and champion are probably the cheaper option as konami have already got alot of recordings from them plus new ones. id rather see more effort put into the ml, bal and online

lets be honest, how many of us play with mute / music playing when playing pro ?

i'll be gutted if lawro's roar of " THE VOLLE " isnt in the new one

liverpoolsco:

Gerry Armstrong is the Irish bloke who is one of Sky Sports' La Liga "experts". He's an expert because he spent a couple of years at Mallorca in the early eighties. >_>

Its only because Lawrenson isn't a good actor, in-game commentary is just like acting in a show/film. Andy Gray in FIFA sounds authentic because he can act like he is at a real match even when he's reading from a script.

Having said that, just like in a film, its up to the director to make sure he does it right so maybe its more to do with that.

As far as Im concerned the commentry team is boring. In fact lets look at this another way. Commentry is a critical part of any football match when you are a spectator. I dare you to watch the next Champions League final without commentry and to see whether you will have the same level of satisfaction.

Now when you consider that a lot of people are now turning off the commentry because it has become this bad, then to me at leaste I think Konami needs to do something about it. Im not saying you cannot enjoy the game without commentry but Im sure thats not how Konami want the game to be enjoyed and I know even they would agree with me (or they would remove it entirely).

So the Lawro and Champion have to go. I hear they will be in the next one and thats a shame...so look forward to another forum post from me next year asking for them to be changed :D.

I woudnt change the comentators myself, i think John Champion has a unique voice and is a great commentator, at lest he is in real life, i dont care about lawrenson though but theres not point changing him. The only person id rather have is Clive Tydsley simply because he gets over dramatic alot of the time, specially on champions league nights. But anyway its the script and the speed its played at that needs too be improved, people will compare the games commetary to fifa's. We all know fifa's commentary is better but even at that i have played FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 4 recently and the commentary in that is top notch, with background stories commentators having discussions and making comparisons. Another thing, anyone calling for andy gray and martin tyler should forget about it, there working for sky and probably on an exclusive deal with fifa.

tbh, Lawrenson is only good and damn funny when he works with John Motson for BBC.
Two commentators I would like to see are Clive Tydsely (sorry if I spelt the name wrong) and Andy Gray. Martin Tyler IS a good commentator too.

Commentators ----Amazing--

For everyone who doesnt like the commentating in pes 2009 and earlier releases then i would reccommend not only watching the video i have posted below but to read some of these suggestions i have reccomended:
1. historical content--eg here an former gunner who could be competing against his team in the final!
2. louder and faster more commentatin ( make it frantic)
3. commentating relevant to the movement, passes, players, through balls, shots, rebounds, corner kicks and the stadium.

Last of all, listen to the commentating in the video below which is of a game player that would live in history of the minds of both liverpool and arsenal fans, it could only be ashavins 4 goals at liverpool.
Arshavins Poker-- Arsenal Vs Liverpool 4-4

I'm not really a fan of European commentators at all. Not only are they extremely boring, but they make the whole experience just sound so much worse!

If you really wanted to listen to some good narrators, I'd suggest looking up José Silvério, o Pai do Gol! But of course narration will never reach his level on video games, it's impossible.
