BAL MODE - How to get good ratings - idea's thread

Mark-

yeh i know what you mean. i think it does have an effect, but what i've noticed since my last post, whilst playing a CM role, 7 interceptions or more has gained me a 7.0 on a couple of occasions. On one occasion it was with 38 touches on the ball and only quite good passing stats(about 22 passes 17 made). I imagine then that the more touches (50 or more as you said) will help your rating especially if you have under 7 interceptions. I really think that 7 interceptions is the mark to hit and will undoubtebly boost your rating, not easy though!
I need to limit my shots off target as well cos i think its damaging my ratings, but its hard when your crap at 17.

If you score and make an assist in the same match, you'll get a 7.0 instantly.
I wish. One game I scored 2 goals and had an assist as a CF on Regular difficulty and received a 6.0 for my wonderful effort.

For me, I try so many different ways to gain points, but it usually just random. Now I am playing RW for Newcastle. Sometimes I go nuts, make touches, intercept, and run all over the pitch. This gives me a range of performance scores. On the other hand, I sometimes am patient, waiting on the wings for a counter, and still the scores vary.

I love BAL, it's an addiction, but am at my wits end as to how to score higher. I am second in the EPL in assists, yet average a 6.1 for my efforts. Gets frustrating sometimes. I know it shouldn't matter, but receiving low scores makes it too easy to send you back on the bench. I have found that just a few bad performances does this to me, so I really try to get better scores.

Btw, I read someone say coming in late gives better scores. That may be true, but doesn't seem to happen for me. I usually will average 5.5 off the bench.

And yes, I have found that offsides and fouls definitely reduce your score by at least 1.0. And risky through ball passes that are intercepted reduce it as well -- I love to try to get the ball to my CF with an arial through ball, but seems to reduce my grade.

But whatever, this thread has been a relief to read as you all are experiencing the same challenges with this rating system. God bless.

I just wanted to add, I've gotten an 8.0 one time for scoring one goal despite the yellow card I had. I'm sure fouls take away points or however it works, but I think some things are placed of more value than others, because otherwise I wouldn't have gotten that 8.0 (and I don't expect 8.5, as that is one score I have yet to receive).

Interesting...

I wish I knew what the system of rating was. It would make it easier to know exactly what is expected. But no matter what, I still enjoy BAL.

God bless.

They more your teamates pass the ball to you, they higher the rating. You're involved more in the match so it makes sense.

Ive only ever achieved one 8.0 rating (top player WF) and these were the circumstances:

It was England vs Spain Euro Cup knockout stages. I was brought on at half time and it was 1-1. I was having a good game, seeing quite a bit of the ball in space and was brought down in the box about half-way through the second half. I stepped up to take the pen (the first and only pen I've taken) and put it low down the middle to put us 2-1 in the lead.
Nearing the end of the 2nd half and Spain pull it back to push the game in to extra-time. Nearing the end of the 1st half of extra-time I break down the right wing and ping in a ball for Reo-Cocker (yes you read that right) to finish sweetly to put England back in the lead 3-2.
The second half of extra-time begins and soon after kick-off Spain again pull a goal back to make it 3-3 and I'm certain we're going to penalties to lose in time-honoured and typically English fashion. The clock's running out and with stoppage time perilously close I pick up the ball in the Spanish half and break left hoping to put a ball in - no support. I drive into the box, muscle by the hapless Pirlo and smash a right foot drive into the very corner of the T and into the goal. Englerlaand, Engerlaand Engerlaand!!!
England win it 4-3 - my tally for the game was 2 goals (one pen) and 1 assist and though I don't remember the exact passes completed, shots taken etc I know it was good but not exceptional - though in the match I did see alot of the ball so I would assume my touches on the ball count was above 25/30. No bookings. MoM award.
Was it the manner of the last gasp goal that earnt me the high rating? I've scored a few hat-tricks with my legend and have only scored 7's and 6.5's at best.

So to conclude the rant I stick with my initial comment and those of others - there are so many contributing factors to high ratings that it's better to just concentrate on your game and enjoy.

im playing as a CMF and ive noticed just shooting, on or off target seems to build your rating, my guys shot is awful so i almost always miss the target but say i have 3 shots a game i still average 7+

id would prolly score more if the AI werent dumb feckers, and boring, is it just me or darent they pass it more than 10 foot?

I dont know if the following helps a great deal, but worth a go.

"We’ve been playing the Become a Legend mode since Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 came out, and here are our top tips to getting the most out of every match.

* Adjust your strengths according to your position - You need to adjust your strengths to match the attributes needed by the position of your player. So if you are playing as a winger then you will need to focus on speed, dribbling, and kicking. If you are playing as a centre midfielder you will need to focus on balance, kicking, and power. If you are playing as an attacker you will need to have good kicking, speed, and balance strengths. Defending positions will generally need stamina, power, and balance, however if you are playing as a wing-back you may need a little speed in your strength.
If you need a little help, just think of the top players in real life football who play in your position, and identify their top three to four strengths and adjust your strength blocks to those.
* Stay in your designated area - You need to stay in your designated area in order to pick up good ratings, it is no good if you are a striker who plays too deep in defence, or playing as a center midfielder who spends most of the time on the right wing in the final third of the pitch! If you check your rating>details after each match, you will see where you are spending most of your time on the pitch.
* Pass, pass, pass! - Football is a team game and you will be rewarded a good rating if you make a lot of passes, just make sure they reach the player you are passing too or this could damage your rating.
* Avoid fouls - Playing a game of PES with just one player means you have the danger of making many fouls with the same player, and for every time you get booked three times you will receive a ban, not good for getting into the first team, or keeping a place in the team. Committing fouls also brings down your post-match rating.
* Be the heart of the team - If you play each and every game enthusiastically like it’s a final, making every touch count, closing down every attack then you will be rewarded by getting a good rating. Make every move you do count!
* Shoot on target - At the beginning of your career it is very hard to shoot and score, but the key to remember is that it’s important to shoot on target even if it’s not likely to go in. There is no point making wild or fancy shots when you have poor stats as they will just miss, damaging your post-match rating. Just get each and every shot on goal and you never know, you may get lucky and score a few.
* Play longer matches - If you are in the first team and are playing a tough team, then consider making the match length for 10minutes or over minimum. The longer the match lasts in real time, then the more chances you will get to build your attacks, or calm your defence, meaning you are more likely to get a better result for your player and you team".

I noticed two things this weekend which show that there are in fact problems with the rating system:

1. I scored a beautiful winning goal which went off the post and in. It was my only shot of the game. At the end my rating report said I had one shot and zero on target (but also 1 goal). I saved the review and watched it numerous times... nothing fishy which should have caused this except the fact that the ball went off the post and in.

2. It seems that the game doesn't take crosses into the box which are not touched by your own players as a good thing (offensive plays which are part of your role as a side player). In fantasista it was clear that as a winger or SMF I was expected to try to whip those crosses in, whether they were intercepted or not. In other words, Fantasista had a tally of crosses, but in BAL it seems like you are not rewarded for getting multiple crosses in, because it brings down your total passing accuracy greatly if your team mates fail to get a head in on numerous occassions. Crosses are always dangerous, and as a SMF/WF I want to feel I'm not being punished for trying them.

I am officially irritated with this game!!! I am playing RW for Newcastle and every time we are being dominated, which means less touches on the wings, I am a guaranteed 5.5! When a team is controlling the ball, it is very difficult to get the touches you need to get a decent score. But alas, it is back to the training grounds for me.

I noticed when you play CF or RW for a team struggling, hence a team which leads to less touches, you will struggle to receive a good rating. I am wondering if most of you receiving high marks is because you play AMF or a position that allows for more touches. I am wondering, in a more center field position, it makes it a lot easier to have touches and be a part of the game, thus influencing it enough to receive higher marks.

But whatever the case may be, this game has pissed me way off tonight. I can't believe how shite the ratings system can be at times. I think Konami and Seabass, or Sea-ass, should rename "Become a Legend" to "Become a Really Mediocre Player Who Will Sit on His Butt Because of the Shite Ratings System."

Sorry for the rant. Just really irritated at the moment.

Just get a yellow card and " despite such an excellent performance,it was unlucky he was issued with a card." something like that ^^ , joking !
pass the ball around make accurate passes should do the trick

^And the biggest one is: how many times they will pass the ball to you. That's how you get involved in the match.

I also play RWF for Newcastle... One thing I have found lately is that if I move more into the center of the pitch and get more involved with the play, getting say 25-30 touches on the ball or more, then my ratings are better. From what I have seen in my testing I don't think your ratings suffer much when you are playing out of position. It's worse to be waiting out on the wing and not being involved with the play. Also, if you come into the center and even switch wings, it confuses the CPU defenders, and often leads to great chances and breakaways.

It seems to be working, but I've only tried it in four games so far, scored one and assisted one, got ratings of 7, 6, 6, and 7. That's good enough for me anyway, as long as I don't get those 5.5s. The 7.5 and 8+ rataings will come in exceptional games I think if I keep playing this way, I hope.

I aggree with you. No matter which role are you playing, you can move close to the ball and request it. So you can touch more on the ball, be more in the game and get good ratings. Oppositely, waiting out for the ball is punished by the game's rating system.
Also, if you come into the center and even switch wings, it confuses the CPU defenders, and often leads to great chances and breakaways.
Yes, but also confuses your teammates if you wandering around. Your teammates can not give the ball when you running a lot. I think computer can't analyze the quick runs.

I played whole game with this way. I have 6.98 average rating.(in my 9th season) I never saw a rating less than 6.0 or above 8.0.(often between 6.5 and 7.5, 6.0 and 8.0 is also very rare) I think there must be another way for 8+ rating.

I think I owe this thread an apology...

I scored a hat-trick, bagged an assist, completed 20 of 22 passes, 3 interceptions, 32 touches on the ball, dribbled over 200 no probs, and no fouls. My rating 7.0
Now don't get me wrong, I was still the best rated player as I got the MoM award but for me I had a near perfect game. Even looking at the areas I covered on the pitch I fulfilled my role no question. I figured the performance was worth a 7.5 at least...

The only thing I can think of that went against me was that I was substituted on the 63rd minute (wtf gaffer?!?)

my legend is a WF on top player. Looks like the rating system is a touch flawed..

I scored a hat trick in my 2nd season and only got a 7.0. I believe the rating system is good but sometiems cheats. But this is certainly true. The more the teamates pass the ball to you, the higher your ratign will be.

The ratings do seem to be strange to grasp for me as well. E.g. I can have what I consider to be an average game with no goals, assists or intercepts and get subbed around the 70 min mark and I still manage to get a 7 rating!?

My best game I scored a hat-trick and got 2 assists in a 5-0 win, I also had at least 4 interceptions and got just a 7.5. Yet I have picked up a few 8's this season and have'nt got a clue why.

My ratings for Wales are shit hot on the other hand, never had below a 7. But I think thats because my teamates are so utter shite that I have to literally build every attack, from back to front (I am a SS/CF). Im top of the ratings for national teams with a 7.49 average. My club average is about 6.8.

Well Im baffeld now...
I was playing in Napoli and managed 5 goals against Atalanta on Top Player.....
I was ecstatic thats the most ive ever scored in 1 game at that level....and gues what I only got a 7.5

I shot 5 shots all on target and all Goals
Napoli as a team only shot 5 shots (my shots)

I thought id get a 10!!!!

my only explanation is that Napoli as a team played poorly but hell i scored 5 goal i should gte a 10!
