BAL MODE - How to get good ratings - idea's thread

hi guys, i have read lots of thread on the become a legend mode, and bits here and there regarding the rating system, so i thought i would create a thread where we can discuss the rating system, and more importantly, how to get a good rating!

i think most of us would agree, the rating system is not the best, especially now that its important in BAL mode

so please feel free to add and discuss various things that effect the rating

the basics :

we all know that getting your shots on target and completing passes are important, not loosing the ball, and interceptions are also important, but what else

playing your position - if your a a CF or SS you dont want to be tracking back all the time, you might be winning the ball back, but you wont be in any position to score goals, likewise, you dont want to be goal hanging as a DM and leaving your team open, but how much does this effect your ratings do you think ?

touches of the ball - so more touches would be better we presume, being involved is a good thing, but if you take that number, minus your shot attempts and pass attempts then the resulting number should equal how many times you lost the ball, ie: being tackled, but are you penalised for lets say a pass deflecting off you, would that be considered losing the ball

would you get a higher rating for scoring a goal as a CM than you would a CF? due to the fact your expected to score? or higher if your a CF because thats your job?

same goes for lets say dribbling, as a WF would you be expected to dribble more, so therefore get higher ratings than a DM dribbling

is the system intelligent enough to separate those things or does the system not care if your a DM scoring or CF scoring and gives the same +rating for either

does the team your playing for matter? do you get a higher rating scoring a hatrick for Stoke as you would for liverpool ?

does the time spent on the game matter? playing longer matches on average give you better ratings?

alot of these questions and remarks are obvious if it was real football and you had to give ratings, but we know PES does not always work like that

please discuss your thoughts and add as much as you wish, please leave behind how you think it should work based on real football, and just discuss how the PES system works

any testing is welcome, for instance, i got a rating of 5.5 by standing in the centre circle for the entire match (i went to get a cup of tea) :)

so, all that being said, let the discussion begin :)

i was thinking, if anyone gets a good game, say 7.5 or more and has the ability to post screen shots, then do so, it will allow us to build a picture of the rating system

one of the biggest points up for discussion is how much these things effect the rating, is a shot on target a bigger plus to your rating than say a pass complete, is a assist the same as a goal , etc etc

when posting, please note what position your playing, to see how it effects the rating also

wow, some very good points, and questions you have asked there Rafiky77. I would love to know the answers to them. I haven't done any testing of my own, i just know the basics (completing passes, shots on target, interceptions, and assists).

I'll get back on some of the questions you asked, but for now I'll add that I received 2 ratings of 8.0 when coming on as a sub for Israel. I scored in both games and had plenty of energy to expel, so ran everywhere, tracking back, running back upfield but didn't really touch the ball other than the goal, so I too question the rating system.

well i don't know the truth really, but when i came on as a sub, it is really easy for me to get 7.0 and above rating even though i didn't got any assist or goal... but when i started a match, it is hard for me to get 7.0 and above rating... maybe thats a start for me to research more about that...

btw- my style of playing is running the whole pitch, even though my stamina is zero...

I tend to just run around like a headless chicken and try not to get booked. That bumps my ratings up. I'm a regular for Aston Villa now, still in my 1st season. Iplay SS but the manager sticks me upfront. The highest rating I've had so far was 9.0, that was a sub appearance when I came on and scored 2 goals in 10 minutes.

Im confused just as u are Rafiky.
I've had games were i scored two goals and got a rating of 6.5...
I've never gotten a rating above 8 though....
I'm a CF on top Player
However, what i did find out is that rating has nothing to do with match experince points....I ve got match experience points while getting a rating of 6 and got non while playing a 7....All I can say here that it has to do with how much u use certain skills in the game...if u shoot 20 shots per game ull get match experince even if they are all off target and ur getting a 6....

its depressing if thats the case Manga, meaning your better off shooting from anywhere than encouraging good teamwork

the whole match exp is confusing as well

although my TV i use is so old, its hard to even see any red on my screen lol

so DJ , you dont really stay up front and track all the way back to win the ball back all the time ?

I do mate cause I get so frustrated with my players running away from the bloody ball. Shows that your working hard and you can see that at the end of the game when you check your ratings. Tracking back to win the ball isn't good for the GK or another player clears the ball. My player is usually outta steam by about 70 mins (if I start the match).

i know what you mean DJ, its frustrating watching the inept AI and you get to thinking "oh screw it, i will go win it back" lol

i find that if i have 25+ touches on the ball and make at least ten passes i don't get too bad a rating. it is well stingy though... assists give you better ratings than goals as well...

and a tip, if it's on auto save and you get sent off just turn the console off. you'll lose 3-0 but you wont have to sit out any games.

Is it possible to get a higer rating than 8?
I never had one.
tried matches at regular scoring 5 goals and getting 8 but also tried on top player winnin 3-0 scoring 1 and gave 2 assist but also only 8:S
I play as CF.

I play as a CMF, and i know that interceptions really boost the rating.

Once i had an assist but only 1 interception, my rating was 6.0 or 6.5

People need to also be posting in their answers what level of difficulty they are on. I experimented with this myself, and can say with certainty for me anyway that playing on top player means lower average ratings over a season compared to playing on professional. Haven't tried any of the lower difficulties yet though. Also, I played a lot of Fantasista, and from that I was able to determine that there are benchmarks. For example, in Fantasista 10 passes would get you a better rating than 9, and 5 tackles better than 4, etc. I'm not certain that this is the case in BAL so far,but I am working on a graph charting my performance over a whole season, and that so far seems to show it is the same.

here's what i'm 99% sure of.

I'm a CM on Top Player.

-First off getting subbed out brings your rating down at least .5 (I can guarantee this) One game I scored and only had two missed passes and got a 6.5 next game I play the whole game had about the same passing stats with no goal and got a 7.0
-The team that wins will get high rankings (exception is players who scored on losing team)
-Interceptions are pivotal for CM. Getting 5+ interceptions makes up for any lack of passing.
-Shot on target boost, shots off target either hinder or have no affect.

I still haven't been able to decide whether touches or playing area has any effect on the rating.

Lastly, I've had reason to believe that taking corner kicks and free kicks ups your rating. Due to the fact that i check the players with the highest rankings on both teams and they tend to be FK takers. I'm not for sure on this, but there seems to be a correlation.

interesting and good post Mark

i dont think playing area matters much, some CF's play off the last man, and some run around the whole pitch and that does not seem to have any effect, other than the guy who runs around tracking back is more likely to get a higher rating due to more interceptions

i dont think my stats will ever be good enough to be the FK taker, i started at FK accuracy of 59

i wonder how much rating you lose for losing the ball if any

I get good ratings almost every match, and my tactic is very simple.

I play as a left footed right winger, although Spurs use me on right midfield due to the fact that they play 4-4-2.
Every match I simply "assign" myself to a rather "free role" type of player, roaming over to the left flank, back and forth while doing random runs behind the defense from the centre when the opportunity arise.
This way I get a lot of goal scoring opportunities 1 on 1 with the keeper, I get a lot of crosses into the box, and much ball contact during a game.

Due to all this running I never last the full 90 mins, even if my stamina is pushing 90 or early 90's (can't quite remember right now).
But the second season I lasted about 70 mins, and in the second half of 4th season i manage 80 mins with extreme work rate both offensive and defensive now.

Defensively I am much more stamina restrictive than offensive, I stick to player marking and only sprinting to avoid crosses into my box when my talentless right back screw up (he does that a lot)
"DO NOT CHASE THE BALL" when the opposition is not under heavy pressure, even when they are under pressure I rather try to read where their next pass is going and running like mad to intercept the pass with a sliding tackle.

If I play like this and accomplish nothing special during a game, it's usually a 7 or even 7.5, if I bag a goal or two it's always a 7.5 or 8.

Crosses going straight to defenders does not seem to count as a faulty pass, cuz I got LOADS of those every game... about 95% of my crosses infact.

I once cam on as sub for Argentina in the 75th-ish minute and bagged a hat-trick and still "only" got an 8.
- 2 headers from corner and a long shot via the center back. and they were all luck I guess, my toon is 1.71m and can't hit a barn door from 10 feet.

Personally I think the rating system is broken, just like MANY other aspects of this game.
I'm not going to mention all the flaws here, but key flaws is the player teams AI, the referee deals more cards than a black jack dealer in Vegas and players on all teams seem to lose the ball without putting too much effort into keeping it. (the last one goes for both AI team and player team)

edit: I play on Top Player (wich really isn't much harder than regular, just better)
