BAL MODE - How to get good ratings - idea's thread

I've been doing some testing on this with a mate. We'd start an exhibition game on amateur and just pass the ball around the defenders with some players (trying our best not to make mistakes) and then with others purposefully playing shite balls, losing it and never intercepting.

As was to be expected the ratings were according to who passed better etc.

Then we thought well what if we take these players out of position, so continuously chased the ball with one player (a defender) but not actually getting the ball (or very rarely) for the entire game, while also using another to win the ball as much as possible.

The results of this were weird, both received the same 7.5 rating. So basically we assume it comes down to your involvement in the game and the proximity to the ball regardless of the fact you are out of position. In the end when we viewed the stats of these 2 players pretty much the whole pitch was covered in green to display where we'd ran, whereas the 2 (COM controlled) defenders who stayed in position got 5.5 and 6.0 and covered nothing.

So yeah, we'll play around with the midfield next, but I wouldn't bet on the results being different.

I think the key thing for a CMF is "touches on the ball". Screenshots are below, you understand what I mean. First one is 8.0 rating in Barca, second one is 7.5 rating in Turkey.
I am a CMF in Barca and Turkey. I play 10 min matches in regular difficulty.

8.0 rating stats:

7.5 rating stats:

number of intercepts can be a factor here too

Yes, but number of intercepts also means touches on the ball. 2 more intercepts or 2 more passes. No matter which one is. The important thing is touching on the ball.

There is another 8.0 rating:

3 intercepts again but 33 touches on the ball and in less minutes(76 min). I think, this makes the difference between the 7.5 rating example.

shots on target, free kick wins and corner kick wins are factors too.

I know this for sure coz once, a fellow CM had a very similar no. of passes and touches of ball, etc. Only difference was he won more corners and FK. He got 0.5 higher than mine.

Intelligent passes?
What do you mean? Through balls that open up the field?

I've noticed something on Ps3 that sometimes some of my on target shots are counted as off target...anyone else get this?

Also I'm still not sure what can help my striker rating...I know for sure that Offsides and Yellow Cards kill my striker rating

^I meant through balls that create a chance at goal or cross. That really counts in the final rating.

there isn't going to be a "short-cut" to guarantee high ratings i.e I complete 20 passes in a match and I'm guaranteed a 6.5 or something. It's a combination of all the factors some obvious and some less so.
Distance dribbled is perhaps a less obvious one but anything over 200 in conjunction with shots on target, completed passes, interceptions, goals, assists, free-kicks, corners, pen's etc seems to have a positive effect. It's performing well in ALL of these categories that will ensure a high-rating such as an 8.0 or more.

The time played is also a factor, which is why alot of players have found high ratings when only playing in the last parts of a game, but again it's weighed against the stats mentioned above.
The only things that are for certain is fouls (bookable or otherwise) definitely have a negative impact on the rating. 0.5 off for a yellow and 1.0 off for a red seems to be the general consensus.

Be mindful of your role, hope the AI backs you when it needs to (a little prompt with R2 now and again doesn't go amiss) and try and be an integral part of the team. The more positive effect you have on the game, the more your team mates will use you, giving you more chances on the ball and more chances to put in that killer pass or goal.

Forget looking for the easy route to high ratings - play your arse off and earn them ;)

the best way i get good rating is make sure every pass you make goes to one of your players just make sure you compleate your passes, i came on in a game at the 75th minute made 7/7 passes 1 shot off target and got man of the match + m.i.p in the game with 7.5 rating,
then on an other match i played 90 mins made 31 passes compleated 28 had 3 shots 2 on target only got 6.0 rating,

I thought I had noticed this too, but I went back to the replays of the game and analyzed my shot... The keeper saved it, but on further review, if he hadn't it would have just barely missed the net. This is an example of the AI knowing too much. Maybe your case was different, but next time it happens try to check the replays and see. I would have sworn mine was on target, but there it was in the replay... I bet the CPU can even tell if it was going to hit the post but not go in, and that they wouldn't count that as a shot on net.

I agree, but I think its great that we can share ideas on this. There is definitely something slightly buggered with the ratings system. I think we have all had games where we thought we did pretty well and got a shite rating, and vice versa. My aim isn't to learn an easy way to get better ratings, but maybe some things I can do to prevent getting terrible ones which I don't think I deserved.

However, for the most part I find the best way to get good ratings is to tell myself not to care about the ratings. Sometimes, though, what ends up happening when I do that is that I play well and end up with a bad rating. This frustrates the heck out of me, and if there is something someone can suggest to help, like maybe defining standards for each position and what the averages are for each statistic to get what rating, then that would really help.

There are definitely questions left to be answered, such as:

- Is there a set number to reach for a positive effect on the ratings (i.e. is 14 worth a lot less than 15 completed passes)?

- What determines "match exp"? I have got some when I thought I shouldn't (low rating) and sometimes not got any when I thought I should.

I'm in the second season and getting high ratings is easier. Your player will get better and you'll find it easier. Also the 8.0 rating will be given to you after the first season. I just got it. In the first season, no matter what I did, I always ended with a 7.5 maximum.

Yes, I agree with that.
In my opinion, more touches on the ball is very effective on high ratings. I didn't see any rating less than 7.5 when your touches on the ball has been 40+ And this is not a easy thing to do.

Moreover; touches on the ball means more FKs,CKs, passes, intercepts and distances dribbled. I mean, how can you increase your touches on the ball?

I only think that; no matter which one is more, just make more touches on the ball. And be as much as in the game :)

Be mindful of your role, hope the AI backs you when it needs to

I doubt in that. But I do hope anyway :)

Hi there, just a comment I have the perception that if you make the plays of the game your rating increases to max, lets explain:

1.- You score the goal in a 1 - 0 match you get an 8 if you played all the game, but if you just play 15 minutes of it you will get a 8.5

2.- Your team was losing for 2 goals, you enter in the second half and score one goal an one pass to another goal you get a 8.5, you score 2 or 3 goals you get a 9.

3.- The game is 1 to 0 winning and you enter an recover balls in your own goal, you get an 8.

4.- You just pass the ball all the game but no score no pass to goal, no important recovers you get maximums a 6.5

5.- You run all the field, recover balls and have one or two shots on goal in a 0 to 0 game you can get maximums an 8.

Thats what is happening to me in pro mode.
