As per a request from ThierryHenry14 which some of you have seen evidenced in the messing around that took part in Spammers Paradise earlier, user tagging should be working fully in a few hours from now.
This is achieved using Twitter-style @ followed by a username but there are limitations.
You cannot tag my current username because of the character : being part of it and even if you use the roundabout MENTION tag, there is a chance that I will not receive a notification. Similarly, it would appear that any attempts to tag ThierryHenry14 will tag ThierryHenry instead so you'll need to be mindful of that. Tagging yourself will not trigger a notification.
As this is enabled, so will be automatic notifications when one of your posts is quoted by another member.
In order to get this working I not only had to install the plugin for it, I had to fill in parts of the installation it didn't successfully apply due to customised skins.
This involved copying an old skin to a new one, reverting that back to vBulletin defaults, finding out where all of the snippets of coding for the default vBulletin notification system which had been removed from the various customised skins (including Default PESGaming) is located and then applying this coding in order to re-introduce the notification system to all of them.
What I'm trying to get at is the fact that what appear like minor changes to the forum which you might feel the admins are sometimes too lazy to work on aren't necessarily as straightforward, easy or quick as you believe they are.
Going back and editing previous tags/mentions is unlikely to generate a new notification even if you are simply correcting one you had typed incorrectly. The system isn't 100% perfect.
Update: This is enabled now for both tags and people quoting your posts.
Please use it sensibly: don't needlessly tag hundreds of people in a post or one user in hundreds of posts. Anyone found to be needlessly annoying users will be banned.
When viewing the list of mentions you have received, click on the forum that it says it was posted under to jump to the relevant post.
