Ribery is not overrated. He has been over the past five or six years, and still is, one of the world's best wingers. Robben isn't overrated in the sense that he's also that good when playing well. It's just that we don't always see that from him, from a combination of injuries and not always having his head in the right space.
I think we can just all agree that Obafemi Martins is crap.
At least I see Bayern players actually play.
Being a fan of a team doesn't mean that one can't be objective about the players of that team. At least to some extent.
I don't watch CL games consistently.
I willing to step down with my arguments anyway, due to the fact that pretty much everyone disagrees with me .
Let's move on to Robben. What would you say about him? He was hit and miss at Chelsea, and although he has progressed since then, from what I've seen of him, he is very much the same. Every now and then he'll do something amazing..... but a lot of the time he seems to look very average to me.
Oh, btw Bite.Me - you can use the edit button instead of posting more than once in succession. Or us the multiquote button - ", if you want to quote more than 1 post.
Let's bring some facts in:
Yes, some players are ridicously overrated, while others (mostly small leagues players') are tremendously underrated.
You did choose a poor example in Martins.
His shot power has been one of top ones recorded ever in the PL, (I think of current PL, van Persie is the one who recorded the fastest shot).
Top speed and Messi also don't go along way... he clearly doesn't have top level speed.
In fairness, that was 6 years ago. I don't think he has done anything of note since.

Alright mate, no need to have a dig. I'm allowed to have an opinion, I can only base my opinions on what I've seen, can't I?
You're not a Bayern fan by any chance, are you? You seem to feel very passionately about this.
Well I have a lot of opinions on overrated players, but the top underrated player even at his young age is chamberlain, he's strong, fast, a good dribbler, can score goals, he's a beast, yet he's ratings are awful.. Dribbling at 81 I think it was? It should be 87, body balance is also way too low, pato and messi are overrated, messi is not fast at all, he's just runs faster than most with the ball coz he's so short, I also believe that there should be a proper mentalility rating which effects performance significantly, but is affected throughout a match, so first 70 minutes mentality could be low, then all of a sudden player could find some motivation and his mental rise, making his stats slightly higher, then it could go back down at 83 minutes, i feel it's more reflective, also if one scores a goal, that could spur a 15 minute flurry of attacks, as usually seen on tv..
Indeed you are so and I shall defend your right to have an opinion and I shall defend your right to this benighted postulation.
Although I think perchance you have been somewhat 777 esque in the sweeping castigations of said players. I wouldn't class the team of the tournament as an entirely accurate gauging of the team of the tournament (Totti was dross at WC2006 and dropped after the 2nd group game I believe).
I seem to recall Ribery had a very good game against Spain in the knock out stages of WC2006, a game France won 3-1. Horses for courses I know.

A shit player can have better shot power than a great player, and better pace. The thing that makes the difference is how they use these attributes. With regards to shot power - Ronaldo (for example) is powerful AND accurate, which is what makes him one of the best. Messi isn't that powerful, but again he's VERY accurate and clinical.
Martins could have more power than those players, but that doesn't make him better.
Same with pace. Messi is fast, but not the fastest in the world by a long shot. The thing that stands him above the rest is his amazing ball control and balance.
Remember Dennis Rommedahl? Decent player, but hardly set the world alight. In his peak, he was regarded as one of the fastest players in the world, but that didn't make him the best.
I didn't compare Martins with Messi in terms of shot power...I said Sneijder and Lampard
