General Demo Discussion/Impressions

Frame Rate Issues....Unfinished Product

The demo is sure a step forward but lacks a lot of basics.

My impressions are as follows:-

Frame Rate Issues:-
There is a huge problem with the fox engine if it offers such a low and degraded frame rate. PES 2013 had a better frame rate.

Sluggish, AI Controlled Animations:-
The animations have improved but are very sluggish. Players take a lot of time to turn or change directions. Baby step running animations are horrible. The AI controls the player animations and most times does more than what i wanted ...hence me losing the ball.

Passive Shooting:-
The power is gone from shooting. They seem to have adapted the floating shooting from Fifa 10.

No Running Speed:-
I have found it difficult to outrun defenders playing with ManCity...however Xavi on Spain is a beast. His burst of speed will prove problems. Barca and Spain will be chosen again everytime....

I can go on ....

The demo is the first step in the right direction ...but unfortunately ..unfinished and a couple years too late.

The King is Back ...Part III

Ok here's a couple of thoughts that I think are important. I've heard both positive and negative comments about the demo and I kept wondering how opinions could be so divided. I downloaded the American demo last night and played about 10 games on it. I felt so disappointed. Everything was sluggish, the commands were not as responsive as PES 2013, the menus were slow, the passes were wrong, etc. I could not believe it, but I read a lot of comments of other people thinking the same.

Today I downloaded the European demo (which I downloaded from the Spanish PSN store) and it is VERY different. Both play at roughly the same speed, but the controls are much tighter and everything just seems smoother. In other words, it was much more playable. The American demo reminded me a lot of the first PES 2013 demo last year that had problems with the control responsiveness, and the European version was leaps and bounds better. I played another 10 really satisfactory games (I could not stop myself, which was not the case at all with the American version).

So just for the sake of it I decided to download the Japanese demo to check if there were any differences.

The Japanese demo plays much faster. Everything seems more frenetic about it. Whereas in the American and the European versions you are forced to slow down, receive the passes, control and then not come out as if your player is a missile, in the Japanese version there was no incentive to do this. On the contrary, it was as if I was actually encouraged to keep my finger on the R1 button. Controls were a little tighter than the American version, but not as much as the European version. I played 5 games, but I did not like it as much as the European one. The European version plays the best to me because I feel that I have more control over everything, that I can plan my attacks better and that I can do almost anything that crosses my mind. In the Japanese version this was not the case because everything was too fast and frenetic, and in the American version doing anything was just impossible because the controls simply did not respond.

So, I know all versions are labelled "Demo 2", but I have a feeling that within that "2" there were different versions: Version 1.0 (American), 1.5 (Japanese) and 2.0 (European) as they stand right now. Even the European is still a little sluggish in terms of control response, so I hope that they work that out for the final release.

For those who downloaded the American version trying to get a feeling of PES 2014 as soon as possible, download the European version and see if it is better. It was MUCH better for me. I hope this helps.

Are you saying that European version of the game plays differently than the American version ? I downloaded American version as it was released quicker on the PSN but I get the BLES (European version) of the games.

I tried pushing all the buttons the dots did not go away, only had 4 games so far so will play some more later to see if I can get them off. The game feels about 80% finished, hope this is not the final version...[/QUOTE]

Hi

I believe the option to disable the dots is in the "Player Assistance Settings"?

This may have already been published but i'm only on page 2 of this topic.

the us version frame rate is awful and kills the game flow of the game, also the button pressing seems to have a delay. i hope this is just demo issues, because it really ruins it for me. way too frustrating when playing.

Are you saying that European version of the game plays differently than the American version ?

I am saying exactly that. I downloaded the American version from the US PSN and the European one from a Spanish PSN account, and they were both different. Even their sizes are different, the European one is like a hundred MB bigger I think.

It's a video game. It's simply impossible to control every movement of a players body. It's a gimmick that will have no use in the middle of a match.

This.

As I said before I neither have the time, dexterity, or inclination to learn body weight shifting among all the other countless silly things in this game. All it does is take away from the football. This isn't Mortal Street Fighter. This is supposed to be a football game about football, not ridiculously over complicated skills, or shifting a players body weight whilst trying to make another player create space for you ffs.

After being a long time fan of the series, I think I'm done with it. All this pissing around and button bashing is a fucking joke, and yes, I'm pissed.

That's the reason why i don't play demos.... every years the same bullshit. and after the release of the full game wait for a couple of weeks, patches and updates will follow, and then buy and enjoy it (patched and updated) without worries about demo ;-)

There are so many other things (more important than so fucking crazy problems regarding a demo!) for life, guys

It is happening again
Ok, I finally got around to playing the demo last night. Overall impressions - much better, but still not quite there for me. 6/10

I will give it another go tonight, but for me the king is certainly not back.

It took me a while to get used to the slightly slower gameplay, but after I did I started finding some of the same problems to previous PES games. A few observations:

- They obviously have some specialised commentary relating to the players skill cards (or whatever they are in this game... didn't really investigate). I think the commentator said something along the lines of "_____ who is great at covering"..... reminded me of the comical "master of unlocking" comment from Resident Evil. And of course, when they're coming out mentioning that Ronaldo can't hurt you with his back to goal, you know there's a problem!

- Scripting - didn't notice a lot of it, but there was one moment which was really obvious. Daniele De Rossi suddenly came up with some Iniesta style dribbling moves, sidestepped his was round 3 of my players in quick succession and passed it out to the wing. The player crossed it in and it came to my defender. I pressed the clear button hoping he'd boot it clear, but instead the ball bounced off him, straight to the opposition's attack who hit it into the net first time.

- Player ratings - how the fuck is Pizarro better than Mandzukic?

So... yeah, not majorly impressed but willing to give it another go.

sitting here playing pes 6 to to try and figure out what exactly is missing from pes 14. gameplay seems to be on the right path, but pes14 is way too slow, the game flow isn't there because of the bad frame rate, and some of the players are just way faster with speed burst than they should be. if they can fix the slow down and speed the game up a bit, i can see it being close to pes 6

Having played for a second time I'm starting to agree more with the majority that it is a big step up. Was not sure after the first play but I did rush into it, not properly setting up controls, managing team etc...

I actually like the slower pace of the game, feels more authentic to me! Did anyone watch the England vs Ukraine game? Well I can tell you now, that game was about 10 times slower than what PES14 is!

I feel the slower pace is more accurate in terms of the real life game. It makes you build up play and look for openings. Its harder now to pass past a player, it hits them more often so you have to work out a strategy to get forward. I'm really liking this and I think bad players will be found out. In 13 all they had to do was through ball to Ronaldo and they are in, I really don't see that happening here.

The dots on set pieces are terrible, no idea who thought to add that in, like going back to old 90's FIFA days! PES invented brilliant set pieces and im disappointed they are not sticking to their roots. I know it can be turned off but I just think it shouldnt be there anyway!

It still does feel, like most have said 90% finished. Adam on Twitter was taking feedback, back to Konami to get a patch hopefully, who knows if this demo is the final version anyway?

On a side note, has anyone played the FIFA demo? Wow, I was not a FIFA fan but WTF? I know people said PES is too slow but everyone is on overdrive in that game, feels terrible to me and its clear EA are milking the same game to get as much money as possible. I usually give both demos a good go before I decide which to get and couldnt even finish a game, was truly terrible in my opinion, are people brainwashed?

The first thing I noticed is like what wallpaper said, opponents capture passes far more easily compared to previous versions. As a result, I find it quite difficult to pass the ball around when playing with 0 passing assistance bars. I was wondering, which passing settings do you guys use normally? As I might be switching to assisted passing for now until I am more used to the game.

Ok, .... The player crossed it in and it came to my defender. I pressed the clear button hoping he'd boot it clear, but instead the ball bounced off him, straight to the opposition's attack who hit it into the net first time.

Do you mean something like this >>>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbSx_xCBudg

I am experiencing problems where defenders just stand and ball watch and refuse to make a tackle ....and after saving the first attempt on my goal......the keeper just stands there and watch the game until the opponent scores. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRw5JboAkig

Cursor changes are confusing and...I am not certain at points that i am controlling my players at all.

I hear it is only in the US version ....so i will download the EU version today and test it out.

peace

Is there really a difference between US and UK version? Any proof of this?

I am wondering also.......I live in the US but have two accounts because of the same back and forth every year of which is better or different.

I will try the UK ver. later today and send some feedback.

One thing that I'm absolutely hating about this game is you can hardly use the through ball button to build up play. What I mean by this is when you a squaring a pass to someone so they can come on to the ball with a bit of momentum and also you can use it if your man is being marked and to knock it slightly ahead of them but now it's pointless in tight situations and you just have to use static X passing.. I use this a lot in football games so I'm gutted its broken for PES 14, the accuracy now is absolutely shite knocking it too far in front of your player nearly every time.
Really disappointed about this.

Really disappointed about this.

I know what you mean but I find it a bit more realistic, harder to build play. Means more midfield passing to find space. I've still managed to use it on the counter.

I think the whole thing feels a lot more true to life, but with that comes more frustration. A lot of games finish 0-0 1-0 1-1 etc in 90 real minutes. I think the closer we get to realism the harder the games will get and quick easy passing that we are used to will disappear. There has to be a balance though!

It still works and I still use it but it's a joke how over hit they are even when you tap it. When players like Pirlo struggle to pass it to someone right next to them just in front of the player then you know there is a problem.

The official Konami PES website has lots of advertising but no real details. Am I just missing it or is there no PC demo? I tried to look at the news section of the Konami PES website but there is nothing I care about there. Thanks.
