I am shocked, Ockrass stating FIFA remains unbeaten ;)

For what it's worth, my opinion is go ahead a buy FIFA if you like ice skating and kicking a fly away plastic ball.

Agreed! I guess everyone should just buy what they want. If you like fifa better....enjoy!

Did anyone watch the England vs Ukraine game? Well I can tell you now, that game was about 10 times slower than what PES14 is!

Well to be fair that was because both teams where/are awful so they could hardly string 3 passes together. I watched Spain vs Chile the same night and the difference in both tempo and technical quality was staggering.

Anyway, I agree with you that a slower pace is preferable in football games. Hopefully it will discourage people through-ball spamming and running down the wing with Ronaldo or Walcott all the time when playing online.

One thing though, does anybody else think that it takes to long to power-up passes when playing with no assistance? If you want to play a 20 yard pass it the power gauge will take to long to load up IMO, and the pass will get cut out or your player will be disposed.

here is the super fast sprint rush controlled by the CPU and not the person playing.... They better fix this !

http://i.minus.com/ib2yX1zW0tQira.gif

I don't see what the problem is there, the player is just tracking back to help his team defend. If a player has the energy to do it then it's possible to sprint back that fast. Of course the CPU is controlling that player, you can't control all 11 of your players can you? Isn't intelligent movement by your AI teammates a good thing?

EDIT:

Has anybody noticed that there is no separate pass assistance settings for both normal passes and through-balls? Because I like to play with no assistance when playing normal passes but this setting also affects your through-balls, making through-balls inaccurate, unpowerful and simply ineffective.

Didn't there used to be separate settings for both passing and through-balls? I have had to put my passing back on to assisted so I can actually complete through-balls.

What's the problem? Have you ever watched a team like Dortmund or Bayern play? In situations were there pressing high up the field has been bypassed, they will often sprint back into a defensive position behind the ball. They do this at an incredible speed too. The player really isn't running that fast, most professional footballers, especially attacking players can run as fast as that or faster (as long as they aren't knackered).

It would only be a problem and look out of place if players were chasing back like that all game because players would get fatigued in real life by chasing back that fast on every other minute.

Also, notice that the player is running towards the player with the ball but the ball-carrier shifts out of his way, so the player decides it's a lost cause to try and disposes him and gets back behind the ball, he actually runs close to the player he passes it to so applies extra pressure on that player too. It's actually very realistic, if I was a manager that is the kind of off-the-ball work I would want my players to do.

It is happening again
Ok, so I go through on goal with Van Persie, defenders chasing me behind. I'm constantly holding R1. As the defenders get closer to me, he decides to slow down for no reason whatsoever to allow the defender to nick the ball off him. Complete and utter bollocks.

Just played a few games on the ps3 Euro demo...

Why is it so damn sluggish, response/controls wise ?

The GoalKeepers are superb though, finally. They are much quicker coming off their line, they are now better shot stoppers and I like the way they dominate their area at set pieces, sometimes they even punch the ball if they can't catch it. The animations for the likes of GoalKicks and passing it out to a defender are much better as well.

I even seen a save with their feet.

US Demo Impressions

Wow, this game is absolutely amazing.

The animations, visuals and gameplay are spot on. Dribbling, passing, shooting - all feels great.

PES has reclaimed the footballing crown!

I love the fact you can direct off the ball runs at will.

I can't go back to FIFA 14. It's such a shame there isn't a PS4 version of this game.

Now PES 14 is by no means a perfect game. The interface and menus are horrible. The commentary is dire. The lack of licenses are disappointing. But the core gameplay has impressed me. It looks like real football, and feels like real football.

However on occasions I feel the collision detection is somewhat weird. I honestly don't have many complaints because it reminds me of the PS2 versions of the game, and those were the best footy games I have played.

My only issue is that shooting feels a bit weak (unless you are in the box). Long range shots suck.

I'm surprised at the negativity in this thread. Have we all played different games? FIFA 14 feels incredibly sluggish to me. The game speed of FIFA 14 is faster yet the players react slow. Also, the ball seems like it is made out of lead. Granted I have no idea what the UK PES 14 demo is like but I hope the final game is as refined as the US demo, which in all honestly, is pretty great.

Having played for a second time I'm starting to agree more with the majority that it is a big step up. Was not sure after the first play but I did rush into it, not properly setting up controls, managing team etc...

I actually like the slower pace of the game, feels more authentic to me! Did anyone watch the England vs Ukraine game? Well I can tell you now, that game was about 10 times slower than what PES14 is!

I feel the slower pace is more accurate in terms of the real life game. It makes you build up play and look for openings. Its harder now to pass past a player, it hits them more often so you have to work out a strategy to get forward. I'm really liking this and I think bad players will be found out. In 13 all they had to do was through ball to Ronaldo and they are in, I really don't see that happening here.

The dots on set pieces are terrible, no idea who thought to add that in, like going back to old 90's FIFA days! PES invented brilliant set pieces and im disappointed they are not sticking to their roots. I know it can be turned off but I just think it shouldnt be there anyway!

It still does feel, like most have said 90% finished. Adam on Twitter was taking feedback, back to Konami to get a patch hopefully, who knows if this demo is the final version anyway?

On a side note, has anyone played the FIFA demo? Wow, I was not a FIFA fan but WTF? I know people said PES is too slow but everyone is on overdrive in that game, feels terrible to me and its clear EA are milking the same game to get as much money as possible. I usually give both demos a good go before I decide which to get and couldnt even finish a game, was truly terrible in my opinion, are people brainwashed?
I agree.

I've tried FIFA and PES back to back but goddamn, FIFA 14 feels awful in every conceivable way.

FIFA is all style but no substance.

PES is no style, but all substance.

Gameplay is king, and PES beats FIFA this year. I'm surprised it took Konami this long to release a competent football game. This is coming from someone who has hated the PES series this generation.

I'm honestly having no problems with the shooting power. Scored a cracker with Nani. Played a couple more games and certainly enjoying it more as I get more of a feel for it.
Superstar difficult isn't all that difficult strangely and i'm having no problems beating Spain with smaller teams. Feel like if you defend well the AI can't just score a cheap scripted goal past you what is good I suppose.

the goalkeepers are good. everything else is bad. way to go konami. I've not heard anyone yet from my friends who likes the demo and we all play pes for years. in fact I've never been disapointed by any pes offering until this pile of crap.

Scoring goals is pretty easy. Shooting outside the box is difficult :p

Nonetheless, PES 14 feels superb. I just hope online is up to scratch. I personally don't like playing games against the computer (and to be honest, I tend to suck).

Playing against others is more fun. At the default demo difficulty though, I steamroll teams 4-0.

Yes, Online is where it's at. Master League Online specifically.
Hope it's more like 2011 MLO because the last two years have been a bit shit. With 11v11 now in the game online apparently, surely they must have made improvements.
I doubt it will be in but would be great if they let you quit early online like they do in FIFA if you are having lag.

I agree, I'm waiting to hear about how good the online game modes are this year, and whether they've sorted the servers out. Get that sorted and it's a must buy. I also am not a big fan of playing against the computer, mainly because they tend to score the same type of goals a lot of the time, which can make it tedious.

You start of with PES defaults and earn money by winning matches and then that money go's towards purchasing players whilst trying to climb the divisions.

I went back and played the FIFA demo again after playing this. IMO, Pes beats Fifa hands down this year. Fifa feels just awkward to play compared to this. This feels so much more fluid, smooth and more responsive. Passing feels sluggish in Fifa and the ball feels strange and overly heavy. The new physics engine is much better than Fifa. The ball control and first touch in this are way more realistic, they always were anyway. People even complain about Fifa's, which are not even as severe as Pes'. What Fifa has, just isn't done as good or realistically.

One major problem with Fifa for me is the ball control physics of how quickly attackers can turn on the ball. Completely unrealistic and far too quick. I wouldn't mind that but you can't even change direction with the defender in as quick of a reaction time. It makes defending a nightmare as the attacker has quicker reactions times on changing directions than the defenders, even though he has the ball to keep control of? Also, to back up my point. How many times can you successfully slide tackle an attacker in Fifa during a game? Very rarely is the answer. 9/10 you'll completely miss the ball and won't get near it. Its practically redundant and its not really part of my defensive tactics in Fifa which is ridiculous. They turn away from you so quickly its stupid and unrealistic. Now compare that with Pes. The sliding tackle is a far more viable option and you have many opportunities to use it in a match successfully, which is realistic due the physics not allowing attackers to defy gravity.

The dribbling in this game is superb. So much variety in speeds that are all relevant in different situations. I love the "baby-step dribbling", exactly what you need to get close as possible to defenders so you have a chance of out reacting them with a quick burst of pace. It's far more rewarding and complete than Fifa is, for me. Although, Fifa's dribbling is good except for the gravity defying turns on the ball.

Overall, Pes is the superior game now, IMO. Certainly in the most important elements and by a very noticeable margin, albeit, not quite by a country mile but nearly.
